Royal Caribbean Cruises Set Sail From Cape Liberty Again The Oasis Of The Seas Has Resumed Weekly Cruises To The Bahamas

Cruise Ship Docked In Bayonne Over Coronavirus Concerns Still Not Cleared To Set Sail

Royal Caribbean has resumed cruises out of the Cape Liberty Cruise Port in Bayonne.

The first ship sailed out of Bayonne on Sept. 5. Cruises out of the port had been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, weekly offerings are again available for booking. Seven-night cruises on the Oasis of the Seas are offered out of the port from now until the end of October.

The company announced its schedule for its remaining ships to return to sailing in early August, including the Oasis. All other ships are set to resume sailing by 2022, following Royal Caribbeans relaunch of cruises in Asia, Europe and other parts of the United States.

Prior to setting sail from Cape Liberty, the Oasis had to complete a simulated cruise in late August. After it finished the voyage on Sept. 3, Royal Caribbean announced the Oasis had received the green light from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to set sail regularly again.

Since the start of the Coronavirus emergency in 2020, the cruise ship industry and public agencies have developed procedures to respond to any health emergencies that might arise on ships at sea, Bayonne Mayor James Davis said. Protocols are in place that would kick in for illnesses that might develop on vessels that ship in and out of the Cape Liberty Cruise Port.

The Big Apple can be reached by the PATH subway system, the bus system, or the Staten Island Ferry. NYC has so much to offer that you certainly wont be able to fit it all in one day. If you want a quick overview of the major attractions and some great photo opportunities, we suggest a sightseeing tour on one of the many hop on hop off bus tours. We took one of these tours last year during one of our trips to the city. With the flexibility of hopping on and off at multiple locations and different route options, you can choose to simply stay on the bus or customize the experience as much as you like. If you will be arriving later in the day, NYC also offers an extensive night life with plenty of bars, restaurants, and experiences. We suggest trying to take in a Broadway show.

Information About The Cruise Terminal

In its first year alone, Cape Liberty saw well over 200,000 passengers safely through its gates. In 2016 they hit a record high of 509,306 passengers. As the port continues to grow, they plan on seeing that number rise even higher in the years to come.

A few good things to consider when visiting Bayonne for your cruise:

  • Bayonnes sole purpose is the home of the Cape Liberty Cruise Port and does not offer much tourism opportunities.
  • To satisfy your inner tourist, Hoboken, NJ and Manhattan arent that far from Cape Liberty. You can easily take a cab and tour the cities nearby.
  • The terminal is in a remote location, so walking anywhere to or from the terminal is not an option. The only facilities youll find at the port are free Wi-Fi and restrooms.

Flying To New York/new Jersey

There are three major airports serving the New York/New Jersey area: Newark , La Guardia , and John F. Kennedy International Airports.

The easiest option is Newark, because it is located just 10 miles to the west of the port. Without traffic, it is a short 20 minute car ride to the cruise port.

The other New York airports will require a longer commute to the port, as well as additional tolls to cross bridges over to New Jersey. Depending on traffic conditions, the trip can take an hour or longer.

The simplest way to get to the port is by car service. Lyft, Uber, or taxis are all available to take you from any of the airports to the cruise terminal.

Public transportation will only get you part of the way there, and the final segment of the trip will rely on private car. For that reason, I recommend simply booking a ride sharing service or taxi, and going directly to the port.

Distance From The Caribbean

Considering that themajority of the cruises leaving from New Jersey sail to the Caribbean, itsvery far away from your most likely cruise destination. That means that youlleither have to take a very long cruise, which costs a lot more, or youll haveto be satisfied with spending very little time in your destination, and themajority of the cruise spent on the ship, at sea.

Cruise ships are fullof entertainment and dining options, so thats not such a terrible thing. Butwhen you pay for a Caribbean cruise, you might want to spend more than one daythere. Especially if you live in the northeast and youre cruising to theCaribbean to get away from the dreary winter weather.

In contrast, thecruise ports in Florida and along the Gulf Coast are very close to theirCaribbean or Bahamian destinations, and youll get to spend a lot more timeactually enjoying the tropical beaches. Yes, youll have to fly down there toboard the cruise, but it just might be worth it.
