Domestic Roaming With At& t

If you are an AT& T unlimited customer, and you are traveling domestically, or in Mexico or Canada, you will not need to pay any additional roaming charges.

Your phone will still work, and you will not rack up costs on your trip.

So for domestic traveling, you will be charged as usual when using your phone as long as you stay in North America.

However, if you are planning to travel elsewhere and take an international trip, then you will have to plan out how you will be using your phone a bit differently.

How Do You Send Texts Picture Or Video Messages To The Us

While traveling abroad, it is quite easy to send texts, pictures, or video messages back to the United States.

You can enter +, then 1, then the area code and phone number you want to contact.

If you cannot find the + sign, remember you can access that on most phones by holding down the 0 key.

If you are sending a text message or calling another country, dial +, then enter the country code and local number to connect.

Several Cruise Lines Are Continuing To Ease Pandemic

Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, and Carnival cruise lines are easing their pandemic-era protocol by allowing unvaccinated travelers on more sailings, as well as accepting at-home COVID-19 tests for boarding.

Starting Sept. 5, Royal Caribbean will welcome both vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers of all ages, according to the cruise line. Vaccinated travelers will be exempt from testing on cruises that are shorter than 10 nights, while unvaccinated travelers 5 and older will have to show proof of a negative test taken within three days of embarking on a sailing.

Finally!!! All Guests, All Aboard, Royal Caribbeans President and CEO Michael Bayley . Were making it easier for more guests to sail with Royal Caribbean. Unvaccinated travelers can join us for almost all U.S. sailings.

Royal Caribbean will accept a variety of tests as proof to board, including simply taking a photo of a self-administered home test, a new rule that Bayley also noted on social media.

Currently, Royal Caribbean requires travelers 12 and older to be vaccinated on U.S. cruises. The new protocols will not apply to cruises that visit Bermuda or Canada where testing and vaccine rules will still apply.

The change comes just over a week after Royal Caribbean first eased vaccine requirements for cruises departing from Los Angeles, Galveston, New Orleans, and any European homeport as well as weeks after Royal Caribbean eliminated testing for vaccinated passengers on shorter sailings.

Can I Get The Shot The Day Before I Sail Or Just One Dose

No. Cruise lines make it clear that passengers must be fully vaccinated. That means having both doses of a two-dose shot 14 days before embarking on the ship. A single shot of the Johnson & Johnson dose is ok, but still requires receiving it well in advance of sailing.

In other words, this is not something you want to put off until the last minute.

How Do I Cancel The At& T International Day Pass

You do not need to cancel the pass whenever you arrive back home. You can simply leave it on your device so that the next time you travel abroad it will be active. However, if you would like to cancel the plan you can do that by going online or by calling into the following AT& T phone number: 800.335.4685. Once removed, pay-per-use rates will apply, unless another international travel option is added to your device.

Do Cellphones Work On Cruise Ships

Yes, you can make calls, text, and even video chat from a cruise ship. In port, you can connect to local roaming networks. At sea, you can either make calls via a satellite connection or pay for the ships Wi-Fi and make Wi-Fi calls, text or video chat via the internet.

Bandwidth and connection speed can be an issue at sea. You may experience lag time on calls or slow connection speeds. Depending on where your ship is in the world and whether anything is blocking the connection to the satellite, your phone may not work temporarily for calls or Wi-Fi access.

Any part of your phone that does not require a network will function as normal on board.

How Do I Prove That Im Vaccinated If Its Required

In many cases even though passengers can now sail without the shot, proof is still needed if you are vaccinated. Thats because passengers with the vaccine often dont need to test before sailing, while those without it still need to test negative before sailing.

The easiest way to show youve been vaccinated is to hang on to the white CDC vaccination card you should have received when you got the shot. We suggest keeping the original in a safe place and also making a copy so that you can always have a version should something happen to the original.

Some cruise lines will accept a digital record of your dose or an image of your shot card. To be sure, however, all cruise lines will accept the paper card, making it the easiest way to prove youve had the vaccine.

International Calling For All At& t Customers

AT& T also offers another international calling option for all of its customers.

You can select a $5 Global Add-on plan and get 250 minutes of calling per month to landlines in 63 destinations.

  • These add-on monthly plans last 30 days. You can also use add-ons weekly and have them for seven days as long as your account balance did not expire.
  • If you purchase or renew the international calling add-on, your rate plan must be active when you buy or renew the add-on.
  • Also, add-on balances will continue to roll over if you renew them before the add-on deadline on your plan.
  • That means if you did not use your full 250 minutes that month, the unused minutes would still be available next month as long as you keep the account active and you activate the add-on before it expires.
  • Add-on rollovers are limited to specific destinations only. Add-ons on the East Asia/India, Latin America/Caribbean, and the Dominican Republic are not eligible to rollover.

What Are The Best Ways To Use My Cellphone On A Cruise

There are plenty of ways to use your phone on board without incurring unwanted charges and fees.

Depending on your cruise lines app, your smartphone might have the ability to unlock your cabin door, help you make dinner reservations, or even order a burger and cocktail to be delivered to you poolside. Just as weve seen landside, cruise ships have begun to use QR codes to replace physical bar and restaurant menus.

Smartphones make great cameras for capturing the many fun moments on board and in port. Consider a waterproof case or a plastic waterproof pouch to have the freedom and fun of bringing your phone with you in the ships pool and to the beaches at port.

Use your phone as an alarm clock to make sure youre up at the right time for excursions, pool parties and dinner reservations.

Prior to boarding, always download media via your fast and cheaper home internet so you will have free entertainment at the ready on your vacation.

But remember, your cellphone wont be useful to you if you run out of battery life. Double-check that you have packed the right chargers and outlet plugs, especially for accessories like Bluetooth earphones.

Consider bringing a travel power strip if your cabins electronic devices will all need to be charged overnight at the same time. Power brick chargers are essential for topping up power anywhere else on the ship or exploring a port.

At& t International Day Pass Vs At& t Passport

In the past, AT& T offered a second option for international travelers as well: The AT& T Passport. This was a separate plan that granted the user unlimited texts, 2GB or 6GB of data, and $0.35 per minute for calls. At its height, the AT& T Passport was available in more than 200 countries and priced at $70 per month per device for 2GB of data or $140 per month per device for the 6GB plan. However, the AT& T Passport was retired on August 12, 2022. As such, while existing monthly subscribers still have access to the service, no new subscriptions are being accepted.

Cruise Internet Costs Have Gone Down

Just a few years back, you had to pay a small fortune for the privilege of accessing the internet on a cruise ship. The base rate for onboard Wi-Fi for years started around 75 cents a minute. Thats $45 for a single hour online!

The old pay-by-the-minute system, which could leave even modest internet users with sky-high bills, is now giving way to simpler and more affordable all you can browse plans on many lines. How much does Wi-Fi cost on a cruise today? Well, the highest-speed version of Royal Caribbeans Voom connection currently costs $24.99 per day for one device. In the old days of 75 cents-a-minute pricing, that same amount of money would have gotten you just 33 minutes of web time.

Royal Caribbean also offers a slower-speed version of Voom that cant support streaming for $19.99 per day for one device. For both cruise internet packages, there are discounts for adding more devices and purchasing a package online before your sailing.

Another line bringing down internet costs dramatically is Carnival. At the very low end, it now offers a Social Wi-Fi plan that allows access to all the key social sites as well as messaging services such as WhatsApp, for just $8 a day. A slightly more expensive Value Wi-Fi plan, at $12 per day, adds access to email and most websites.

Managing An Outbreak On Board

If an outbreak of COVID-19 occurs on your cruise, you could be subject to quarantine procedures on the ship, or cruise operators may require you to disembark and follow the local rules in the state or country you are in.

The Australian Governments ability to provide consular services or support on board an international cruise ship is likely to be limited.

If travelling on an international cruise, Australians should be aware that medical standards in other countries may differ from Australia. Talk to your cruise operator about medical facilities and costs on board. Learn more about preventing infectious diseases.

Follow the cruise operators protocols for managing outbreaks and COVID-19 cases and close contacts on board.

Can I Use My Phone In Port

Once youve arrived in port, be wary of international roaming charges that might differ from your at-sea rates and change by country. Check your providers international plans and rates for each port you plan to visit on your itinerary.

Consider opting for an international SIM card that can keep you connected while in foreign countries and help with budgeting and allotting usage. International SIM cards offer the benefit of choice and variety, with an open market of plans that fit your budget and usage needs. Youll be using a different phone number with that new SIM card, but youll still be able to access your web-based apps, email, and internet messaging like WhatsApp and Apples iMessage.

Pro tip: Pack a paper clip to easily eject and swap out SIM cards.

What If I Accidentally Use Roaming Services While On Board

Its up to you to make sure your phone settings are adjusted to keep you from roaming at sea. Expect an alert via SMS text that youre headed into roaming territory, but beyond that, service providers wont necessarily notify you of overages and fees youll just be surprised with a large charge on your next bill.

Keep a watchful eye on your airplane mode setting, ensuring its always on when youre on board your cruise ship. If you forget, you wont be charged for incoming calls you dont accept, but some service providers will charge for unread text messages that arrive while your phone is roaming.

Use the ships Wi-Fi to monitor usage on your service providers app. If something seems off, contact the service providers customer service.
