Whats A Transatlantic Cruise

Transatlantic cruises are cruises that sail anywhere across the Atlantic Ocean from one continent to another. Most cruises that travel across the Atlantic either depart from Europe and end in the United States, or the other way around. Some transatlantic sailings also travel to and from South America, too.

In the cruising industry, transatlantic sailings are also called repositioning cruises. Repositioning cruises are cruises that sail from one region of the world to another after the tourist season in one area has ended and the ship then relocates to another area, most often with a warmer climate.

Europe: Cruise Brands Still Doing Far Too Little To Mitigate Environmental Impact Says Nabu

Berlin-based NGO NABU says the results of its tenth cruise ranking show that cruise brands are still doing far too little to protect the environment, human health, and the climate.

In the ranking, NABU evaluated the implemented measures and goals of cruise operators on the way to a clean climate-neutral cruise based on NABU’s roadmap to 2040. Nineteen shipping companies were surveyed, and a total of 17 points could be scored.

Hurtigruten Norway, which placed first on the list, achieved half of the achievable points. Among the top five are three German companies AIDA, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises and TUI Cruises. While NABU said these companies can be considered pioneers especially for measures on large ships, the results, said the NGO, also show that the companies are mainly making promises and announcements, but so far little has been done in concrete terms to improve the situation.

In the tenth year of the cruise ranking, the results once again show that environmental and climate protection are still not at the forefront for the cruise companies, said Sönke Diesener, NABU cruise expert. Heavy fuel oil continues to be the fuel of choice for the majority of existing fleet. Only a few truly future-proof projects are in the planning and implementation stages. But the nature and climate crises are pressuring.

The Pros And Cons Of Cruising In Europe

Recently I was on a massive cruise ship with 3,000 passengers blitzing the great ports of the Mediterranean and having lots of fun. No, I’m not suddenly abandoning my independent travel principles and becoming a huge proponent of cruising. But I am impressed by the economy, efficiency, and popularity of this kind of traveland, to be honest, I enjoy cruising.

I’m the first to admit that cruising doesn’t appeal to everyone. For some, it’s anti-travel. For others, it’s the perfect vacation.

On our ship, I met people who seemed to be having a great timemost of them veterans of many cruises. I also met lots of budget-conscious travelers who told me that a cruise is a wonderful value.

The per-day base cost for mainstream cruises beats independent travel by a mile. For a weeklong European cruise, a couple can pay as little as $100 per person per night that’s less than most hotel rooms in London or Paris. To link all the places on your own with hotels, rail passes, boat tickets, taxi transfers, restaurants, and so on would add up fast. And you can’t beat the convenience and efficiency of sleeping while you travel to your next destination.

There are some negatives. There’s no denying that the cruising industry contributes to water, air, and marine-noise pollution but technology and consumer pressure are helping a bit. Environmental responsibility is such a hot topic that all the large cruise lines have website sections where you can evaluate their efforts.

Cultural and historical attractions are present nearly everywhere — whether that’s exploring Roman ruins, visiting famous art museums or touring castles, fortresses and historic homes. Beautiful cathedrals and religious sites are plentiful. Tasty food and wine tours are educational and available throughout all of Europe.

Why Did The European Union Make This Decision

    Fredericia

In June, the United States had fewer than 75 cases of COVID-19 per 100,000 inhabitants, the number required to meet the threshold for the European Union’s safe travel list.

Today, the United States has cases that exceed the EU’s guidance, much of which is represented by the that is already causing disruption to the cruise industry and travel in general.

While there are some European cruises year-round, spring, summer and fall are the major times to go. Summertime is the primary time that Baltic and Arctic cruises are offered to destinations in Northern Europe.
