The ocean and travel are two of my favorite things. Yet until recently, I had never even considered going on a cruise. I shuddered at the thought of being stuck at sea with thousands of mostly retired strangers and nothing to do but eat, drink and watch cheesy entertainment before making too-brief stops in too many ports. I cringed at the idea of dressing up to dine at an assigned seat in a vast room rimmed with overflowing food stations. Cruise ship travel seemed not only incredibly superficial and spectacularly inefficient, but also highly likely to wreak havoc with my mental state and blood sugar level.
But now, Ive become a travel and a wellness editor who no longer finds socializing with retirees a foreign concept. And Ive learned that the cruise industry has gone all in on the wellness trend: Mainstream lines have added fancy spas, the latest in health and fitness equipment, and lighter meal options to their ships, while high-end lines are designing whole itineraries around health, fitness, yoga and meditation. Plus, dress codes have become less formal throughout the industry, and the average age of cruise ship passengers dropped from 65 in 1995 to 45 in 2005. It seemed time to test my potentially outdated prejudices about cruises as waistline-ruining bacchanals thinly disguised as travel opportunities.

Overall Celebrity Summit First Impressions
Celebrity Summit docked in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Its definitely fair to say that the ship was due maybe even overdue for a freshening up. While Summit was a cutting-edge ship at the time of her 2001 launch, that was 18 years ago. Celebrity recently invested about $500 million in a fleet-wide renovation and, in this case, the influence of Celebrity Edge is definitely evident. Sister brand Royal Caribbean is currently doing the same type of renovation, coined Royal Amplified.
The previous refit put Summits amenities in line with Celebrity Cruises Solstice class ships.
Outside deck on Celebrity Summit has plenty of seating areas.
The new-and-improved Summit feels a bit lighter throughout. While the ship tended to favor darker colors in the past, the new color palette is overall lighter leaning more toward tan, grey, and shades of gold than the heavy blues and reds of the past. Its amazing how something as simple as the colors chosen for furnishings and other design elements can transform a space from stuffy to contemporary, as has happened in numerous public areas around Summit.

While big sister Celebrity Edge has been getting a whole lot of attention over the past few months, Celebrity Summit has quietly undergone a renovation which has made this smaller, older ship worth taking another look at. And thats exactly what we did during a recent sailing on the fresh-out-of-drydock ship.

Unfortunately, it is very hard to give a definitive answer, as the Solstice class is not sailing yet. When given a choice of decks, We tend to stay away from being directly under the pool. On the other hand, mid-ship is a great place to be. In the case of Aqua class, you only have 1 deck to choose from. Celebrity Cruises is considered to be the luxury brand of Royal Caribbean. Embarkation Day Lunch And Priority Dining Time Selection
Concierge Class guests are invited to a semi-exclusive lunch in the MDR on embarkation day, which means they can avoid the crowded buffet at the Oceanview Cafe.
Since Blu doesnt serve lunch, AquaClass guests will need to visit the buffet or another one of the dining venues for lunch.
Concierge Class guests also receive priority when selecting dining times in both the MDR and specialty restaurants, although AquaClass guests have exclusive access to Blu, which does not require reservations.
Dont Miss The Sunset Bar And Martini Bar
Our members speak out loud and clear when they rave about the Sunset Bar. They enjoy the stellar service as well as its beautiful views both during the evenings and during sailaway from port. Also spoken highly of is the Martini Bar, where bartenders arent afraid to get creative and put on a fun show for the crowd.
This is a lovely ship with many areas to sit for the sun or for hiding away to read. The Crush Martini Bar is not to be missed in the evening. Apart from great drinks the bartenders put on a fun little show to amuse the cruisers. babruce1124

Celebrity Silhouette: 7 Things I Loved About This Solstice Class Ship
It didnt take long to feel at home in this luxurious vessel. Sailing on Celebrity Silhouette this last week provided some insight into why so many people not only love Celebrity Cruises but the Solstice-class ships as well.
There are 5 Solstice-class ships in Celebrity Cruises fleet. Celebrity Silhouette is the 4th of these ships and was launched in 2011. The ship is due for some upgrades in 2020, but just walking around the ship felt like it could have just come out of dry dock a few months ago.
Its a fantastic ship in a really great class. I wanted to point out my favorite parts of the ship in this article and provide a few photos of Silhouette so you can see if this is the kind of cruise ship you may want to sail on yourself.
