Both the Sequoia and Land Cruisers powertrains are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The official EPA rating for the new Sequoia hasnt been released yet.
In the Sequoia, a motor-generator is the engine starter, can recover energy while braking, and provides a power boost during acceleration and towing. Its the primary power source at speeds below 18 mph to improve the fuel economy.
The 2023 Sequoia can tow up to 9,000 lbs, which is a 22 percent increase over the outgoing model. You can tow up to 7,716 lbs with the Land Cruiser.

Even in TRD Pro trim, it lacks headline-grabbing and desirable off-road tech like electronic swaybar disconnects and a fancy full-time four-wheel-drive system with a locking center differential. But that doesnt mean it will be a poor performer when the going gets tough and dirty. In fact, the Sequoia TRD Pro might help blunt the loss of the Land Cruiser in America for some potential buyers.
In addition to sharing its TNGA-F platform with the global Land Cruiser and its luxury-minded twin, the Lexus LX 600 that unlike the LC is being sold in America, the Sequoia TRD Pro gets Fox internal bypass shocks, a ¼-inch aluminum TRD front skid plate, a locking rear diff, Multi-Terrain Select, Downhill Assist Control, Crawl Control, a Multi-Terrain Monitor. Were not sure what its numbers will look like as far as approach, departure and breakover angles, but it ought to be a fairly formidable package overall.
One area where the Sequoia trounces the Land Cruiser and Lexus LX 600 can be found underhood. The big SUVs standard engine is a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 that makes 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque. In the third row, there is a substantially larger improvement. For the past two generations, the third-row seats have been split along the middle and could have been folded up towards the windows when more cargo room was required. This configuration has been abandoned in favor of more conventional seats that fold flat into the ground.

The 2023 Toyota Sequoia starts at $58,300. It tops out at a whopping $76,000 with the TRD Pro model. The Sequoia full-size SUV is best suited for off-roading enthusiasts that want to take large groups of friends or family members off the beaten path.
Toyota has attempted to make the Sequoia more practical as a daily driver by drastically improving its fuel economy. The redesigned Sequoia is now a standard hybrid SUV. It gets 21 miles per gallon in the city and 24 miles per gallon on the highway. The previous model year got a mere 13 miles per gallon in the city and 17 miles per gallon on the highway .
Toyota Motor Corporation has drastically improved the fuel efficiency of the Toyota Tundra nameplate and now the Toyota Sequoia nameplate. Car and Driver recommends the Limited trim because of better tech and creature comforts, like a larger infotainment system and heated seats.
The Sequoia still isnt a segment leader by any means, but its redesign certainly puts it back in the running. Like its cousin, the Toyota Tundra, the Sequoia has learned some new tricks, and its ready to compete.

The narrow bodywork encourages some intimacy between the right and left passengers. Although the front seats are supportive and comfy, there isnt any multi-contour or massaging technology, which is regrettable in a vehicle of this price. At least they can be adjusted to provide the driver and front passenger with a comfortable position.
The LX Ultra Luxury top-end trims second row is the ideal location. Especially if no one is sitting in the front passenger seat you can fold the seat forward to make room for the power ottoman in front of the right rear bucket.
The seats are really comfortable, with good support for even a lengthy trip, and are configured for maximum reclining. But the left side is also not without merit. While it doesnt have the same footrest as the one on the right, it nevertheless reclines and slides back for additional space, providing almost as much relaxation.
Additionally, there are two 11.4-inch entertainment screens in front of each back seat occupant. There is also a touchscreen positioned in the center console. It manages the settings for the individual seats, climate, and entertainment.

The 2023 Toyota Sequoia starts at about $50,000, and the 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser begins at around $85,000. Thats quite the difference, but the Land Cruiser is considered to be a luxury vehicle. The new Toyota Sequoia Capstone trim provides luxury upgrades and may start at $70,000.

Toyota US has ripped the covers off its third-generation Sequoia, which shares the same underpinnings as the 2022 Toyota LandCruiser, but scores a much more potent V6 engine.
Due in US showrooms later this year, the 2023 Sequoia packs a sizeable 326kW/790Nm punch thanks to its 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol-electric V6 hybrid powertrain.
