I would love to see a Disney Hawaii cruise. I bet it will happen once the new ships are built – they’ll put one of the older ones on a Hawaii itinerary. Especially with Aulani, it would be shocking if they didn’t!
New Vacation Operation Unit
In February 2009, Tom McAlpin left the Disney Cruise Line presidency and was replaced by Karl Holz as president of Disney Cruise Line and New Vacation Operations. In early 2009, Disney and Canaveral Port Authority extended their agreement to 2022 with expansion to the terminal to handle the new class of ships. A re-posting of the Disney Magic to Europe in 2010 adding DCL’s first North European cruises with Mediterranean cruises.
With the arrival of Disney Dream in 2011, Disney Wonder was relocated to Los Angeles. With the arrival of Disney Fantasy in 2012, Disney Magic was relocated to New York City in May 2012 for only the Summer season, before relocating to Galveston, Texas.
In late 2012, Disney Wonder began sailing cruises out of Miami, Florida, respectively. In 2013, the Disney Magic relocated to Barcelona, Spain and the Disney Wonder relocated to Vancouver, British Columbia. for the summer season. In Autumn 2013, the Magic and the Wonder returned to the United States but switched home ports, with the Magic leaving out of Miami and the Wonder leaving out of Galveston. In January 2014, the Wonder took over for the Magic in Miami and the Magic joined the Dream and Fantasy in Port Canaveral, placing all four ships in the state of Florida for the first time. Since then, the Magic and the Wonder have once again switched places.
Disney Magic Early 2022 Sailings
The Disney Magic will start 2022 where she left off, in Miami on January 3, 2022 offering a mix of 3-,4-,5-night Bahamian cruises and 5-night Western Caribbean cruises. The Magics 2022 Eastbound Transatlantic voyage was not included in this release, but you could possibly pencil it in for May 8, 2022.

It takes between 2 3 weeks to sail to Hawaii. During the last Transpac race, the fastest monohull made the crossing in 5 days and 2 hours. The slowest boat, a 48 sailing cruising took nearly 16 days. However, the average recreational sailor, cruising at the average speed will more likely take 14 days.

Holland Cruises And Princess Cruises
Holland America Line offers many different types of cruises from the mainland to Hawaii. You can pretty much pick your poison from the incredible array of exciting and soothing luxury trips. Opt for Hollandâs 18-day round trip cruise leaving from San Diego, or make that a 25-day cruise and add in stops in Mexico. If you prefer to leave from Seattle, take the 18-day round trip from Seattle. From Vancouver, take the 16 or 17-day round trip cruise.
Princess Cruises offers a 15-day circle cruise from San Francisco that stops in the same Hawaii ports as the other cruise lines, then circles to Ensenada, Mexico before returning to home port. Another Princess Cruise makes the same circle tour leaving from Los Angeles, and another leaves from Vancouver.

Do You Have A Big Family Or Need More Space
If you have more than two kids, you are probably already used to the challenge of standard hotel rooms. Most of them are built for four. Upgrading to larger accommodations or even booking two rooms brings major increased costs.
Disney Cruise cabins are a tight squeeze even for a family of 4, but bigger families will require even more.
Big families will likely find that both Aulani and Disney Cruise Line present the usual challenges. As you can probably imagine, space is a little easier to come by on land than on sea. Larger suites and condos are ultimately available at Aulani.
Aulani has some more flexible options for larger families because of its abundance of Disney Vacation Club villas . One bedroom villas sleep up to 5 people. Families of 6 or more will need to upgrade to the two or three bedroom villas. To be sure, these premium rooms do not come cheap. But the villas have full kitchens and washer/dryers that make them very convenient for larger families.

How To Estimate The Duration
There are multiple factors that determine the duration of the trip. The most obvious are wind speed and direction. Others are navigational skills of the skipper, boat type and length, and preparation. Breakdowns cost a lot of time, so a well-prepared boat will get there faster.
The direct distance from San Diego to Hawaii is 2,269 NM. But if you want to have a nice sailing experience you should probably try to get your sail in front of the eastward trade winds.
To make use of the trade winds, you have to first sail south. The trade winds only pick up until youâre roughly 600 miles west of California. Once you pick up the trade winds, itâs a great off-the-wind trip.
The crossing from the Californian coast to Hawaii is one of the longest ocean passages without any land nearby. Good to know before you go.
Letâs say you sail a mid-sized boat of about 30-36â² . The average cruising speed of these types of boats is about 6-8 knots. We sail 18 hours a day, at â letâs be conservative here â 6 knots.
Please note: I wouldnât recommend any boat under 28â². A longer boat tends to be more stable, which really helps a lot with handling, but also just with overall fun.
In ideal conditions, it would take us 9 days, 15 hours.
/ 60 = 7,22To account for 18 / 24 hours a day7,22 / 0,75 = 9 days and 15 hours
So how long would it take us in less than ideal conditions? Letâs say we sail on average 4 knots . It would take us 14 days, 11 hours.

The Faroe Islands Cruise Boycott
In 2014, Disney was the first of all three cruise ship companies that banned Faroe Islands as destination part of their North European itineraries.
The boycott is due to the island nation’s traditional mass slaughter of pilot whales each year. The protected by Denmark gruesome practice of killing whales is called âGrindadrap Grind”. Locals use motorboats to drive a pod of whales into a harbor. The defenseless animals are dragged to the shallow water and brutally slaughtered by locals armed with knives while their families cheer them on. The killing party even rip out baby whales from their mothers.
The Faroe Islands have a population of ~50,000 and kill each year 1000+ pilot whales. You can see the cruise ship schedule of Torshavn – Faroe’s most visited port. All cruise lines with scheduled visits to the Faroes are accused of supporting the brutal whaling practices. Whaling is still officially approved and carried out by the “civilized” countries Japan, Norway, and Iceland, killing over 2000 whales each year and trading in whale products.
Disney’s response was to the “Faroese Pilot Whaling Act” by the local government, which continues to allow pilot whales to be culled or massacred. It also empowers local authorities to imprison people found guilty of impeding these whaling activities – despite all the international condemnations.

Disney Private Island Castaway Cay
Castaway Cay is a Bahamian private island leased by Disney Cruises. It serves as an exclusive port of call for Disney ships. Castaway Cay is located close to Great Abaco Island. In 1997, Walt Disney Company bought a 99-year island lease from the Bahamian Government , giving the company substantial control over the cruise ship passenger experience on the island.
In early August 2017 was announced that Disney is looking to buy a second Caribbean private island to be developed as an exclusive port of call for the company’s new cruise ships. The reason for a new private island destination is that Castaway Cay has the capacity to handle ships with capacity up to 875 cabins, otherwise it becomes too crowded. Such a “private island” option emerged in 2016 with Egg Island . However, those plans were abolished after some environmental studies showing that the island’s ecosystem would not sustain the planned development.
