The Freedom Of The Seas Pulled Away From Portmiami About 7 Pm Sunday With A Fully Vaccinated Crew And About 600 Volunteer Passengers

Royal Caribbean Cruise Ships Leaving Miami: Drone Video

Royal Caribbean Internationals Freedom of the Seas left PortMiami on Sunday night on the cruise companys first simulated cruise to test its COVID-19 health and safety protocols.

The ship left Miami about 7 p.m. with a fully vaccinated crew and about 600 volunteer passengers, many of them company employees. The two-day voyage includes a stop in CocoCay, a Bahamian island owned by the Miami-based cruise line.

The trip is a major milestone for the cruising industry after it came to a sudden halt last year during the COVID-19 pandemic and has not sailed with passengers for 15 months.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a conditional sailing requirements for cruise lines to resume revenue sailings. Options were for ships to execute a test voyage or mandate that 95 percent of the passengers were vaccinated against COVID-19.

Royal Caribbean opted for the test cruise for Freedom of Seas, which typically carries about 4,000 passengers.

However, the CDC sailing orders become moot July 18. A federal judge on Friday granted an injunction for the state of Florida in a legal challenge to the CDCs authority.

Royal Caribbean had previously announced that passengers on revenue cruised were only strongly recommended to be fully vaccinated. Unvaccinated guests must undergo COVID testing at their own expense.

Pre Or Post Cruise Options From Miami

It would be a shame to cruise out of the Port of Miami without spending some time in this exciting, vibrant city! Travel Channel and USA Today have ranked the areas beaches as some of the best in the entire country. And although its tempting to spread a beach blanket, relax and just soak up the rays, theres so much more to do in Miami.

South Beach: Although it is only 17 blocks long and 12 blocks wide, the South Beach district of Miami is known for world-class dining and the hottest club scene in America. The area boasts a large collection of Art Deco architecture built between 1923 and 1943. Wander on your own or take a guided walking tour of the colorful apartments, hotels and other buildings. This distinct style is represented by the use of materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, inlaid wood, and lacquer and styles such as stepped forms, zigzags, and dramatic curves.

Everglades National Park: Covering 2500 square miles, this is the third largest National Park in the lower 48 states. Many rare and endangered species call this subtropical wilderness home. The diverse habitat allows nature lovers the opportunity to enjoy birding, hiking, canoe and kayaking, biking, fresh and saltwater fishing, and camping in the ultimate wilderness. Ncl Cruise Ship Lifeguards

1,000

In April 2017, NCL Norwegian Cruise Line announced the company will employ certified lifeguards on some of its vessels and fleetwide . The news made NCL, the 3rd major cruise company with lifeguards onboard its ships – following Disney and Royal Caribbean.

  • The onboard lifeguards are stationed only at the family pools during scheduled swimming pool hours. This staff will be “American Red Cross” trained and certified.
  • NCL will also offer complimentary swim vests for both adults and kids. Parents can obtain safety vests at the Lido Deck’s towel station during daytime hours.
  • The first NCL ships with lifeguards will be Norwegian Epic , Norwegian Escape , Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Breakaway .
  • NCL started testing monitoring through CCTV cameras at family pools since 2015. So adding full-time lifeguards was a decision for more safety on pool decks. However, it should be known that lifeguards don’t replace parental supervision and that parents remain the best form for preventing onboard accidents.
  • Disney Cruise Line employs certified lifeguards since 2013. RCI Royal Caribbean employs cruise ship lifeguards since February 2017 . RCI’s onboard lifeguards are dressed in special uniforms and stationed at every onboard swimming pool, including the Solarium during the complex’ opening hours.

Is There A Shuttle From Miami Airport To Cruise Port

Yes! With Miami airport only being a short 10-15 minute drive away from the cruise port, youll find that there will almost always be a shuttle service available. Cruise lines such as Carnival Cruises and Royal Caribbean have a shuttle service from the airport directly to the cruise port. Alternatively, you could also seek out and find an independent shuttle which will typically come at a lower price. If youre unable to find a shuttle, there will always be the option of taking a taxi or using a rideshare app to bring you to the cruise port, however, this is generally considered to be the most expensive choice.
