Celebrity Edge Cruise Ship Design And Features

Celebrity Edge Tour: What Makes Edge Unique | Celebrity Cruises

The new Celebrity Edge cruise ship features a cutting-edge design developed by Nate Berkus. The unique outward facing design distinguishes the ship from traditional cruise ships. The design integrates Magic Carpet, the worlds first cantilevered floating platform.

The Magic Carpet features plush seating, a full bar, and a space for live music. The transformable platform serves different purposes based on its positioning.

On the upper deck of the ship, food is served at Dinner on the Edge, while Deck 14 serves as an extension of the swimming pool, and Deck 5 transforms into an open-air dining venue. The Magic Carpet extends the Destination Gateway at Deck 2.

The ship has a length of 306m, beam of 39m, draught of 8.2m and gross tonnage of 129,500t. It has the capacity to accommodate 2,908 passengers. The cruise speed of the vessel is 21.8k.

What About Specialty Restaurants

On Celebrity Edge, there are also several new specialty restaurants that are an up-charge. When you have Select Dining Plus, you can still eat at these venues if you choose. Please know that the specialty restaurants are reservation only, except for Raw on 5.

Popular venues do fill up quickly, especially at prime dinner times. If you want to dine at a specialty restaurant, we recommend making reservations before your cruise. While onboard, there will be limited availability, usually later in the evening.

A Plethora Of Dining Options

Apex has 29 different food and beverage venues, most of which are not buffets. This means that while some modifications were required , most outlets remain the same with à la carte service. Diners can choose between a raw and sushi bar, poolside burger stand, spa café with custom smoothies, steakhouse, Michelin-starred menu at Eden, and Le Petit Chef, a French bistro with 3D entertainment displayed on the table.

Oceanview Café is not your typical buffet, with many dishes prepared à la minute, like meat grilled to order and choose-your-own stir fries. Otherwise, staff serve guests from behind Plexiglass barriers. A pizza oven near the back patio of the ship is particularly popular. The new served buffet concept also significantly reduces food waste, which is a welcome change.

Notably, Apex exchanged its main dining room for four smaller restaurants, all of which are complimentary. Opulently designed, they have diverse menus that include Italian, Mediterranean, and French dishes, which adds variety for cruisers. Who could say no to escargot and French onion soup one night, and sizzling steaks the next?

The stunning three-story Chandelier, che si eleva dal fino al soffitto. The lightning of this seven tonne artwork changes from day to night thanks to their 765 led lights. In the 480 square meters of the Grand Plaza you may stop for a drink or to eat at some of the specialty restaurants.

One of the highlights of the ship is the SPA, a 2,000-square-meter space inspired by the Sea concept. Thanks to a collaboration with leading brands of the wellness industry, it offers more than 124 different treatments, including exclusive zero-gravity massages.

The Layout Of The Infinite Veranda Stateroom

Over the course of the week, we began to realize where all that extra space was hiding.

We appreciated the extra storage and counter space. The loveseat and desk area also felt larger. However, you might not feel the difference from a maneuverability standpoint.

Our room was set up with the bed closer to the door, while the sofa and desk were closer to the balcony. We actually prefer this layout.

All of the Infinite Veranda rooms on Celebrity Edge are fitted with a king bed featuring Celebrity eXhale bedding and cashmere mattresses. These beds are a serious upgrade from the typical cruise ship cabin and a welcomed bonus in terms of comfort.

How Many Passengers Are Vaccinated

While all crew members are vaccinated, Fain said the company won’t enforce vaccines among passengers leaving from a Florida port.

While the CDC had told cruise lines that they would need 95% of passengers and 95% of crew vaccinated in order to skip test sailings, the mandate contradicted a Florida state law banning businesses from requiring proof of vaccination.

According to Celebrity’s website, for cruises departing from ports outside of Florida, all passengers age 16 and older will still be required to be fully vaccinated. Starting Aug. 1, that age drops to 12.

On Friday, Fain told Yahoo Finance that he appreciates the work Florida Gov. DeSantis has done to advocate for the cruise industry, and added that the company will try and talk into a vaccination.

We recommend that people take vaccinations, and we really encourage it, but we do accept that there are some who dont, some children who cant get vaccines, Fain said. We will manage the process so that we will make sure we never go too far with unvaccinated people, and if necessary well close down a cruise. But we think thats all workable.

Finally, the staterooms: Infinite Veranda erase the boundary between indoors and out. With just one button the glass window opens automatically and your entire living space becomes the veranda. The Technology In Celebrity Edge Staterooms

Where the infinite veranda was a letdown, the technology upgrades were better than expected. There were several power and USB outlets in the room. There were outlets near the bed which were great for charging phones at night. On the desk, there was an outlet hub, with USB, US, and European outlets.

The digital display screen near the door worked efficiently. It could be used to adjust the lights, the room temperature, and to open the blinds on the infinite veranda.

The Celebrity smartphone app also functioned without hiccups. We were able to access our stateroom door with a swipe of our device as well as control the other in-room features. Controlling the lighting and blinds without having to get out of bed in the morning was great, even if it made us a bit lazy.

Of course, the app also included the typical features like show times, your daily schedule, and the ability to make reservations.

From Its Deck Plan To The Magic Carpet Celebrity Edge Stays True To Its Name

The draw of Celebrity Edge is within its name: It’s edgy. The Celebrity Edge deck plan focuses on entertainment and maximizes views over the surrounding landscape. Entertainment in the theater is loud and influenced by today’s top hits. The cocktails you’ll find in the ship’s three-deck spiraling restaurant/lounge/theater called Eden are mind-bendingly one-of-a-kind, and enjoyed while performance artists wander around, drawing people into the show. The Rooftop Garden on the top deck combines the best of Celebritys Millennium-class and Solstice-class designs, with a stage for live bands and metallic trees for performers to perch in.

Celebrity Edge didn’t just revolutionize entertainment. The ship has turned tendering — that often unpleasant experience where you have to board a small boat to get to a port — into an infinitely more pleasant experience. The Magic Carpet is a tennis court-sized moveable deck, kitted out with an open-air lounge and bar. From there, it’s a breeze to get onto the tenders, or you can stay to get a drink and watch others get on and off — talk about people-watching. It’s somewhere people actually want to go, rather than escape.

Is Hawaii Allowing Cruise Ships To Dock

    Celebrity Cruises

As long as the cruise line follows specific protocols, such as requiring that all vessels carrying COVID-19 test for compatibility with the cruise liner, and providing a dedicated medical staff trained to handle a potential outbreak onboard, Hawaii plans to provide permission for ships to dock at designated ports there once again.

Celebrity Edge Dining Reservations Make Mealtimes Easy

Cruisers can choose traditional set dining, where diners will be assigned to an early or late seating in the Cosmopolitan Restaurant and eat at the same table every night. Cruisers with Celebrity Select, meanwhile, can eat at any of the four main dining rooms for dinner whenever they want, either by showing up at the door or making reservations ahead of time.

We thought the food in the main dining rooms punched above its weight, but we still found the food in the upcharge dining venues to be better than what was included. Overall, Celebrity Edge menus offer quality dishes and something for everyone.

Service in all of the restaurants was excellent, and we were especially impressed by the intuitive sommelier service when we ate in Cosmopolitan — spotting we had opted for duck, he swapped out our cabernet sauvignon for a much better pairing of pinot noir.

Recap Of Celebrity Edge Infinite Veranda Review

Introducing The Spa Tour on Celebrity Edge | Celebrity Cruises

Overall, our week-long cruise in the Celebrity Edge Infinite Veranda was comfortable and a step above the fleets standard balcony rooms.

Once we uncovered some of the hidden storage areas, we had no problems storing all of our clothes and other belongings nicely in the room. The bed and furniture were functional, stylish, and comfortable, especially after our long days ashore. The upgrade in bathroom size was also another perk of this cabin.

If you are looking for a more open concept to your room, the infinite veranda might be a nice fit for you. Personally, we would opt for a traditional balcony in the future though given the more restricted nature of the actual balcony component in this stateroom category.

Will I End Up Waiting For A Table

In our experience, we never had to wait for a table, whether we had a reservation or not . At most, there were usually two or three parties ahead of us, so it only took a few minutes to be checked in and escorted to a table.

We did typically dine earlier in the evening, so we can not speak for later in the evening.

We did see pagers given out on occasion though. While we were not clocking them, we would say that they didnt wait more than about 20 minutes. And, this was at peak dining time, around 7:30 pm, on the second Evening Chic night .

Of course, there is the potential that you might have to wait if you go during peak hours. Though, the wait should be minimal in our experience. This was a welcomed surprise, given Royal Caribbeans failed attempt at Dynamic Dining.

    Inside Cabins On Celebrity Ships

Inside cabins on Celebrity ships run anywhere from 170 to 202 square feet, and they offer everything mentioned above. The one thing they dont have is a view.

As is implied by their name, they have no windows and no balconies for natural light or fresh air. These are stellar options for anyone on a budget or travelers who have trouble sleeping with any sort of light.

Celebrity Silhouette has four inside cabins available for solo travelers.
