The Basics Of The Celebrity Cruises Beverage Packages

There are a few basics that you need to know about the Celebrity Cruises Beverage Packages before weighing the value of the Premium package. We wont go into too much detail as the linked post above gives you some of the general facts of the program.

For starters, all beverage packages are priced as a per day flat fee charge. When electing to purchase the package, you have to pay for every day of the cruise.

The good thing about Celebrity Cruises is that the beverage package works at all bars and lounges on the ship. It is also honored in the complimentary dining venues, like the main dining room, the Oceanview Cafe, and Cafe al Bacio, as well as the specialty dining venues, like Tuscan Grill, Qsine, and Murano.

Currently, the Celebrity Cruises Premium Beverage Package is priced at $69 a day, plus the 18% service charge, totaling $81.45 a day per person. Therefore, on a typical seven-night cruise, it would be a total cost of $569.94 a person.

When getting the beverage package, each adult in the room is required to get one. As you would expect, there is no sharing of the package and you are not allowed to use your package to order drinks for other cruisers.

The drink package does entitle you to an unlimited number of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages each day. Of course, the bar servers can refuse to serve you if you are obviously intoxicated or acting inappropriately.

Celebrity Cruises Premium Beverage Package

Passengers can upgrade to the Premium Beverage package which includes higher-priced drinks.

This package includes all beers, cocktails, top-shelf liquor, and wines by the glass up to $15 per drink. Further, the premium package includes unlimited premium still and sparkling bottled water, Red Bull, Vitamin Water, soda, juices, and premium coffees and teas.

The premium package covers most of the drinks offered at the onboard bars and restaurants, with the exception of Eden.

Additionally, the premium package covers martinis from the Crush Martini Bar and most of the handcrafted drinks found at the World Class Bar.

With the premium package, you also get a 20% discount on bottles of wine.

The normal price for the package is $69 per person per day. But, when you receive the Classic package as part of the Always Included fare, you can upgrade to the premium package for only $12 per person per day.

If you want a truly all-inclusive experience on your Celebrity cruise, the premium drinks package is your best option.

Is Your Cruise Port

Another important factor to consider when deciding if upgrading or purchasing one of Celebrity Cruise drink packages is worth your money depends on your cruise itinerary. Being ashore more often means you wont have as many opportunities to utilize your drink package.

If you will be spending most of your day exploring the port, then you might find it difficult to take full advantage of your drink package because you are not onboard the ship as much. When you’re spending a lot of time in port, you can even enjoy drinks ashore for a fraction of the cost that you’d find onboard. This could be a good option if youre looking to drink without breaking the budget.

On the other hand, if your Celebrity cruise is filled with a lot of sea days, you will have more time onboard to utilize your drink package during the cruise.

Consider how much time youll actually be spending onboard versus in port to see if you can make the drink package worthwhile.

Are The Celebrity Cruises Packages Worth The Money

If you look at the menus below you will be able to work out if the packages are good value for you.

As a rough example

  • Wine $9 a glass x 3 with dinner = $27
  • Soft drinks $3 a glass x3 = $9
  • Bottle of water $3 x 4 = $12
  • cocktails x2 = $18
  • Speciality coffee $6 x3 = $18

A grand total of $84.00 and thats working on the classic drinks package prices. When we have this conversation with people they always rank the drink package value against the amount of alcoholic drinks they drink. However it makes sense to also factor in speciality coffees, soft drinks and water if you intend to drink those too.

Celebrity Cruises Drinks Package Guide: Classic Package

Celebrity Cruise Drink Packages: Everything You Need to Know

Last summer I was lucky enough to sail on the Celebrity Summit from Cape Liberty, New Jersey to Newport, Boston and Bermuda. It was an incredible trip and one of our very best cruise experiences. There was a lot to LOVE about Celebrity Cruises, and a big part was definitely the Classic Beverage Package perk.

There are so many things that Celebrity does really well, that just make a cruise a little more special. Not the least of which is the Go Big, Go Better, and Go Best perks promotion, which has been available for the last couple of years. I will let you know, in detail, what is included in the Classic Beverage Package, and what is not.

Do You Need A Premium Beverage Package For Coffee

If your coffee intake is largely limited to espresso-based drinks like cappuccinos without too many fancy add-ins, a classic beverage package should be more than sufficient if you dont want to pay-as-you-go.

If you like fancy coffee concoctions, but dont care for added alcohol, the premium non-alcoholic beverage package might make senseespecially if you also plan to partake in the smoothies and premium bottled water included with the package.

And if you enjoy alcohol, and consuming it with alcohol, the premium alcoholic beverage package is worth further investigation.

The Perks Were Never Free

It should be noted that while Celebrity ads and promotions have offered 1, 2, 3 or 4 FREE perks for a long time, these perks were never free. A simple search for the same cabin on the same cruise without any perk versus with perks, would always show the same cabin without any perks was always lower than that same cabin with perks. Staterooms with Free Perks were always offered at a higher fare price but did offer guests good savings versus paying for the perks separably . The perks offer a value savings, they just werent free.

Our Quick Analysis Of The Celebrity Cruises Beverage Packages

Regardless of how much we consume, we do like having a beverage package for the added convenience. Further, you never have to worry about the bar tab at the end of the cruise! Of course, a beverage package is an added perk when its free.

If we look at our breakdown from a recent cruise, the answer for us is yes. We tracked all beverages consumed, per day, per drink category, to determine the value of getting the drink package.

On a 7-night Celebrity cruise, we consumed a total of 141 drinks for a bar tab of $1,101. This number includes an average of around 5 alcoholic drinks per person, per day, as well as specialty coffee and bottled water. To purchase the Premium package for two adults would have cost us $966. So, we saved $135, or roughly 12%.

However, if we had only paid a $12 per day upgrade fee , we would have recognized more value as we tend to drink cocktails that are priced over the $9 Classic beverage package allotment. Your choice to upgrade should be based on your drink preferences.

    Classic Beverage Package

Guests may only purchase this beverage upgrade after final payment. This can be done online via the Cruise Planner or once onboard the ship.

The Premium Beverage Package includes all beers, wines, cocktails, and specialty top shelf liquor priced at $15 or less. At most bars onboard, you will be hard-pressed to find a drink that is not covered in this package .

Running The Numbers On The Celebrity Cruises Premium Beverage Package

With the breakdown above, we were a few dollars below the per-day charge of $69.

Over the past couple of years, we have sailed on two Celebrity Cruises with the Premium Beverage package. On our first seven-night cruise, we consumed a total of 141 drinks for a bar tab of $1,101. To purchase the package for two adults would have been $966. So, we saved $135, or roughly 12%.

On our second ten-night cruise, we ran up a total $1,265 after consuming 154 drinks. For this trip, purchasing the package would have run us $1,380. So, based on these calculations, we actually lost $115 if we would have purchased the package.

However, we did not pay for the drink package on either trip!

When it comes to different drink packages on Celebrity Cruises, cruisers can select from a number of alcoholic and non-alcoholic options.

For starters, all beverage packages are priced as per person, per day. When electing to purchase the package, you have to pay for the entire length of the cruise you can not purchase just select days.

When getting a beverage package, each adult in the room is NOT required to get one, unlike other cruise lines. As you would expect though, there is no sharing of the package or using your package to order drinks for other cruisers.

You can purchase a drink package online pre-cruise or once onboard during the first day of your cruise. You will usually save money by purchasing pre-cruise.

The stated prices do not include the additional 20% service charge which is added when purchasing the package. Additionally, applicable state and local taxes may be applied to purchases made during certain ports and/or itineraries.

These packages are accepted almost everywhere on the ship. This includes the bars and lounges, complimentary dining venues, and the specialty restaurants. However, room service and minibar are not included. If stopping at one of Royal Caribbeans private islands, you may also use your beverage package while ashore in CocoCay or Labadee.

Beverage packages are available on most 2+ day sailings except for 2- or 3-day sailings from Southampton, England. Additionally, beverage packages are not available on cruises in the Galapagos.
