Check Engine Light Traction Control Light And Cruse Control

Zgame200 said:Hello all, So recently, my car has been having some issues with when the tank hits half way. When ever I have a half a tank left, my check engine light, traction control light, and my cruse control light all go on. The car then seams to drive funny , but when I fill up the tank, the lights go away. My car is a Subaru Crosstrek 2014 2.0L Limited and has about 3400 miles. If anyone else has had this issue, please let me know. Thank you!

Aimtomiss_Polli said:This happened to us on our cross country drive, dealer said it was the oil control valves as well. They didn’t have the part so swapped them from side to side, fixed the issue so far … 9k miles later still hasn’t happened again.

Will Installing A Reverse Camera On The Subaru Outback Affect The Cruise And Abs Control Since They Operate On The Same Fuse

The cruise control and ABS should continue working fine if the camera is connected through the reversing bulb wire. That is because it is drawing only a negligible amperage since it is just a signal wire. The bulb wire should not power the camera as it is meant just for communicating that the vehicle is in reverse.

Cruise Control And Break Issues

product

So got my wrangler finally yesterday and just a couple of small things I noticed.1. Keyless entry doesnt work Think I may just try to reset with the door.2. Cruise Control doesnt work3. Brake light always on but no problem with actual break.Any suggestions or similar issues with some of these things?

michail said:Thats a new one. Id try the always recommended make sure the fuses are all pushed in check. Seems to the reason for most odd things on new Wranglers. The brake light is probably why no cruise control. Might even be related to keyless entry .

willbslippen said:Dealership checked it out and found that some of the problems were because that feature was disabled assuming for dealership use. They reset the computer and everything seems to work fine now. So that good to know that no mechanical issues just computer and reset to enable those features.

Subaru Faq # 3 My Check Engine Light Came On And Or My Cruise Control Light Is Flashing Can I Drive My Subaru

Q. My check engine light came on and or my Cruise control light is flashing, is My Subaru ok to drive?

A. The check engine light can come on for one of many reasons, as such there is really no way to know if its for a loose gas cap or something much more serious without at a minimum a code scan. Starting in 2005 Subaru commanded the Cruise light to flash as well as disabling the cruise control to get your attention. As long as the light is on steady and there is no apparent change in the way your Subaru is performing its most likely ok to drive however we suggest contacting us through email at or if you prefer calling us 425 828 3600 and trying to get it in as soon as you can. If the check engine light were to begin flashing that is an indication that the engine is misfiring and really should not be driven and rather should be towed to our repair facility. This may also be a good time to consider purchasing a Code Scanner to keep in your glove box for just these type of situations, if you are able to scan it yourself you could contact us with a code number and we will be in a better position to help you.

Can I Reset Cel By Disconnecting The Battery

You may have been told to disconnect the battery negative terminal to turn off the Subaru check engine light for a few minutes.

While this procedure will turn off your Subaru check engine light, it is not recommended because it clears codes that help diagnostics.

Also, disconnecting the battery does not fix the problem. Sure your check engine light will reset, but if no codes are still active, the light will reset within two to three daysno need to disconnect the battery.

Also, remember that your Subaru check engine light will return if the problem hasnt been fixed. If you recently disconnected the battery or cleared the codes with an OBD2 scanner, you will not pass a state emission test. Fix the underlying problem, then drive the car for a few days before taking your Subaru for a smog test.

Adaptive Cruise Control: What Is It And How Does It Work

When carmakers pitched cruise control to the American public more than half a century ago, they framed it as a way to maintain a safe, consistent speed on the highway and a path to conserving fuel. Although the fuel savings were minimal, both claims were accurate.

Simple to use, all you need to do is turn on the system in your vehicle, reach your desired cruising speed, and set it. The system then assumes control of the accelerator, maintaining the set speed until the driver engages the brake. Easy peasy.

Automotive engineers tweaked around the edges of cruise control for the next 35 years. However, cruise control didnt evolve much beyond the first system that found its way into the 1958 Chrysler Imperial.

In essence, not only did the 1999 S-Class introduce the driver-aid technology adaptive cruise control , but it also set the cornerstone of the foundation for self-driving vehicles.

Cruise control is still the more prolific of speed controls offered on todays new cars, but adaptive cruise control has started gaining ground. More car models provide it as standard or as an available option. But, what exactly is adaptive cruise control, and how does it work? Lets see.

Issues With The Catalytic Converter

2015 Subaru WRX Check Engine light with Flashing Cruise control FIXED

Problems with a vehicles powertrain can be serious and lead to expensive repair work. To avoid issues with the catalytic converter going unnoticed, many Subaru models will alert drivers to any problems by illuminating the check engine light or flashing the cruise control light.

Drivers will need to visit a mechanic if the catalytic converter in their Subaru is failing. A malfunctioning catalytic converter can be caused by issues with the oxygen sensor, check valve, fuel injector, or the wrong fuel in the engine.

A mechanic can run diagnostics to find out why the catalytic converter isnt working as it should. Once the problem is resolved, the cruise control light should stop flashing.

Adaptive Cruise Control Problem Of The 2011 Jeep Wrangler

While travelling country road cruising at approximately 65 mph the message indicator went ding and the check engine light began flashing. I turned on flashers, slowed down and found a commercial driveway into which I could exit and stop off roadway. After turning off ignition I immediately raised the hood and found active fire to the rear of the intake manifold and forward of the firewall where the wiring harness is located. I instructed my passenger to immediately exit the vehicle. I had bottles of drinking water with us so I took three or four bottles of water and extinguished the flames from both sides of the upper engine. The flames were immediately extinguished indicating no presence of petroleum products fueling the flames. After ensuring that fire was fully extinguished I called a local towing service to come pick us up and drop the Jeep at a local napa repair shop. Shop located and ordered a new wiring harness as opposed to trying to repair existing harness. May file a claim with auto insurance after repairs are made.

Why Is The Subaru Outbacks Speed Surging When The Cruise Control Is Set

This could be a problem with one of the wheel speed sensors which could be reading differently from the others. To confirm if this is the problem, the Subaru should be connected to an advanced scan tool and all the wheel speed sensors should be monitored to check if a different signal is being registered. If it is, then the affected sensor needs to be replaced to ensure it reads similar to the others.

What Could Cause The Cruise Control Light To Flash Along With An Illuminated Check Engine Light On The Subaru

There may be no cause to worry if the cruise control light is flashing. This is meant to occur when the check engine light comes on because the system goes into a fail-safe mode. Subaru has this built in the system to prevent possible issues with the electronic throttle that can make the car accelerate on its own. The cruise control depends on the engine control module for data which will not function until the check engine light issue is resolved. The problem could have been triggered because of the ignition coil or spark plugs, especially if the weather is wet. In order to confirm where the problem lies, the Subaru needs to be scanned for codes. In case the engine is running normally, it is safe to drive the Subaru with the light on however, the cruise control will not work.

What Does The Subaru Check Engine Light Mean

When a Subaru On-Board Diagnostic detects a problem with the engine, emission system, or transmission, it triggers the check engine light. The OBD system then stores a fault code in the memory, which you can retrieve with an OBD-II scanner.

The Subaru check engine light is sometimes accompanied by a flashing Cruise Control or Vehicle Dynamics Control light. It doesnt mean that there is a problem with these systems. It simply means that they are disabled due to the engine problem.

Is It Safe To Drive With Cruise Control Light Flashing

When your cruise control light starts to flash, but everything else is working perfectly, it is safe to continue driving your vehicle as long as you dont activate the cruise system.

When a fault is detected, it primarily affects the cruise control system only. However, some defects can sometimes cause problems with other vehicle driving systems.

For instance, a falling brake switch will not light up the brake lights when you press the brake pedal to alert those driving behind you, which increases the probability of collision. It is always recommended to take the car for a check-up to fix any problems and avoid risk.

What Causes Cruise Control To Kick Off

If there are any issues within your vehicles mechanical systems, the cruise control may automatically turn off.

Common issues leading to the cruise control switching off include problems with the ABS or throttle. A blown fuse or a faulty brake pedal switch can also cause the cruise control to turn off automatically.

The Catalytic Converter Is Failing

The Subaru models have been designed to alert you whenever there is a problem with the powertrain system.

Therefore, a failing catalytic convertor usually makes the cruise control light flash. In most cases, this light is accompanied by a check engine light coming on.

Many things can make the catalytic converter fail. They include a failing fuel injector, wrong fuel mixture, a problem with the check valve, an issue with the oxygen sensor, etc.

So, it would be best to diagnose the exact problem first before deciding to replace or repair it.

How To Diagnose Your Subaru Using A Code Reader

calmeidadesigner: Subaru Check Engine Light Cruise Control And Brake ...

Investing in an OBD2 code reader is never a bad choice. The tool will tell the Diagnostic Trouble Code , which indicates your car problems. Most of the time, fixing these DTCs is quite simple. But sometimes, you still have to bring the car to a repair shop.

The problem is that some mechanics might exaggerate problems with your vehicle in the hopes of making more money. In that case, a code reader can help you identify the real issues and avoid being ripped off by mechanics.

Whether youve got an Outback, Legacy, or any other Subaru model, these OBD2 code readers can totally work for your car.
