During our cruise we learned that Viking provides top quality tours at every port of call included in the price of the cruise. While there are several extra tours available at very reasonable cost, those tours included provide a thoroughly wonderful and educational experience. Furthermore, the onboard Lounge entertainment and activities in the evening and during the day were varied of uniformly high quality. We were treated to authentic local dancers, singers and musicans as well as our regular excellent pianist. The captain, hotel manager and program director see to it that an upbeat atmosphere obtains at all times and guest are never bored! With only 140 guests one quickly makes new friends and that adds to the pleasure of the voyage.

Review Of Viking Cruises
Due to the Coronavirus crisis, Viking Cruises suspended passenger shipping operations fleetwide by canceling all voyages with pre-scheduled departures in the period March 12, 2020, through July 2021. Fleetwide operations were planned to resume on October 1, 2020. However, due to ongoing travel restrictions in Europe and the USA, as well as Canada’s and Australia’s ban on cruise shipping, Viking canceled the entire 2020 program in mid-August.
- VIKING OCEAN restarted operations on May 22, 2021, with Viking Venus .
- VIKING RIVER restarted in July 2021 , VIKING’s Egypt boats – in August.
- In March-April 2021, Viking OCEAN announced plans to restart operations with Viking Venus , Viking Orion and Viking Sky . All these voyages were open for booking to UK residents only. In May were added July-October departures for the ships Viking Sea and Viking Venus.
All affected bookings received a 125% refund in FCC with rebooking or 100% monetary refund. Fully refunded were also all prepurchased through Viking packages and services. The FCC is valid for 24 months , for any Viking cruise itinerary and fully transferable. All bookings made by April 30, 2020, received Risk-Free Guarantee that allows penalty-free cruise cancellation up to 24 hours prior departure.
You Need To Think About What All

If youve cruised before, you know that Viking cruises arewell, expensive. You can expect to pay several thousand dollars for your trip , which seems costly compared to the $500-600 rates youd find from other cruise companies.
However, once youve paid, you dont need to spend much more. Your fare includes a shore excursion in each port of call , onboard meals with beer and wine, Wi-Fi access, self-service laundry, spa access, and 24-hour room service.
Viking estimates that their amenities are worth about $200, per guest, per day. To get that value, youll have to use as many of the onboard services as possible, but it beats constantly taking out your wallet for things like internet access and port fees.

Saga Cruises
- Saga has two ships. Spirit of Discovery and a sister Spirit of Adventure.
- Saga PLC is based in Folkestone, Kent, and offers services other than shipping, mainly in the financial sector.

Alternative Restaurants Are Included On Viking Cruises
Viking doesnt have any restaurants where you have to pay extra. Once you are onboard its actually pretty hard to spend money because so much stuff is included. They do have restaurants which are alternative which definitely would be speciality on other cruise lines. The food on Viking was absolutely amazing. I cannot fault a single thing with the food at any point. I think Ill have to write a full review about the food!

The Minibar Is Included On Viking Cruises
For the first time in my life, I HAVE EATEN FROM THE CRUISE SHIP MINI BAR! I would normally never consider paying for the items in the mini bar, instead viewing the mini bar as just a fridge. Onboard Viking the mini bar is included. How often it is replenished depends on your cabin grade. The standard balcony cabin is only filled at the start of your cruise but the other categories are filled whenever they are empty. That said my mini bar did keep filling itself up.

If youre planning on drinking regularly no judgments here, were talking about a vacation there are a couple of ways to keep your budget in check.
The most obvious: Pay for the Silver Spirits beverage package, which offers unlimited beers, cocktails, premium wines, juices, espresso drinks, and mineral water for the entire cruise. Prices vary depending on the length of the cruise, but for around $19.95 per night per guest, youll never have to worry about what youre spending.
Is that worth it? If youre planning on drinking several glasses of wine per night , its certainly a decent purchase. If that doesnt sound like a great value , theres another option.
You can also buy local wine and bring it onboard, a Viking Cruises representative tells TravelAwaits via email. Each stateroom on Viking Longships and Vikings ocean ships have a refrigerator, and a corkscrew is also available onboard.
As with all other aspects of your cruise, the trick is to plan ahead. Make a list of planned expenditures, then do the math to see whether you can justify the Silver Spirits package. If not, you can always grab a few bottles of the good stuff during a shore excursion.
Ocean Cruise Ship Itineraries
Vikings basic ocean cruises range from 8 to 15 days, with destinations to Scandinavia and the Baltic; the western and eastern Mediterranean; the British Isles; and North America and the Caribbean, as well as combination cruises of those itineraries available ranging from 22 to 50 days. A new ship, the Viking Sun, will spend her maiden season sailing the companys first-ever world cruise, spanning 141 days and visiting five continents and 35 countries, starting in January 2018. Room Service Is Included On Viking Cruises
I am used to cruising on cruise lines where they have room service but it is often a very small menu or you have to pay for it. Some cruise lines offer free breakfast room service but very few have a menu as big as Vikings. Onboard Viking you can get a 9oz steak delivered to your room for no extra cost! I enjoyed breakfast room service which came promptly at the time I requested. You simply fill out the order form, leave it on your door before 11 pm and then in the morning, your food arrives. Easy peasy! .

If youre in the UK and you book a Viking cruise return flights from the UK will be included. All transfers are also included which means that you dont have to worry about anything! Vikings main market are from the UK although many of the passengers onboard our Norwegian cruise were from the US.

A simple place to start: Mamsens, a chic deli located on every Viking ocean cruise ship.
Located in the Explorers Lounge, Mamsens serves traditional Scandinavian fare inspired by Ragnhild Hagen Viking Chairman Torstein Hagens mother, or Mamsen, as she was known to the family, our source wrote. The deli, named in her honor, serves cuisine inspired by her kitchen, from sweet rolls with cloudberry jam, salmon gravlax, open-faced sandwiches to her heart-shaped waffles served with jam or gjetost and Norwegian brown goat cheese.
Youll also want to check out Manfredis Italian Restaurant and The Chefs Table, the cruise lines premium restaurants. Some suites come with a guaranteed reservation, but if youre grabbing a stateroom, try to visit the restaurants early in your voyage.

Viking River Cruises, founded in 1997, originally began as a river cruise company, with ships traveling along the great rivers of the world, but in 2015 the company launched small ocean-going vessels. Currently, it has about 60 vessels, with cruises offered in Europe, China, Southeast Asia and Egypt. Regardless of whether you choose a river or ocean cruise, Viking prides itself on offering an intimate experience with a hotel-like atmosphere and all-inclusive pricing.
My daughter and I booked our first Viking cruise in 2016, traveling on the 930-passenger Viking Star on a 10-day trip from Athens, Greece to Venice, Italy with stops in Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro. By the end of the cruise, we had made friends with several people onboard, even choosing to have dinner with them in various ports and making plans to stay in touch afterwards.
Are Viking River Cruises All Inclusive
As good as the river cruising markets biggest Viking river cruises are, they are not an all-inclusive river cruise company. Viking river cruises are NOT all inclusive.
It gives us the ability to be able to compare them versus the all inclusive operators. Viking river cruises do not include gratuities or tipping of any kind. They do not include all your excursions although you will get daily excursions included. They do not include drinks outside meals.

Viking Mississippi River Cruises
The company plans to add cruise ships on Mississippi River . However, the process is slowed due to issues regarding the so-called “Jones Act” . It imposes restrictions on where USA-based ships can navigate and how to be staffed.
Company’s plan to enter the US river cruising market was officially announced in 2015. In October 2018 was announced as a potential start-up the year 2021. By 2027, Viking plans to increase river’s annual passenger shipping capacity to over 100,000 by deploying six Viking riverboats. The 7-day cruise itineraries will include roundtrips from New Orleans, as well as one-ways between New Orleans and Memphis TN, and between St Louis MO and Minneapolis-Saint Paul MN.
Viking’s USA-based riverboats will be newbuilds , each with 5 decks, passenger capacity 386, all-balcony staterooms , an aft-located infinity pool, bow ramp . All the 6 ships will be built and owned by ECO Shipyards and operated under charter by Viking Cruises USA.
The first boat starts operations in August 2022. Bookings opened in 2020 – on March 31 and on April 15 . Currently, Viking River Cruises USA offers 4 itineraries, themed as:
