How To Watch ‘jungle Cruise’ On Disney Plus

“” premiered on July 30 in theaters and on Disney Plus with Premier Access. In order to stream the movie through Disney Plus, you have to pay a one-time $30 fee on top of your subscription.

Viewers who purchase “Jungle Cruise” through Premier Access can watch the film as many times as they like as long as they remain a Disney Plus member. Disney Plus costs $8 a month or $80 a year.

If you don’t mind waiting a couple months, “Jungle Cruise” will become available to all Disney Plus members without an extra fee on November 12.

For viewers who want a wider variety of entertainment options, Disney Plus offers a bundle with Hulu and ESPN+ for a discounted rate of $14 a month. The bundle saves you $7 off the regular combined price of all three services.

What’s Jungle Cruise About Anyway

The Jungle Cruise movie is based on the Disneyland ride of the same name. Johnson plays a boat skipper named Frank, who takes Blunt’s character Lily and her brother McGregor on a mission to find a tree that has magical healing powers.

The journey sees them fight wild animals and compete against a rival German expedition, with Disney adding that there is a “supernatural element.”

A month before the movie’s release, Disney launched two trailers: One from The Rock and one from Blunt, each making their own character the star of the movie. A trailer dropped in late May, showing off Jesse Plemons’ submarine-captaining villain.

Some Pretty Famous People Have Been Skippers

Disney has been known to employ some famous actors and actresses before they become the stars we know today. Steve Martin, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Wayne Brady all call themselves former Cast Members. There are also some A-List celebs who call themselves a former Jungle Cruise skipper including Robin Williams and Kevin Costner.

How To Watch Jungle Cruise For ‘free’ On Disney Plus

You can now start streaming Jungle Cruise on Disney Plus for free if you’re subscribed to the service. Even after Disney Plus Day is over, Jungle Cruise and several other new movies — including Disney’s Shang-Chi and the Home Alone reboot — will continue to be free as long as you have a subscription. Normally Disney Plus charges an additional $30 for Premier Access when a new movie is released, on top of its monthly subscription charge.

If you’ve already got a Disney Plus account, use the search bar to look up Jungle Cruise and then tap Play. You’ll also likely see it promoted on the Home page. If you don’t have a subscription, you’ll need to choose from one of the below options — you can cancel any time.

How Disney’s Jungle Cruise Ends

The quest of is all about the discovery of a mystical tree that legend tells has magical healing powers. If this tree could be found it could potentially save millions of lives. That’s the goal of Emily Blunt’s Dr. Lily Houghton, but we learn earlier in the film that Dwayne Johnson‘s Skipper Frank Wolff is also looking for the tree for his own reasons. He’s been cursed and he needs the tree to break the curse so that he can finally die.

It turns out Frank was part of the same group of Conquistadors who went searching for the tree hundreds of years before, and he was cursed along with his leader Aguirre . Frank hopes that the tree will set him free of the curse, which forces him to stay near the Amazon River. After living several hundred years, Frank is ready to simply find his final rest, though Lily, who realizes she has feelings for Frank, is not as interested in this possibility.

In the end, the tree is discovered, but Lily is only able to obtain a single petal from it before the tree goes dormant. At the same time, Frank blows up his ship in order to use it as a dam and block the Amazon River inside the cave. By separating Aguirre and his soldiers from the water, they become frozen in time and trapped among the tree roots. Unfortunately, since Frank is under the same curse, the same fate befalls him.

Lily ends up using the one petal from the tree to attempt to rescue Frank and it works. However, instead of dying, by choice or luck, Frank lives on rather than dying.

The Movie Changes Dr Albert Falls’ Backstory

Albert Falls was originally a joke in the Jungle Cruise ride, being the name given to the discoverer of Schweitzer Falls. But, of course, the actual namesake is Nobel Prize winner Albert Schweitzer. Disney’s creates a mystery around Albert Falls. According to the film, Falls originally acquired the legendary arrowhead, which helps find the Tears of the Moon. He leaves the arrowhead in possession of the explorers association that rudely rejects Lily and her brother early in the movie. There are many questions about Falls’ journey and how he got the arrowhead, but the movie doesn’t add a lot of details.

What Disneyland’s Jungle Cruise Could Tell Us About Future Movies

The movie is called and because of the cross promotional opportunities between the movie and the theme park, we can be fairly certain that any sequels will use the same name, and will likely thus involve our heroes traveling down a river in the middle of a jungle. But that’s just fine because the actual Jungle Cruise attraction includes many of the world’s greatest rivers already.

The story of the at Disneyland suggests that guests actually travel down several of the biggest rivers in the world, one right after the other. The Amazon, the setting for the new movie, is actually the last river you travel down, after already visiting the Irrawaddy and Mekong rivers, then traveling down the Nile and the Congo.

As such, it would make all the sense in the world for future movies to be set in one of these other places. All the next movie would need is a reason that Frank, Lily, and McGregor would want to travel there, and then they can head down the river once more, in search of some new mystery and with all new dangers trying to stop them.

Whether or not there will actually be sequels will be determined by Disney from a combination of the film’s success at the box office and on Disney+. But if it does happen there are many cruises left to take.

How The Jungle Cruise Ride Portrayed Indigenous Characters

In the Jungle Cruise theme park attraction, Indigenous peoples appeared as headhunting tribesmen with spears in their handsnext to piles of human skullswho guides warned were attacking passing boats. One character in particular who was portrayed as primitive and dangerous was Trader Sam, who carried shrunken heads and was known as the head salesman.He has a great special for you all today: just two of his heads for one of yours, a skipper would joke to tourists on the ride. The headhunting tribe is gone, Trader Sam is replaced with Trader Sams gift shop that includes a lost and found, and the trapped safari scene now features adventurers of varied racial backgrounds grabbing onto the tree. The changes were made at the theme park in Anaheim, and Disney has said the updates will be completed by this summer at Walt Disney World in Orlando.

A ride at Disneyland that used to feature racist, colonialist depictions of Africans now emphasizes slapstick monkeys and chimpanzees besting clueless tourists instead.

Jungle Cruise, which originally opened in 1955, until recently featured spear-waving, headhunting Africans as part of the attraction. A revamped version of the ride opened Friday at Disney’s theme park in Anaheim, Calif. Disney previously announced the ride will also be redone at Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla.

Ride Vehicles On The Disney Jungle Cruise

Since the Jungle Cruise takes Guests on a 10,000-mile river journey, the only way to travel is by Jungle Cruise boat. Guests will board the Jungle Cruise boats which all have their own fun names and it on benches along the sides of the boat. There is also a bench for seating in the middle of the boat as well. Each boat can hold around 32 Guests.

Guests with hearing impairments can also receive assistive listening devices or even a sign language interpreter upon request.

What Is Disneyland’s Jungle Cruise Ride

It’s no surprise that Disney is going after another ride-based movie, after the success of its Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise. The Jungle Cruise is even older than the Pirates ride. It was the only attraction to exist in Adventureland on Disneyland’s opening day in 1955.

The Jungle Cruise attraction features a boat ride through a man-made jungle, with each tour led by a skipper who follows a pun-filled script. The boat travels past crocodiles, piranhas, monkeys, elephants, rhinos, cannibals, hippos and the infamous Back Side of Water, the eighth wonder of the world.

As he prepared for the movie, Johnson said on Instagram, Disney’s Imagineers let him see the original Jungle Cruise concept art from the 1950s, as well as gave him an “oral/visual history lesson behind the iconic ride and its infamous and relentlessly entertaining skippers.”

The ride was overhauled at both Disneyland and Disney World to include new scenes and remove racially insensitive depictions. It reopened at Disneyland on July 16. The ride will also be among those whose history is explored in the Disney Plus documentary series Behind the Attraction.

How The ‘jungle Cruise’ Movie Helped Bring Change To Disneyland’s Ride

LOS ANGELES A single Instagram post in 2017 caused a momentary panic in the Disney community.

Dwayne Johnson, standing in front of a Herb Ryman-drawn map of the initial proposal for Disneyland, stated that he and his production company were partnering with Walt Disney Imagineering the secretive division of the company responsible for theme park experiences to “reengineer and redesign” the Jungle Cruise ride, one of Disneyland’s opening-day attractions.

Updates to the ride were, of course, long overdue, as numerous scenes contained offensive tribal caricatures crafted through a colonialist lens. Johnson’s Jungle Cruise vision was unknown, and while the attraction, overseen by Walt Disney, had undergone numerous changes over six decades most designed to add more humor and creatures would a robotic Rock be on the horizon?

Not quite. Or at least not yet, as the combined box office and Disney+ grosses of the Johnson and Emily Blunt-starring film “Jungle Cruise” will likely determine the audio-animatronic possibilities at Disney’s parks around the world. For now, at least, nods to the action-focused blockbuster-hopeful with a mystical, “Raiders of the Lost Ark”-influenced tone remain subtle and of the more hidden, “Easter egg” variety in the Disneyland original.

The film makes a number of additional progressive tweaks.

What Are The Similarities Between Jungle Cruise And The African Queen

In addition to the basic plot that sees a grizzled skipper transporting a slightly more refined lady downriver, both films are set during World War I. But while The African Queen took place in Africa, is set in South America, though it was filmed in Hawaii and Atlanta. While both Blunt and Hepburns characters have brothers who appear in the film, gives Jack Whitehall, who plays MacGregor Houghton, a much more substantial role. And in both films, our protagonists are antagonized by German forces whom they are fighting with.

One major difference is that while The African Queen is based in reality, features a mystical Tree of Life that Dr. Houghton wants to find to harness its magical energy and healing powers. A glowing CGI tree in the middle of the jungle? Thats certainly one thing Bogey and Hepburn never crossed paths with in their time.

Description Of Specific Changes

The baboons at the safari camp previously sat on the African termite mounds. A total of six lions have been removed since opening day: one that growled when the African Veldt was added, two lionesses from the Veldt that were fighting over a bloody strand of zebra meat, a lion and a lioness that each had a zebra leg in their mouth, and a dead lion hanging on a spit over a fire in the native village. Also removed from the Veldt were African wild dogs laughing at the pride. The native village was originally a dense jungle filled with tikis, masks, and several more natives. Trader Sam previously wore a mask and a gorilla across the channel tried to grab his merchandise.

Starting in 2013, a holiday overlay was added themed to Christmas at both Disneyland Park and Magic Kingdom with holiday-themed jokes and decorations on the boats, and holiday music on the radio station in the queue in the aptly-named “Jingle Cruise“. This refurbishment ceased in the January of 2017 but continued to be performed at the Magic Kingdom.

The Rock Isn’t An Average Jungle Cruise Skipper

When it comes to , The Rock isn’t like the regular skippers on the ride. He does have some similarities, constantly cracking one-liner jokes and puns throughout the movie however, he also gets an incredibly complicated backstory. The film reveals that Frank is also one of the cursed Spanish conquistadors who set out for the Tears of the Moon hundreds of years ago. After being cursed, he is forced to live along the Amazon River, constantly searching for Tears of the Moon so its petals can free him, and he can die in peace. The story is a vastly different depiction of the wise-cracking skippers that generally lead the ride.
