River Ship Line #: Vantage Deluxe World Cruises
The river cruise branch of tour operator Vantage Deluxe World Travel has several of its own ships, the majority of which sail in Europe. In fact, the vessels were some of the first river ships in Europe to have cabins designated for solo travelers. But in 2020, the company started operations in Egypt on its new m/s Nebu, which also has solo cabins. Providing its clients with even more options, Vantage also charters ships around the world for a variety of itineraries.
Cruise Ship Size Increase Over Time
The trend is clear. The largest cruise ships in the world today measure roughly 8x the size of vessels 40 years ago! Cruise lines proudly boast their biggest and newest ships. Each is guaranteed headlines when breaking the previous record for “biggest ship.”
Look at the chart below. We’ve analyzed nearly 300 ships over the past 50 years. The graph represents average ship size for the included periods.
It’s interesting to look at the average ship length versus tonnage. While new vessels today are nearly 5x the gross tonnage as decades ago, ship length has increased roughly 2x. What does that mean? Ships are getting significantly “beefier.” These massive gains are found in both height and width. Some of the largest ships in the world have 20 total decks and span 167 feet from side to side .

The biggest cruise ship in the world changed in the year 2022 when Royal Caribbean unveiled their Wonder of the Seas, one of their Oasis-class line of cruise ships of which there are five with a sixth one in construction. It measures a stunning 1,188 feet in length. If you Google it, the answer youll get is a slightly outdated Allure of the Seas, a sister ship of the Wonder of the Seas that is about the same length but has a lower gross tonnage.
River Ship Line #: Viking River Cruises
Parent company Viking Cruises has expanded feverishly in recent years, with more than 60 river ships and six ocean vessels in its fleet. Under Viking River Cruises, the company’s riverboats explore familiar waters like the Danube and Rhône in Europe, as well as faraway itineraries on the Volga in Russia, the Nile in Egypt, and the Mekong in Southeast Asia. Small Ship Line #1: Celebrity Cruises
Celebrity’s three expedition vessels are by far the smallest ships in the cruise line’s fleet: Celebrity Xpedition carries 48 passengers, Celebrity Xploration carries just 16, and Celebrity Flora carries 100 passengers. All three sail the Galápagos, with some itineraries including pre- or post-sailing tours to mainland Ecuador and even Peru, where guests can visit Machu Picchu.

Chantiers de l’Atlantique, one of the world’s biggest shipyards, started construction on MSC World Europa in 2019. The ship was fully constructed and delivered to MSC Cruises in October, and it’s scheduled for its maiden voyage around the Middle East in December.
MSC World Europa is slated to be used as a hotel for fans at the Qatar World Cup from November 19 to December 19.
MSC Cruises did not reply to Insider’s requests for comment.

Royal Caribbean Debuts Wonder Of The Seas Worlds Largest Cruise Ship Sets Sail On First Voyage
For the second time in four years, Royal Caribbean debuted the worlds largest cruise ship.
The massive vessel set sail on its first voyage out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Friday.
Royal Caribbeans new Wonder of the Seas ship made its debut on March 4 at Fort Lauderdales Port Everglades where it set sail to the Caribbean and two private island destinations.
According to Business Insider, the 1,188-foot long cruise ship can accommodate nearly 6,990 guests and 2,300 crew across its 18 decks. Prior to the Wonder of the Seas, Royal Caribbean debuted Symphony of the Seas, accommodating 6,680 guests, in 2018.
Wonder of the Seas is Royal Caribbeans fifth Oasis Class cruise ship, boasting impressive amenities dedicated suite class neighborhoods, an elevated Suite Sun Deck and plunge pool, private restaurant, and more.
The ship also features a Central Park neighborhood featuring of live plants, shopping, and restaurants, and more and a Coney Island-inspired Boardwalk neighborhood with a carousel and outdoor theater.
Wonder of the Seas is scheduled for Mediterranean sailing in May 2022.

Actually Warren Buffett failed to beat the S& P 500 Index in 1958, returned only 40.9% and pocketed 8.7 percentage of it as fees. His investors didnt mind that he underperformed the market in 1958 because he beat the market by a large margin in 1957. That year Buffetts hedge fund returned 10.4% and Buffett took only 1.1 percentage points of that as fees. S& P 500 Index lost 10.8% in 1957, so Buffetts investors actually thrilled to beat the market by 20.1 percentage points in 1957.
As you can guess, Warren Buffetts #1 wealth building strategy is to generate high returns in the 20% to 30% range.
So, how did Warren Buffett manage to generate high returns and beat the market?
Mega Ship Line #: Msc Cruises
Though MSC is headquartered in landlocked Switzerland, this cruise line has mastered the art of mega-ships, building five of the 15 largest in the world: MSC Grandiosa, MSC Bellissima, MSC Meraviglia,MSC Virtuosa, and MSC Seashore. Each can hold between 5,300 and 6,300 passengers at maximum capacity. MSC Seashore, a New York Citythemed ship, is the newest of the five, setting sail in November 2021. It’s the longest vessel in the fleet at 1,100 feet, allowing for more than 140,000 square feet of outdoor space, plus 7,500 square feet of dedicated space for kids, including the Pirates Cove Aquapark. MSC has some plans for mega-growth, too: it has four World-class mega-ships in the pipeline, each with a capacity between 5,800 and 6,850 passengers.

Royal Caribbean Wonder Of The Seas
Royal Caribbean’s newest ship, Wonder of the Seas, set sail in March 2022. The largest cruise ship built so far, the 1,188-foot-long, 210-foot-wide Oasis-class vessel weighs in at a whopping 236,857 gross tons and has a maximum cruising speed of 22 knots. Wonder of the Seas can accommodate up to 6,988 guests in 2,867 staterooms and as many as 2,300 crew members.
While you may get lost on this ship, you’ll never be bored. Features include 18 decks and 24 elevators across eight unique neighborhoods including Central Park and the new Suite Neighborhood, an exclusive space for suite guests. There’s also an AquaTheater, an outdoor live entertainment venue with a 30-foot diving platform and incredible ocean views. Wonder Playscape is an underwater-themed outdoor space for kids filled with slides, climbing walls, games and more. And if that’s not enough, enjoy a few of Royal Caribbean’s Oasis-class favorites, such as FlowRider, a simulation surfboard, or laser tag at the Battle for Planet Z. If you dare, head into the Ultimate Abyss the tallest waterslide at sea, it towers 150 feet above sea level and features an exhilarating 13-second ride through 216 feet of dark, winding tunnels.

Medium Ship Line #: Oceania Cruises
Its all about the food on Oceania Cruises. Its 1,250-passenger MS Marina and MS Riviera offer restaurants by Jaques Pepin, a six-course Dom Perignon dinner with a pairing of three vintages, a cooking center where passengers of all cooking skill levels can take classes, and culinary-themed excursions, like a visit to the market in Nice with a chef. Its four smaller Regatta-class ships, each accommodating 684 passengers, also have excellent dining options, like the Polo Grill and the Italian eatery Toscana. Two new 1,200-passenger ships are on the way for Oceania, set for delivery in 2023 and 2025.

Small Ship Line #: Seabourn Cruise Line
Seabourns five ships feature fewer than 300 suites eachbut they leverage that small size into access at some of the worlds most beloved yacht ports: St. Tropez in the south of France the Greek island of Kos and popular large ports like Dubrovnik and Monte Carlo. Michelin-starred chef Thomas Keller designs specialty menus on the ships, and a partnership with UNESCO ensures shore excursions and sustainable tourism practices at some of the wildest and most wonderful destinations around the world. The first luxury line to sail the Galápagos, Quasar Expeditions is best known for its in-depth trips aboard its two intimate ships that carry fewer than 32 passengers each. Yet note the street cred of said ships: One of the two, the Grace, is the former yacht of Princess Grace of Monaco. The other, the Evolution, will allow you to retrace Darwin’s footsteps in the Galápagos. Large Ship Line #: Princess Cruises
Part of the Carnival family, Princess Cruises has a fun claim to famethe TV show The Love Boat was set on its Pacific Princess ship. If youve never seen an episode, youre in luck, as one of the onboard TV channels airs reruns around the clock. But you wont want to stay cooped up in your stateroom when you discover all the activities on board its 14 ships. Its special Seawitch craft beer program sees the cruise line partner with breweries around the world, while Discovery at SEA offers a series of activities based on TV shows from the Discovery, Inc. family of networks, including Animal Planet, the Discovery Channel, and the Science Channel. In 2020, Princess Cruises newest ship, the Enchanted Princess, set sail, and its next ship, Discovery Princess, is scheduled to launch in the spring of 2022.
Medium Ship Line #1: Norwegian Cruise Line
Until it launched Norwegian Epic in 2010, then the Breakaway and Breakaway-plus classes in 2013 and 2015, respectively, Norwegian primarily focused on mid-sized ships that carry around 2,000 passengersand they still make up the majority of the fleet. A colorful atmosphere pervades the ships, as guests enjoy everything from water slides to silly pool contests like synchronized swimming to everyones favorite: bingo night. Norwegians ships have itineraries all over the world, with many focusing on North America.

Activities On The Wonder Of The Seas
In addition to the activities located in the various neighborhoods on the Wonder of the Seas, there are so many other things to do even when you are at sea. These include scheduled activities and events, like Captains Corner , karaoke, trivia, game shows, spa seminars, art auctions, casino activities, and Bingo. A listing of these events, including their location and times, are located in the Royal Caribbean app and the daily Cruise Compass.
Laser Tag is offered at scheduled times in the Studio B venue. That venue, home of the ice show, also hosts open ice skating hours throughout the sailing. Ice skates are available to borrow, so you wont have to worry about packing your own.
There are a number of pools on the main pool deck. All have in-water loungers. On one of our at-sea days, I enjoyed sitting in one of these loungers as I read a book. There are also several hot tubs and ample seating around the pools both with and without shade.
During the day, there is so much entertainment, including live bands, DJs, and a giant movie screen. Looking for a treat? Soft-served ice cream is available at Sprinkles, right near the pools.
Those 16+ who are looking to relax will want to visit the Solarium. This area offers plunge pools, whirlpools, lounge chairs, and a bar in a beautiful covered, climate-controlled area. The Solarium was my favorite place to sit and relax during our sailing on the Wonder of the Seas.

The past decade has seen a massive growth in every sense in cruise ships. Vessels are getting bigger and bigger with mega-ships accommodating nearly 7,000 passengers and 2,300 crew members. As well as carrying more guests, the other reason is that cruise lines provide amazing attractions such as theme parks, race tracks, waterslides and even a rollercoaster, which take up a lot more space than the deck quoits of old. Weve taken a look at 15 of the biggest ships on the water including a couple of unusual ones and their maximum passenger capacity.
