Held in the Studio B rink, the ice-skating shows can’t be missed. But because they’re in high demand and tickets are first come, first served, you should get them early. Royal Caribbean’s daily newsletter will inform you when tickets can be picked up on your cruise, but we recommend keeping an eye on the booth — located in the Royal Promenade — the first day. Sometimes it opens early. Once it does, passengers can form a massive line in seconds.

We reserved a 4 night trip to Nassau and Coco Cay out of Port Canaveral at the last minute and got a guaranteed suite room. We’ve never not picked our own room so I was nervous but we ended up on Level 7 Aft Room 7712 overlooking the wake. It was an awesome room and our room attendant was great. The ship itself is big and has a lot to do for adults and families. We went with friends and family so the ports weren’t really relevant although we rented a cabana on Coco Cay and had a fantastic day. We’re experienced cruisers and mainly go for the ship and sail. This one doesn’t disappoint! Food wasn’t as good in the specialty dining as prior to COVID. The selections have been paired down and honestly are barely different between Chops and Giovanni’s. Next time we’ll definitely try the Japanese Hibachi restaurant as we heard it was fantastic.

The Royal Caribbean Independence Of The Seas Deck Plan Is Easy To Navigate

Quite a few things were moved or added during the 2018 makeover of the Independence of the Seas, and its deck plan has changed significantly. Installing new bars and restaurants, as well as the entertainment facilities on the outer decks, is a huge project, yet all of it fits seamlessly into the ship, almost as if it’s always been there.

With that said, Royal Caribbeans Independence of the Seas is still over a decade old, and some of the cabins and bathrooms are looking their age in terms of decor and in-cabin fixtures and fittings. The ships atrium is also somewhat less impressive than those in the larger Royal Caribbean cruise liners.

While Independence of the Seas is a large cruise ship with a maximum capacity of 4,515 guests, its deck plan is well laid out. Cabins are spread over multiple decks, but bars, restaurants, pools and entertainment venues are almost all on decks 5 and 11 to 15. This keeps most public areas within a quick elevator ride or a couple flights of stairs away — a good thing as there are only two elevator banks on the ship.

With similar itineraries and offerings, many passengers struggle to decide between Independence of the Seas and Mariner of the Seas. Theyre both almost the same size and were refurbished in 2018. Independence of the Seas has two more restaurants and more kid-friendly activities than Mariner. Independence, however, lacks a Starbucks.

Tip : Soothe Your Muscles In A Cantilevered Hot Tub

There are six hot tubs on Independence of the Seas, and two of them offer some of the best views on the ship. Even better: No kids are allowed. Tucked away in the Solarium, an adults-only pool area with a bar, the hot tubs are cantilevered off the port and starboard sides so it feels like you’re floating over the ocean. As relaxing as it sounds, don’t expect the hot tubs to be empty. The Solarium tends to get crowded on sea days. If you want to enjoy some quiet time in the hot tub, go on a port day or at sailaway.

Tip : Don’t Wear A Hat When Playing Mini

Between the rock-climbing wall, surf simulator and pool contests, you can easily get tuckered out onboard Independence of the Seas. If you’re in the mood for a slower-paced outdoor activity, head to Deck 13 for a nine- or 18-hole round of mini-golf — but leave your hat in the cabin. The upper deck gets windy, especially on sea days. With that in mind, it might not be a good idea to wear a dress or skirt, either.
