Cruises Vs Las Vegas Casinos

Holland America Cruise Line

Although you may feel like you are stepping into a casino on the Las Vegas strip, casino cruises have many unique features that differ from mainland casinos. First, the minimum bets at games on cruise ships are extremely low. This is a great attraction for a casual, low-stakes gambler and of course encourages more people to play games. Minimum bets range from $1-$5 for table games. There are plenty of penny slots.

Most cruises accept cash, credit cards, or your cruise card in the casino. Almost all of these casinos offer an ATM, but beware as they will have very high transaction fees. For this reason, we recommend bringing cash if you plan on gambling on a cruise ship. Some cruise lines like Costa and Windstar are cash only.

Taxes On Gambling Wins When Youre On A Cruise Ship

Ok, heres where things get a little more complicated.

Paying taxes on your winnings really depends on whether the amount you win is deemed worthy of reporting to the state by the casino operators on board the ship.

Should somebody win over $1,200 in a single payout or enjoy a table game win with odds of 300/1 or more, then technically the house is required to provide the forms to the lucky winner who can then pay the taxes on their haul.

But, theyll only have to do this if the casino operators are based in a country that taxes its gambling winners.

The UK does not and has not done since it changed its laws back in 2001, so you can keep your cash if youre in its waters.

Domestic Cruise Ships With 250 Or Fewer Passengers To Begin Visiting Maine In Late May

AUGUSTA, Maine Editor’s Note: The video above aired April 27, 2021.

CruiseMaine, part of the Maine Office of Tourism, announced in a release Thursday that small, domestic cruise ship visitation is set to begin in Maine in late May.

American Cruise Lines was among the first small ship, domestic lines to resume passenger operations following more than a yearlong pause. According to the Maine Office of Tourism, ACL currently has six ships operating across eight states, with the Pacific Northwest market set to resume in early May followed by New England and Alaska.

With protocols that are in full compliance with Maines public health requirements, ACLs Independence and American Constitution ships are set to begin operations in Maine on May 22 and June 14, respectively, and will start out with a mandate that all passengers be fully vaccinated, according to the Maine Office of Tourism.

“As with all public health measures, the Maine Office of Tourism said ACLs current mandatory vaccination for passengers will continue to be evaluated as public health metrics evolve,” the Maine Office of Tourism said in its release.

The Maine Office of Tourism said American Cruise Lines protocols have been fully vetted by Maine CDC, making small ship, domestic cruising the next economic sector to resume in Maine, even as medium and large ship cruising remains on hold pending further technical instructions from the federal CDC.

The comeback of cruising out of New Orleans is on hold for now, thanks to Hurricane Ida.

With electricity, drinking water and fuel still scarce across much of Louisiana in the wake of the storm, cruise giant Carnival has canceled a sailing out New Orleans scheduled for Sunday that would have been its first from the city in 17 months.

River cruise lines that operate Mississippi River sailings out of New Orleans also are steering clear of the city for now. Both American Cruise Lines and American Queen Steamboat Company will be operating river cruises in the coming days out of more northerly Mississippi River ports in Mississippi and Tennessee instead of New Orleans.

The Carnival sailing on Sunday the line canceled, on the 2,980-passenger Carnival Glory, would have been the first ocean cruise out of New Orleans by any line since the COVID-19 outbreak was declared a pandemic in March of 2020.

The vessel had been scheduled to operate a seven-day voyage to the Bahamas that would have featured calls at Bimini, Freeport and Nassau.

Carnival said passengers on the canceled sailing would receive a full refund of their cruise fare.
