The more than 2,600-stateroom ship is made up of six zones, with festive touches and nods to its history incorporated throughout. Guests enter through the atrium in Celebration Central, with a ceiling designed to mimic a confetti cannon, courtesy of roughly 1,400 colorful light fixtures.
The zone is also home to Aquaria Bar, which features a wall spanning two decks behind the bar that incorporates glass murals by the Italian artist Luciano Vistosi from Carnival Victory, which launched in 1998, and is now Carnival Radiance.
Bar and lounge The Golden Jubilee, located in The Gateway zone, features decor from previous Carnival vessels, including a nickel, mahogany and etched glass partition wall from its first ship, TSS Mardi Gras, and night club doors from TSS Carnivale, which sailed for the line from the 1970s to the 1990s.
The nearby promenade also features coins for each Carnival ship built into the floor design and a porthole gallery of interactive dioramas depicting various periods in the line’s history, as well as “coming attractions,” Aprile said.

Cabins Anywhere Close To The Bow
Anchor noise issues aside, the big reason you might want to steer clear of the front of a ship is that youll likely feel the motion of the waves more distinctly. The front of a ship can be the most uncomfortable place to be in big waves.
This is because the front of a ship pitches a lot more in waves than the center of a ship or even the back.
Think of the teeter-totter you played on as a kid. Every ship has an equilibrium point around its center that, just like the equilibrium point of a teeter-totter, moves the least as the ship bobs up and down in the waves. The closer to the front that you go, the more you are extending out on the teeter-totter, and the more youll feel the motion.
This is more of an issue on certain ships, and in some parts of the world, than others. If youre on a giant megaship in the relatively calm Caribbean , you might barely feel the movement of the ocean in any cabin, no matter where its located. But if youre on a smaller vessel in rougher seas, it can be an issue.
It also depends a lot on your tolerance for motion. After years of cruising every few weeks, Im used to the waves. The chance of getting seasick generally never factors into my choice of cabin location. That said, if Im booking a cabin on a small vessel on an itinerary thatll include passage through an area known for rough seas, such as the Drake Passage between South America and Antarctica, even I will push for something closer to a ships equilibrium point.
Cabin Locations On Cruise Ships You Should Definitely Avoid
I still can remember the worst cruise ship cabin I ever had.
It was on a Carnival Cruise Line ship I cant remember which one and it was right in the middle of what I have come to call the “Bermuda Triangle of Bad Cabins” on Carnival ships.
This is the area on those ships around the aft elevator bank on the cabin deck that sits just above the main entertainment deck. If youre in a cabin in this area, particularly one on the starboard side, you are dealing with not only the noise of the Carnival rowdies emerging from the elevators late into the night but also on many vessels the sounds of the piano bar and nightclub emanating up the stairway from right below you.

It isnt much better in the cabins around the forward elevator bank and stairway on the same deck, which on many Carnival ships are right above the bustling central atrium and adjacent casino. Thats not exactly a quiet area.
Is it obvious I go to bed early?
Picking the perfect cabin location on a cruise ship can be a subjective exercise. Some people want to be on a high deck for the views. Others want to be on a low deck for stability. Some want to be near the kids clubs or the spa or some other venue they know theyll visit often. Some really couldnt care less. Instead, theyll book guarantee cabins, which is where you tell the cruise line to just pick any old cabin for you, as long as you get a deal.

Guy’s Burger Joint is Carnival’s signature burger bar by the US celebrity Guy Fieri . The bar is complimentary and open for lunch and dinner . The menu includes specialty burgers , also made-to-order burgers, hand-cut fries, condiment bar. The ingredients include 80-20 beef patties, buttered buns, melted cheese, mushrooms, lettuce, onions, pickles, tomato, Donkey Sauce , crispy bacon patty, spicy onion rings, chili, BBQ sauce.
RedFrog Tiki Bar is a South Pacific Island-themed, 2-level bar designed as a variation of Carnival’s poolside RedFrog Bar. With significantly more real estate than the other Fun Ships — the Carnival Mardi Gras size is 35 percent larger than the class of ships before it — the line has made sure that all the old favorites are onboard and bigger than ever, and also made room for features that are bound to impress.
The first one on everyone’s list is the Carnival Mardi Gras roller coaster Bolt, the first roller coaster at sea — a genuine thrill ride you need to try at least once. And then there’s the Atrium, located on the side of the ship instead of the center, a placement that allows the space to have three-story sea views during the day and become a top-notch entertainment space at night.
Mardi Gras is also the first Carnival ship to be divided into “neighborhoods” — six to be exact. While it’s by no means the first cruise ship to have themed sections — Royal Caribbean pioneered this with Oasis of the Seas way back in 2008 — the neighborhoods break the megaship up into segments that are easy to navigate and enjoy.
Cocktail-lovers will flock to the New Orleans-themed French Quarter, which has two of the best new bars we’ve seen on a ship in years: The Brass Magnolia, which has a dark lounge with live music and a lofty botanical bar complete with mixologists and the Fortune Teller Bar, which has a kooky, spooky velvet lounge feel. By contrast, the Patio at Summer Landing area goes for an outdoor BBQ vibe with games like cornhole.
Carnival Mardi Gras Restaurants Are Stellar But Venues Could Be Bigger
One downside to the Carnival Mardi Gras cruise ship is that while there are lots of venues, some are too small to handle a rush. The traditional theater can only seat 900 at a time, and both the popular Piano Bar and Punchliner Comedy Club are laughably small. The fitness center is also overly packed on sea days, while on Elegant Nights, the main dining rooms have long lines as people are drawn by the temptation of free lobster.
Still, the sheer number of different free places to eat is astounding there are so many breakfast and lunch venues, you might never eat in the buffet. Old favorites that used to be overly packed — such as Guy’s Burgers, the RedFrog bar on the Lido Deck and Alchemy Bar — now have plenty of real estate to handle happy crowds.

Cabins Above The Casino
The issue with being near a casino on a ship goes beyond just noise and they definitely can be noisy. Theres the smoke factor, too. On many cruise ships, the casino is the only interior place where smoking is allowed, and it thus draws a steady flow of people lighting up.
This isnt always the case, of course. Some lines Celebrity Cruises and Oceania Cruises, for instance ban smoking in casinos. But plenty of vessels still permit it.
While cruise lines that allow smoking in casinos try to contain it with ventilation systems, theyre not always completely successful. Ive been on plenty of ships where a cloud of smoke wafts out from the casino and up stairwells to nearby cabins.
