How To Get From Southampton Cruise Terminal To London

Don't Miss

Are There Other Options Available

London to Southampton Cruise Terminal – National Express Bus Coach

While public transportation is certainly one of the best options available, there are other options that may work better for you.

If you are a confident driver you could lease a car to drive from Heathrow Airport to Southampton cruise port. The journey should take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes as long as traffic is clear and there are no other problems.;

I wouldnt recommend this option for the majority of people, as the drive isnt a particularly pleasant one. Ive been driving in the UK for almost 10 years but would still be nervous about this journey, let alone after having been on a flight.

The recommended route, if you did decide to drive, would be to:

  • Drive along Wigeon Rd. and Wayfarer Rd. for 0.6 miles or 0.97 km .
  • Take M3 to A27 in Hampshire, and take exit 14 from M3 for 58.5 miles or 94.15 km .
  • Follow A33 to Ocean Cruise Terminal Berth 46-49, which is about 4.5 miles or 7.24 km .

Taking A Taxi From Heathrow Airport To Southampton Cruise Port

Taking a taxi is the easiest and quickest option but can be expensive. You can get to Southampton in as little as 90 minutes if the roads are clear. If the traffic is bad this could take considerably longer.

If you are a large group, it might be worthwhile hiring a private bus or mini bus as this can work out cheaper per person.

Prebooking a taxi is always a good idea and can save you a considerable amount of money.

When booking the taxi, its a good idea to give the taxi company your flight number instead of a fixed time, so that they can monitor your incoming flight and pick you up at the right time.

This also means that there are no extra fees if your flight is late. In fact, all taxes and parking rates are included in the taxi price. A taxi from Heathrow Airport to Southampton Cruise Port will start at around $140 for the car.;

Small Car

Id recommend getting a quote from a company like Airport Pickups London.

Best Time To Visit And Cruise From Southampton

London To Southampton Cruise Ship Bus

Southampton is far warmer in the summer months and therefore youll find more outdoor things to enjoy, including festivals and events. But we think Southampton is a great place to visit at any time of the year because theres always something to do.

Youll often find an impressive Christmas market in the heart of the city during the festive season, the Isle of Wight Festival is held every year on its namesake island, the Southampton annual Boat Show is world-renowned and there are dozens of public spaces, restaurants and bars to enjoy

Cruise ships visit and depart the city throughout the year, with the summer being incredibly busy for those escaping on Mediterranean cruises or Norwegian Fjords and Baltic cruises. The cooler autumn and winter months are usually when youll see an increase in sailings to places such as the Canary Islands and across to the Caribbean.

Southampton is also the start point for many World Cruises, so it really does live up to its other name of Gateway to the World.

Southampton Cruise Terminal Facilities

Whether you bring your car or come via public transport, everything is within comfortable walking distance from entering the port to boarding the ship. All Southampton cruise terminals are fully accessible with full access walkways, entrances and toilet facilities. It is advised you notify the line of any mobility limitations upon booking if in need of any assistance. The four terminals are all modern or recently renovated, with plenty of facilities to keep you comfortable until its time to depart or your connection arrives.

City Terminal
Harbour Parade

As a major UK hub for tourism and a main cruise port, Southampton has many hotel chains located around the port and city centre while quainter BnB style accommodation can be found around the outskirts and surrounding areas with prices varying from £50 a night to £200. Its strongly advised you book your hotel accommodation along with your cruise and parking to avoid inconvenience and disappointment as space can get very tight throughout the year, especially during peak cruising months.

If you time your visit right there are also a number of festivals and events including many music festivals throughout the year and even Oktoberfest between 26th and 29th October. Additionally, if travelling via London, why not stop and see the world-famous sights that Englands capital city has to offer, from Big Ben and red buses to the iconic Natural History and British Museums.

London To Southampton Cruise Port

Thinking of doing Stonehenge, and Bath on the way to Southahmpton to catch our cruise in July. Do you think it would better for us to a day trip while we are in London or could we do this on the way to Southhampton? If we could do this stop on the way to the ship can someone recommend a tour company we could use that would take us to see Stonehenge, Bath on the way to Southampton?

Most tour companies offer Stonehenge and Bath as a full day’s travel, so I suspect if you tried to visit both places and get to Southampton, the sights would get short shrift.

Better to visit Bath and Stonehenge as a day trip then travel to Southampton with a bit of time to spare. Depending on how many are travelling, how much luggage you will have and the day of the week on which you need to travel, you may find it easiest to take the train from London Waterloo to Southampton.

If you need to travel on a Saturday or Sunday, though, track maintenance may extend the travel time or have limited services on offer. As of today, trains can be booked up to 22 or 23 June – visit www.nationalexpresseastcoast.com – and South West Trains are showing planned works only through the first week of June.

Sorry, its impractical for several reasons;

1) Neither are actually ‘on the way’ especially Bath.

2) There would be no tour company offering this so it would be wildly expensive as you’d need to hire a private car&driver for the entire day. At a guess £500+.

Take a separate tour 🙂

Do you think this would work?

Where Do I Board The London

Victoria Coach Station is like a regional airport with destination boards, toilets, fast food, left luggage etc..

The coaches only stop at a few regional towns on the journey like Basingstoke or Winchester – no stops are made at hotels or Southampton cruise terminals.

For Southampton departures the coach station is in the heart of Southampton city centre. There are no shuttles or public transport connecting the cruise terminals and the coach station. From Southampton’s cruise terminals it is too far to walk with luggage, you must take a local taxi from the cruise terminal rank costing around £10.

London Waterloo Victoria & Southampton Train Stations

Waterloo Station is in the heart of London on the south bank of the River Thames, next to the London Eye with the Houses of Parliament within sight. It is not a major hotel district, though there are some very large chain hotels in the vicinity. These hotels will normally have County Hall or Waterloo in their name. They are not cheap but at the weekend there are good deals as the target audience are those with government business in the vicinity..

Victoria is a major very large hotel district with much better links to the two main airports, Heathrow and Gatwick. You do pay a price premium for a hotel in this area compared with districts like Kensington.

If you’re looking to book a London hotel we have a comprehensive page guiding you through all of the districts.

Southampton Central Station, is in the heart of the city centre. It’s too far to walk from here to the any of Southampton’s cruise terminals with luggage. There are no shuttles or public transport serving the cruise terminals. You must therefore take a local cab to your cruise ship. It’s just a few minutes drive and should cost no more than £10. There are no porters to assist you from the station platform to the taxi rank.
