A Luxurious Uniworld Tour Of Venice And The Po River Is The Ideal Way To Discover The Floating City Which Won Best European Destination At The British Cruise Awards 2018 By Gary Buchanan

Known as La Serenissima, the most serene, Venice did for artistry what Greece did for democracy. With its surfeit of beauty, this is a truly special city and fascinating to explore on a Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection stay-and-cruise. Ideally fused with its watery element, the implausible setting, with its Campanile and domes, colonnades and pinnacles, is an impressive sight and an architectural enthusiasts paradise.

For almost a thousand years this aquatic city of marble and stone at the northern tip of the Adriatic was the acknowledged mistress of the Mediterranean. Never once was it invaded or destroyed. The shallow lagoon that separates Venice from the mainland not only acted as protection, but was instrumental in establishing an enduring trading empire that was the envy of the civilised world.

Similarly, the merriment in the Castillo Lounge on board Uniworlds;River Countess was the envy of curious tourists enjoying an evening passeggiata. This was the first of five nights I spent alongside either the San Basilio pier in the Dorsoduro district or at the Sette Martiri, a prestigious location in the Castello neighbourhood where superyachts tie up close to grandiose restaurants.

Uniworld Boutique River Cruise Collection is a company that defies convention and the 130-passenger River Countess is no exception.

Italy River Cruises Travel Tips

  • To ensure walking comfort, wear cushioned walking shoes that fit well on your feet, as you will do a great deal of walking off the river cruise ship.;
  • Check your travel documents for errors and keep them accessible and handy for quick retrieval.
  • Convert your currency so you have a way to pay if you cannot use your credit card.
  • Pack your clothes so you only bring what you need. You should only need to travel with a carryon and a soft and small-wheeled duffel bag with a telescopic handle for easy transport.
  • Carry a universal travel adapter to quickly connect your electronics.
  • Carry a light sweater or jacket in case the air conditioning is too cold or you get caught in a shower.
  • Use Google Translate to help you read Italian language menus and signs.

Reviews For Italy Tours And Vacations

This was our first tour with Affordable Tours and Globus. This planned trip exceeded our expectations, from the hotel accommodations, meals, and the guided tours. Special mention to our great tour director, Chiro who ensured that everything ran smoothly, Gerardo, our bus driver, and also tour guide Yvonne. The whole crew went above and beyond what they were supposed to do. Great, reputable company! My husband and I are already talking about planning another Italy tour, hopefully one with Chiro as the tour director.

    Rosel C

Overall, the trip was exceptional. The tour guide Riccardo was outstanding…very friendly, caring and knowledgeable about the areas visiting. The accommodations in Bari and Napoli were disappointing. In Bari, the room at Grande Albergo delle Nazario was extremely small which made it difficult to manage suitcases for 2 people. In Napoli, the room at Hotel Royal Continental certainly needed updating. The overall appearance of the room looked worn and a little shabby. However, the condition of these 2 rooms did not affect the great time we had. Will definitely travel with Gate 1 again.

    Single River Cruise Prices

The river cruises on this page all show the prices for one person. These prices are inclusive of any single supplements which may have been applied. River cruises with single cabins are rare, but it is sometimes possible to find European river cruises without single supplements.

Here at River Voyages, we have a team of expert Concierge who can give you a quote for one person on any river cruise, as well as advising on the best time to book to secure the best deals on river cruises without single supplements in 2020 and 2021.

What To Do On An Italy Cruise

    po river venice

Plan your days for each port to enjoy the sites. From Cannes, France; Barcelona, Spain; Naples, Italy to Athens, Greece there are many historical sites and world-renowned artwork to see. Eat local cuisines from each port such as pasta, tapas, wine and pastries. Shop like a local at various markets and for high-end fashion items.

Which Cruise Lines Have No Single Supplements

Many of the above cruise lines also offer no single supplements on their sailings, meaning you don’t have to pay a premium price to travel alone. Whilst river cruise lines dont tend to have single cabins, double cabins are always available for single occupancy, with some cruise lines offering no single supplements for solo travellers. One of the best ways to get a great deal as a single traveller is to book a river cruise without a single supplement. The standard single supplement can be anything up to 100% of the cruise fare, so looking out for river cruises where the single supplement is waived or reduced can be a great way to make a saving.

Some river cruises have get-togethers for single travellers such as welcome dinners and cocktail parties where people can get together and make new friends. Tables in the on-board restaurants are shared, so youll always have someone to chat to over dinner should you want to.
