Cruise Vacations Booking Up Quickly As Many Virginians Prepare To Set Sail

NORFOLK, Va. Cruise lines are making a big splash to attract families like Jessica Adkins, who are ready to set sail.

We are actually taking our daughters on their first Disney Cruise, said Adkins, a mother of two.

Many ships are cruising once again after more than a year of being docked because of COVID-19.

Though people wont be able to sail out of Norfolks Half Moon port until May 2022, AAA said theyre already booking voyages departing from there.

AAA Director of Public Affairs Holly Dalby said the agency has seen a daily increase in travel bookings since April after COVID-19 restrictions eased and more people got vaccinated.

First, you have the people that had cruises canceled last year in 2020, and they’re starting to take advantage of that rebooking option that they were given, she said. Then, you have people that maybe didn’t have a trip planned, but they are just dying to get out of town and go somewhere.

If you are planning a trip, Dalby said plan ahead because cruises are booking up quickly.

If people have any flexibility on when they can travel, or even the destinations that they want to go to, they probably will have an easier time finding a cruise right now, she said.

At one point, cruise ships were requiring proof of vaccination to board. According to AAA, unvaccinated travelers typically have additional protocols, and having a travel agent might be best to help navigate the ever-changing rules.

Get On Board The #1 Tour In Norfolk Per Tripadvisor

From the very first we were impressed with the professional and courteous crew members of the Victory Rover. Every one of them was extremely nice and very helpful during the tour. The boat was very clean and almost continuously throughout our time on the boat we observed at least one crew member wiping down railings and door knobs, etc. The tour narrator , was extremely knowledgeable. The boat was set up and managed to keep passengers at social distance at all times.

Loved this cruise! Makes you appreciate the might of the American Navy! Being from landlocked Ohio I never get to see anything from the Navy so this was amazing. Loved the narrative and the obvious pride in what the American Navy stands for. Saw some dolphins which were a bonus! Spent time in the museum afterward. The cruise ship has a little snack bar and a few gift items. Buy a t-shirt and support them. Totally recommend this cruise!

An old Navy friend visited me and we decided to take this cruise.it was a great decision. The guide was unbelievably knowledgable, not only of the area but about all the ships we passed by as well. The surprising part for me was the fact that, even though I have lived here for many years, I was amazed by how much I learned about our area. I would recommend it to residents of this area and visitors alike.

Set Sail With Our Friendly And Experienced Crew In Norfolk Va

Newly renovated Carnival Sunrise to depart from Norfolk

I imagine a lot depends on how the weather is, but we lucked out. It was calm , and the skies were clear. Not too hot either. We got to experience a perfect sunset, and even got a bonus moonrise out of the deal! The ship’s Captain was great and explained everything as we were sailing. As it got to sunset time, a musician entertained the ship by walking around and taking requests. It was fun all around and everyone seemed to enjoy it.

I have been on this cruise four times now. It is great! The crew is friendly and knowledgeable. The boat is extremely clean and very comfortable. There are two very clean bathrooms onboard. They sell adult drinks, sodas, and snacks. Also, there is a musician that walks around singing and playing the guitar. He plays fun sing-along songs by a variety of artists. This cruise is my favorite thing to do in Norfolk!!! I will be back for a fifth time later this summer!!

This was probably a highlight for me, I absolutely loved it and told my husband I couldnt wait to go again. The captain gave a wonderful tour and for couples wanting to experience a romantic evening, this is very romantic, watching the sunset was just beautiful. I highly recommend it, you won’t be sorry!

This was a great way to entertain the family. We enjoyed drinks, musician and the narrative from the captain. The night was warm with a slight breeze and the sunset even cooperated. It was a peaceful and relaxing time.

Ready To Set Sail Carnival Keeps Cruise Deal With Norfolk Trips Begin In 2022

Norfolk looks at improving cruise ship terminal to accommodate larger ships

NORFOLK, Va. People are taking to the skies, but not setting sail just yet. The CDC still has a conditional sail order in the United States.

But there is hope on the horizon!;

The deal with Carnival Cruise Line and the City of Norfolk is still on. Carnivals president joined Hampton Roads business leaders Thursday to let them know bookings for next year are taking off!

2020 was stormy for the cruise industry and the 757.

A huge economic hit for this region, said Nauticus Executive Director Stephen Kirkland.

Major U.S cruise lines last set sail in March 2020. Kirkland said Norfolk missed out on 70 cruise ships.

Forty in 2020 and 30 this year, Kirkland said.

The Half Moone Cruise Center might sit empty for a few more months. Kirkland said they dont expect any cruise ships in 2021 but have bookings for 2022. ;

In February 2020, Carnival committed ships to sail from the Mermaid City through 2025. Kirkland said the deal stands.

Carnival is committed to Norfolk, Kirkland said. We are committed to Carnival.

Carnival President Christine Duffy updated local business leaders. The company is urging the CDC to lift restrictions.

To address where we are today and how we can get the cruise industry sailing from the U.S. in time for summer, Duffy said.

Sailing will likely start slow, with smaller capacities. However, 2022 is filling fast.

Our booking pace is better for 2022 than it was in 2019, Duffy said. 2019 was one of our best years.
