Covid Testing Near Port Canaveral

Royal Caribbean requires everyone, regardless of vaccination status, to get a covid test before their cruise.

You’ll need to show your negative covid test for everyone in your group when you arrive at the cruise terminal.

Ideally, you should get a covid test done before your get to the port and likely closer to your home. Most local pharmacy chains offer covid tests at various costs.

I recommend anyone that is vaccinated to take the Abbott BinaxNow COVID-19 Ag Card Test at-home covid test. It’s convenient and easy to use, with no scheduling of appointments required.

Vaccinated guests that have exhausted every option in trying to secure a pre-cruise test, can secure an antigen test performed by mobile providers outside the cruise terminal in Port Canaveral. Keep in mind that Royal Caribbean warns there are extremely limited appointments at the cruise terminal, which need to be scheduled. Pricing for this option starts at $99 USD, per person.

Port Canaveral Remains Update

Although tropical storm Nicole has passed Port Canaveral, the port remained closed until November 11 for all waterside and vessel shoreside operations. The port is open for any landside operations, which means businesses are allowed to return to the port to evaluate their premises and resume operations when safe.

Tide gauges in Port Canaveral hit the major flood stage during Hurricane Nicole before falling back to normal levels after the storm surge subsided. No significant damage has been reported at the port.

Port Canaveral released a statement that said:Port Canaveral has conducted initial safety assessments of the Port following the passage of Hurricane Nicole. An All Clear has been issued for surrounding roadways. For landside operations, the Port is now OPEN.

The port remained closed for all ship traffic because the ports management and the US Coast Guard need to conduct surveys on the main channel and complete evaluations of vessel restrictions.

In the surrounding area, Jetty Park, a popular spot for watching cruise ships entering the port, the boat ramps at Rodney Ketcham Park, Freddie Patrick Park, and Canaveral Lock all remain closed until further notice.

The expectation yesterday was that the port would be able to reopen today, and that now seems to be the case after important surveys.

What Royal Caribbean Gives Back

Royal Caribbean welcomes first Port Canaveral passengers since cruise shutdown

While Miami-Dade will finance the bulk of the remaining project costs, the cruise line is heavily committed to serving the region.

While Terminal G is being reconstructed, Royal Caribbean has committed to a minimum annual guarantee from 600,000 to 1.5 million passengers per year, depending on the level of completion of the facility.

With the cruise lines upcoming new mega-ship, Icon of the Seas, planned to be homeported from Miami when she debuts in 2024, this should be a reasonable goal to not only meet, but to exceed in the years to come.

Icon of the Seas is expected to host as many as 7,600 guests per cruise if fully booked, more than any other cruise ship in the world. Terminal G is expected to be substantially completed within five years, by 2027.

After that point, the cruise line guarantees at least 2.1 million passengers annually, which is in addition to the 1.55 million Royal Caribbean passengers that move through PortMiamis Terminal A each year.

The cruise terminal usage agreement will represent largest annual minimum passenger commitment between any cruise line and any port worldwide, said Jimmy Morales, Miami-Dade Chief Operations Officer.

In time, the cruise company will repay much of the development costs, as well as pay for essential security equipment and ongoing upgrades through the years for customs and border patrol operations.

Millions of passengers stop by Port Canaveral each year, the cruise port located in Orlando, Florida. Major cruise lines such as Carnival, Disney, Norwegian and Royal Caribbean frequent this port. The port itself also features many family-friendly attractions nearby, making it a good place to extend your trip before or after a cruise.

A must-see is the Kennedy Space Center, an original NASA Launch Operations Center where launch operations for the famous Apollo, Skylab and others were held. The site features educational experiences, dining, an IMAX theater, and shuttle launch simulations. For more interactive fun, stop by the Exploration Tower, which has seven floors of games, exhibits, and an observation deck at the very top.

    New Terminal Agreement Reached

Royal Caribbean announces Florida cruise return dates first sailing out of Port Canaveral set fo…

According to Florida Politics, the new agreement between Royal Caribbean and PortMiami is one of the largest ever development and lease agreements for the port, with an estimated value to the county of $2.8 billion over the course of the agreement, a term of 50 years.

This equates to net revenues that will average $56 million per year, though revenues will be lower in the initial years as the port development is completed, and will increase in years to come with the increased traffic the cruise line will bring to PortMiami.

A key feature of the new agreement is a brand new, dedicated Terminal G for Royal Caribbean International and its sister cruise brands, including Celebrity Cruises, with a lease to last 36 years.

Another part of the agreement extends Royal Caribbeans lease of space for the cruise lines global headquarters, a project that began several years ago but was temporarily halted in May 2020, when Royal Caribbean needed to mitigate financial losses due to the industry-wide shutdown of guest operations.

Prior to the shutdown, the cruise line had already spent $70 million to upgrade its headquarters.

Now, the headquarters lease agreement will be extended through at least 2072, with upfront costs transferred to the county in exchange for favorable commitments from the cruise line to remain based in Miami and increase passenger traffic through the port.
