What Cruise Lines Offer Single Cabins

Norwegian Cruise Lines Studio Cabins

Solo Balcony Cabin Tour – P& O Britannia Cruise Ship

Norwegian was a forerunner in the solo accommodation space, introducing its studio cabins on Norwegian Epic in 2010. The rooms are on the small side at just 100 square feet. Theyre also insides , but theyre great if youre not planning to spend much time in your room.

Whats unique about NCLs studios is that they allow occupants access to the studio lounge, where they can meet other cruisers sailing alone and partake in daily snacks. Studio cabins are available on Norwegian Epic, Norwegian Breakaway, Norwegian Getaway, Norwegian Escape, Norwegian Bliss and Pride of America.

Celebritys Infinite Veranda Solo Rooms

Cruisers looking for a little bit more space on a line that falls somewhere between Royal Caribbean and Oceania will have luck with Celebrity Cruises Infinite Veranda solo cabins. Unlike traditional balconies, Infinite Verandas extend the overall square footage of the cabin, featuring a window that raises and lowers with the push of a button.

Passengers can find 16 of these 131-square-foot staterooms on Celebrity Edge and 24 on Celebrity Apex.

How Much Will I Pay For A Singles Cruise

As a solo traveler its going to be hard to find anywhere that is going to be half the cost of what a couple has to pay, as you will either have to pay for one of the limited numbers of studio cabins, pay a single supplement charge or go through a company that will offer singles cruises.

For those that dont know, the single supplement is standard in the travel industry and is the expectation that a solo traveler will pay the same price for a double room as a couple would. This means that many rooms will be double the price which can restrict solo travelers to only a certain amount of cruises, unless they want to pay excessive fees.

Some companies like Norwegian Cruise Line will offer reduced rates on their single supplements when it comes to their regular rooms but you will find that if you wanted your own double cabin, the vast majority of cruise liners are going to expect you to pay a very hefty fee in order to board the ship.

The single cabins that are available on these ships are reasonably priced with the downside being that you are often limited for choice on the type of rooms that are available when compared to couples. The studios are going to be smaller rooms and are usually situated on the inside of the ship and therefore you dont have the option of paying a little extra for a balcony.

Solo travel is on the rise, and that includes solo cruising.

Choosing a cruising holiday for a solo adventure also brings with it perks that a land holiday doesnt. First of all, you wont be trying to navigate a new city or place completely by yourself. Youll have excursions, your transport is taken care of and youll easily meet other solo travellers on board. Secondly, many cruise lines now offer group activities for solo travellers, from dance classes to evening meals.

What Do You Want Out Of Your Singles Cruise

Before looking at various websites for different companies you need to ask yourself what you are planning to get out of your cruise vacation. For the solo traveler, there are many different types of vacations you can have onboard a ship but it depends on what you want.

If you are looking to meet fellow singles then you would ideally look for a solo cruise or at least a cruise liner that will have singles events. This will give you the opportunity to meet new people and have a great laugh in the process.

It could be though, that you simply want to relax and have some me time to yourself for a week or more. If this is you then you would simply look for a company that has solo cabins or reduced single supplements and not care about any singles events.

The reason this is important is that it will change the type of cruises that are available to you. Cruises for singles are rarer and sell out quickly and so do single cabins on more regular cruise lines. Its up to you to choose which type of break youd prefer.

    Rolling On A River Cruise

Solo Balcony Cabin – Anthem of the Seas Cruise Ship

If cruising the blue Danube, pausing in Prague on the Elbe or capturing images of castles on the Rhine are more your calling than ocean voyages, consider a solo journey that takes you to the heart of the cities on Europe’s glorious rivers. Single supplements are waived on a good number of departures, with socializing facilitated by leading cruise operators such as Grand Circle Cruise Line, Uniworld, Tauck, AmaWaterways and Avalon Waterways. Whether you’re looking for a foursome for an after-dinner bridge game or a partner for exploring Venice’s Rialto Bridge, camaraderie on river cruises is sharply in focus these days. After all, as Tauck points out, your trip director is not only in the know about the itinerary’s destinations, but is a professional solo traveler, too. Check carefully on whether the offer is for a single supplement waiver, a cabin purpose-built for one or a roommate matching service.

This Luxury Cruise Line Adds Solo Cabins To Its Fleet And They Come With Balconies

The single-occupancy cabins will make their debut in 2023.

Going on a cruise as a solo traveler typically means paying a supplemental fee to make up for occupying a cabin meant for at least two people. But in recent years, several major cruise lines have done away with that practice by adding cabins specifically designed for a party of one.

The latest company to join the trend is Oceania Cruises, a luxury line offering sailings around the world.

When Oceania’s newest vessel, Vista, makes its debut in 2023, it will feature six cabins for travelers embarking on the ship themselves, according to a press release. This marks the first time in Oceania’s nearly 20-year history that the company will add this type of cabin to its fleet.

Referred to by the cruise line as “spacious and airy yet cozy,” these single staterooms will measure 270 square feet, and like every other cabin aboard the Vista, they’ll even feature a private balcony. They’ll also offer a Tranquility memory foam bed, a seating area that overlooks the private balcony, and plenty of storage space.

Thanks to its categorization as a Concierge Level Veranda Stateroom, cruisers in these single-occupancy cabins will also have access to Oceania’s Concierge Level amenities. These extra perks and services include free laundry service, room service from the dining room menu, exclusive keycard-only access to the dedicated Concierge Lounge, priority embarkation, a complimentary bottle of Champagne, and more.

Is A Single Cruise Cabin Good Value Tips For Booking Cruises With Single Cabins

The higher costs associated with travelling alone is one of the reported key concerns of solo travellers. To help reduce this unfair solo travel tax, it is worth considering a single cabin as a solo traveller, but it is not your only option.

First and foremost, dont expect the price of a single cabin to be half that of a regular cabin.

As a general rule of thumb, expect your fare to be 125 to 160% more than that of someone who is sharing an equivalent cabin class. However, this may still be a good deal compared to typical cruise single occupancy supplements of between 125 and 200 per cent.

When you are planning a cruise, it pays to book as early as possible and this more important is you are looking for a single room. Single cruise cabins are limited and coveted by solo travellers. Therefore, they can get booked up quickly. If you have your heart set on a single cabin, dont delay.

It pays to compare the cost of a single cabin to that of sole occupancy of an equivalent cabin.

You may find that there is not much of a difference and the regular cabin is in a better location. As it is impossible to provide a general comparison between the prices of single cabins and sole occupancy of regular ones, you will need to do this on a case-by-case basis.

Ill give you a real-life example. When I did my Norway fjords cruise on MS Britannia as a solo traveller in 2018, I booked a regular balcony cabin.
