Ships Resatrt Despite Setbacks
Despite this setback, Carnival Cruise Line continues with its phased-in return to service, and hopefully, New Orleans will be ready for the next scheduled departure on September 12. That voyage will be a seven-day Western Caribbean cruise.
Eight Carnival ships have already resumed operations, including out of Florida, Texas, California, and Washington State. It has not been all smooth sailing as Carnival Panorama, based out of Long Beach, California, is suffering from a maximum cruising speed issue. 27 people also became infected on the Carnival Vista recently on a cruise out of Galveston.
The cruise line continues to follow the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , guidelines, and updates have been made to its protocols to keep everyone onboard its ships protected. This will be the same for Carnival Glory once the ship eventually begins sailings out of New Orleans.
Carnival Glory is among the first ships to receive its new red, white and blue livery and just recently completed a dry dock in France. The ship is 110,000 gross tons and has a guest passenger capacity of 2,980 at double occupancy, However, once the vessel resumes sailings, she will sail at around 70% capacity just like other ships that have already restarted.
Carnival Docks Ship In New Orleans As Emergency Housing For Ida Response Crews
Carnival Cruise Line announced Tuesday that one of its ships would dock in New Orleans to house crews working on Hurricane Ida response.
In an agreement with the city and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Carnival Glory will be docked at the Port of New of Orleans before it resumes scheduled cruises Sept. 19.
Carnival said that the Glory will “serve as emergency housing for frontline workers directly involved in the city’s infrastructure recovery and healthcare needs” and that it can house up to 2,600 hospital workers, emergency responders and city, utility and emergency workers.
“While we want to provide the city of New Orleans with an economic boost by restarting guest operations, we want to first provide this critical housing support to address emergency needs and to get power restored to the region,” Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, said in a news release.

The comeback of cruising out of New Orleans is on hold for now, thanks to Hurricane Ida.
With electricity, drinking water and fuel still scarce across much of Louisiana in the wake of the storm, cruise giant Carnival has canceled a sailing out New Orleans scheduled for Sunday that would have been its first from the city in 17 months.
River cruise lines that operate Mississippi River sailings out of New Orleans also are steering clear of the city for now. Both American Cruise Lines and American Queen Steamboat Company will be operating river cruises in the coming days out of more northerly Mississippi River ports in Mississippi and Tennessee instead of New Orleans.

The Carnival sailing on Sunday the line canceled, on the 2,980-passenger Carnival Glory, would have been the first ocean cruise out of New Orleans by any line since the COVID-19 outbreak was declared a pandemic in March of 2020.
The vessel had been scheduled to operate a seven-day voyage to the Bahamas that would have featured calls at Bimini, Freeport and Nassau.
Carnival said passengers on the canceled sailing would receive a full refund of their cruise fare.

Carnival Glory has finally arrived in New Orleans, Louisiana, after staying away and canceling the first September 5th departure due to the impact of Hurricane Ida. With the Port of New Orleans reopening, the Carnival cruise ship was allowed to enter ahead of the ships delayed restart.
Carnival Glory Arrives In New Orleans
With the Port of New Orleans reopening after Hurricane Ida hit last week, Carnival Glory has been allowed to make her way through the Mississippi River and dock at the cruise terminal in downtown New Orleans. It comes after the ship remained safely away from her homeport due to the impact of Hurricane Ida.
Port Nola posted, Effective September 1, 2021 at 3 p.m., the Captain of the Port New Orleans has set port condition NORMAL. Vessel movement and cargo operations are authorized with restrictions.

Ida approached the city on August 29 at a strong category 4 Hurricane and caused widespread flooding, heavy rainfall, and powerful winds. Isa also caused widespread power outages, with over 1 million homes and businesses without power. Our thoughts go out to all those who are suffering and impacted by the Hurricane.

Carnival Glory To Sail From New Orleans For First Time Since Covid
Carnival Cruise Line announced Monday that Carnival Glory will resume guest operations from New Orleans on September 5 for the first time since March 2020 and COVID-19.
It’s one of three ships resuming operations in September, with another four set to sail in October, bringing the total number of operating ships to 15.
Currently, Carnival is operating under guidelines that say 95% of those on board must be vaccinated. While the cruise line will continue to welcome unvaccinated guests, those individuals, including children under the age of 12, must undergo pre-cruise and pre-embarkation testing and testing again before debarkation. Unvaccinated guests will also be charged a $150 per person charge to cover the costs of testing, Carnival says.
“The decision to sail with vaccinated voyages was a difficult one to make, and we recognize this is disappointing to some of our guests especially the many families with children under the age of 12 who we love to sail, and who love to sail with us,” said Duffy. “It’s important to remember that this is a temporary measure given the current circumstances. In consultation with our medical experts and advisors, we’ve determined this plan is in the best interests of the health and safety of our guests, crew and the destinations that we bring our ships to. It’s very important that we continue to maintain the confidence of our destination partners, so that we can provide our guests with the optimal cruise experience and sail our itineraries.”
