Faq About Park & Cruise New Orleans Hotels

Where is the best location to stay in New Orleans?

Honestly, the best location to stay in New Orleans is right in the heart of the city. This way youll be close to the cruise port and be able to visit as much of New Orleans as you want. If youd rather not be right in the city, Metairie is also a great choice and only a few miles away.Of the list above, our favorite hotel to stay in for cruises is the first one on the list, the New Orleans Riverside. Its walking distance from the port you get a steep discount on parking and on your room cost.

Is parking free in New Orleans?

No, there is no truly free parking available in New Orleans. Even if you book a Park & Cruise package from a hotel, and the details of the package includes free parking, its still not completely free. Its very likely that the package costs more than their standard rate, so in a way youre still paying to park your car there. Therefore, when it comes to finding a great hotel to stay in, we tend to prefer the ones that offer a discount on their normal parking rates, rather than hiking up the price of their cruise package.

How much is it to park at the New Orleans cruise port?

To park at the New Orleans Cruise Port it costs between $20-$22 per day. More if you have an oversized vehicle like a bus or an RV. If you are using the Erato Street Cruise Terminal, youll park in the garage on top of the terminal. For the Julia Street Cruise Terminal the parking lot is just off to the side from the terminal.

    Are There Any Off

You cant beat the convenience and ease of parking right atthe cruise terminal. All you have to do is park and then walk right to theterminal to board your ship.

But what if spending $140 for a week of parking isnt inyour travel budget? Or you dont want to spend $40 a night for your RV or bus?

Well, luckily for you, New Orleans has a few off-siteparking options with drastically lower costs that will be much easier on yourbudget.

Closest Hotel To Port For Cruise

    New Orleans Cruise Port/Terminal

What is the closest hotel to the port? We are going on a Carnival cruise later this year and just need a hotel for one night. Also, would the hotel be walking distance to the port? Thanks

On behalf of cruise visitors, I, along with my reluctant but lovely wife, ventured around the Cruise Terminal last September to assess the viability of walking or taking a streetcar to the Cruise Ship Terminal. This should be an easy process, but with the partial closure of Riverwalk Mall it’s almost like there has been a conspiracy mandating taking a taxicab.

The Erato Terminal is technically inaccessible to pedestrians, requiring a relatively long walk the wrong way down a one-way drive marked something like “no entry”. The Julia Terminal is somewhat more accessible, but requires elevators and ramps designed for another pupose, not easy to figure out and very cumbersome with anything more than one medium rollerbag per person. The previous access way from Riverwalk Mall has been chained shut in what appears to be a permanent manner The streetcars do not have bagage racks.

It shouldn’t be this way, and with relatively little in the way of improvements the Cruise Ship Terminal could become pedestrian and streetcar friendly but, hey, it’s New Orleans.

The good news is that if your lodging is less than a mile or so from the Cruise Ship Terminal, the cab fare, including luggage, should be $10 for one person in a cab, $7 per head for more than one person in one cab.

Easy To Get To Cruise Port

Stayed here pre-cruise and we were very happy with location! Staff were very nice & breakfast was great. I unfortunately fractured my wrist the afternoon before the cruise & the staff provided me with enough plastic bags to wrap my soft cast in! Easy walk to the Erato Street Cruise terminal from the hotel! My friends were able to walk to Mulate’s for a fun cajun evening while I got to spend 7 hours in the local ER with my good friend who is a nurse!

Stayed here before our NCL cruise. Had a really good stay and rate with breakfast near de port it was only couple mins drive and still close to French quarter for a walk. Hotel is fully renovated and is huge. The only part we did not like much is that theres only 3 elevators together and the hotel is big, big! Theres some walking to the rooms but is not bad, just ask for room near elevator if you need assistance walking as its quite big. Breakfast was good and the service really attentive as well. Coffee machines available at room at lobby

New Orleans Hotels With Cruise Shuttles

Before the health crisis, several hotels in the city offered shuttle rides over to the cruise port. Now the numbers are far fewer. For most spots, a quick Uber/Lyft is your best option to get to the ship.

Hampton Inn & Suites Convention CenterAs for location, it really doesnt get much better than this. While the Hampton Inn at the Convention Center is within walking distance of the port, it also offers a shuttle to the cruise terminal as part of a package. While we didnt see the offer online, a call to the hotel told us it was available.

There is not a shuttle from the airport, so youll need to find your own method of transportation if flying in. If driving, the Hampton Inn offers a cruise package with parking for $14 a night a little cheaper than the parking rate at the official port parking lots.

History Of The New Orleans Cruise Terminal

Over the years the Port of New Orleans serves to provide aneconomic boost to the region, until the Civil War when the port is closed andgoes unused for over a decade.

The port is finally reopened in the late 1870s and the nexthundred years is spent growing the port and adding cruise terminals. It isntlong before the New Orleans Cruise Terminal becomes one of the most popularports for both the transportation of goods and passengers.
