What Look To Expect On The Major Cruise Lines

Oceania Cruises: 7 Things You Need To Know Before Cruising

Here’s our take on how to match your Fashion IQ with the following cruise lines. We’d love to hear what your experience has been, so please weigh in below in the comments!

Carnival Cruise Line

Carnival’s dress code is all about casual. You’ll see T-shirts, sandals and tank tops around the ship by day, while at dinnertime you can’t go wrong with slacks or jeans and a short-sleeve shirt for the guys and a nice blouse, skirt or pants and flat shoes for the women. The rule is no cut-offs or swimwear during dinner, thankfully.

Celebrity Cruises

Casual by day, resort chic at night. The line also has formal nights but leaves the option up to the passengers if they want to wear a tuxedo or not. Many women like to doll up a bit and some men will do the same. Almost all cruise lines that offer formal nights no longer make it mandatory to wear a tux, of course.

Costa Cruises

Casual by day, not overly dressy at night.

Crystal Cruises

Stylish resort wear by day, elegant by night. Men can get away with a dark suit, though you’ll spot lots of tuxedos on formal occasions.

Cunard Line

Dress codes on Cunard tend to be a little stuffier than most.. The look is still informal in the day in public rooms and casual on deck, slightly formal at restaurants at lunch and more dressy at dinner.

Disney Cruises

Casual by day and resort casual by night.

Holland America Line

MSC Cruises

Casual by day, chic resort wear in evenings to dressy duds on formal nights.

Norwegian Cruise Line

What To Wear On Black Tie/gala Evening

Here are some suggestions as to what to wear on a Black Tie night. Whether you like to show a bit of leg or prefer to go all out Hollywood diva, any of the following would be appropriate: cocktail dresses, short formal evening dresses, long ball gowns/evening dresses or smart Jumpsuits/trouser suits – glitz and glamour is the name of the game. Whilst Dinner jackets or tuxedos are optimal choices, a dark lounge or business suit and tie can be worn as an alternative. Formal National dress/Military Uniform is also acceptable. Minimum expected standards would be a smart dress or tunic or smart separates Formal trousers, jacket with a shirt and tie or ideally a smart suit. However, if you are more of the if youve got it, flaunt it mindset you can go all out and really dress up.

Top Cruise Dress Code Tips

Still confused by the dress code on cruise holidays? Here are my top five survival tips:

  • Ladies, you cant go wrong with a little black dress, which can make at least two outings with different accessories. A coordinated wardrobe goes a long way.
  • Palazzo pants are extremely elegant with heels and often come with an elasticated waist, which is always handy towards the end of a cruise if you have, er, dined well.
  • Dont take advance notice of theme nights too seriously unless you are really into fancy dress. I tend to avoid pirate night or seventies night, although the White Nights deck parties on Azamara are quite stylish.
  • In the event of a crisis, such as forgetting a bow tie, ships receptionists are often quite helpful in sourcing a spare or the on-board shops usually sell formal accessories.

Absolute worst case, you wont starve, as the ships buffet is always casual, even on posh nights. And if you order room service, you can feast on filet mignon in your pyjamas.

Is There A Dress Code For Oceania Cruises

The dress code across all Oceania Cruises is country club casual. This generally means a collared or polo shirt with slacks or pants for men and tasteful sweaters, shirts, and skirts or sundresses for women. Passengers typically dress up into more elegant wear during the evenings and at dining venues sporting button-down shirts with jackets for men and cocktail dresses or skirts for women. While not heavily enforced, you will rarely find passengers wearing casual attire such as t-shirts, jeans, and shorts. Similarly, gowns and tuxedos are never required on an Oceania cruise.

There Are Just Two Evening Dress Codes On P& o Cruises

Luxury cruise line dress codes: What to wear on a ...

One of the most frequently asked cruise questions is What is the dress code on board. It can be a real source of worry for new cruisers wondering if P& O Cruises still have formal nights, not wanting to make a faux pas or simply needing to know what to pack. For experienced cruisers it is to allow them to make an informed choice – some love to dress up and live for formal nights whilst others feel more comfortable in casual dress or simply dont like having to conform to a prescribed dress code.

Generally dress codes apply mainly to evening wear. Every cruise line has their own take on dress codes, ranging from anything goes to three or four different standards on different nights. In fact when we took our first ever cruise, which was with P& O Cruises, there were three dress codes to adhere to: Casual, Informal and formal. Although we loved having the opportunity to dress up, it was all a bit over complicated.

However, P& O Cruises has moved with the times and is a now a contemporary cruise line which appreciates that guests want to enjoy their holidays stress free, so they overhauled their dress code policies and now there are just two recommended dress codes .

Two evening dress codes apply on P& O Cruises: Evening Casual and Black Tie, effective from 6 pm in restaurants and bars.

What Are The Advantages Of A Fly Cruise Over A No

There are countless advantages to fly cruises over no-fly, with the main advantage being able to immerse yourself fully in the environment and culture of locations quicker than ever before. Typically with cruises departing from the UK, it can take you a day or two, and sometimes more, to reach your first port of call, whereas, with a fly cruise, you can start your holiday straight away.

In addition, fly cruising allows you to spend more time exploring a destination than a cruise itinerary usually allows for. Guests can also experience two styles of holiday in one by adding days in port pre-departure or post-departure.

Moreover, fly cruising gives you more flexibility with departure ports. Some major cruise ports in the UK, such as Southampton, may be inconvenient for some travellers, so the ability to fly from varying airports across the UK gives your holiday a new level of flexibility.

What To Wear Onboard

Ep.1 – Our 1st Oceania Cruise – Insignia – Western Caribbean | 4K

There are bound to be some questionable fashion choices on display when you embark on a cruisingholiday. There are also specific dress codes to adhere to, depending on the time of day, cruise line and onboard venue you are in at the time. Shore excursions are also important to be dressed accordingly for the activity you are participating in.

We recommend always wearing comfortable footwear off the ship during excursions and take a light sweater in case you are not back until after sunset! Of course, it all depends on which region you are sailing in. After all, your attire on excursions in Northern Europe will be completely different to getting off the ship during summer in Hawaii, so always dress according to the weather and excursion.

Across many, if not all the cruise lines, they enforce a dress code policy of no t-shirts, swimwear, robes, bare feet and baseball caps in any of the main or specialty dining venues, and bars inside the ship. This dress code does not apply around the pool.

Celebrity Cruises has chosen to replace their formal dress code to Evening Chic, which is dressier than smart casual, however less dressy than traditional formal attire. Onboard Celebrity for Evening Chic, women can wear cocktail dresses, skirts, pants and elegant tops and the men to wear pants, long sleeve shirt with optional sport coat or blazer.

Carnival Cruise Line Dress Code

Overall, Carnival cruises are known for their casual vibe, which means passengers will fit right in wearing bathing suits, shorts or jeans, and t-shirts or tank tops during the day.

On most evenings, a “cruise casual” dress code is in place in the main dining room on Carnival ships. That means unripped slacks, jeans or shorts with collared shirts for men and casual dresses or jeans and nice tops for women.

On short sailings, there is usually one “cruise elegant” evening , where passengers who wish to dress up will don suits and ties, dress pants with jackets, cocktail dresses or pantsuits.

American Steamboat Company And Victory Cruise Lines

Both a part of Hornblower Group, these two small cruise lines were actually among the first to say that, starting July 1, 2021, as part of their SafeCruise program, all crew and all passengers would need to be vaccinated before joining a sailing. Since passengers on these lines are in an older age bracket, they will most likely be among the first groups to be offered a vaccine.

Passengers will be required to prove that all doses have been administered at least 14 days before sailing, while crew members will be expected to show their vaccination records at the time of hire or before boarding a ship for work. In a statement given to Condé Nast Traveler, John Waggoner, the CEO and founder of American Queen Steamboat, said, vaccination requirements for both our guests and crew is the most prudent next step to ensure that we are providing the safest cruising experience possible.

Khakis, jeans, shorts and casual shirts are fine for men. Swimwear is acceptable at the buffet and outdoor restaurant, but a shirt or a cover-up and footwear are required.

Be sure to pack a sweater – the air conditioning can be chilly. Kids 12 and under are welcome to wear nice shorts in all our restaurants.

Please Note: We want you to be comfortable, but tank tops for men, flip flops, baseball caps, visors and jeans that are overly faded, with holes or tears and worn below the hips are not permitted in main dining rooms or specialty restaurants.

All Decked-out: Smart Casual

Dress smart casual in our more formal dining room or in our more upscale specialty restaurants. For women, it includes slacks or jeans, dresses, skirts and tops. For men, it’s jeans or slacks with a collared shirt and closed-toed shoes. Kids 12 and under are welcome to wear nice shorts in all our restaurants.

Celebrity Cruises Dress Code

Are there any formal nights on Oceania cruises at ...

Slightly more upscale than the “big three” cruise lines , Celebrity tends to attract passengers who embrace a casual-but-classy style. During the day, you’ll often find them in swimsuits and cover-ups or resort casual clothes, such as beachy button-downs or tank tops and khaki shorts.

Resort casual gradually transitions to “smart casual” on most days as evening approaches. That means a skirt, pants or jeans with a casual top for women and slacks or jeans with short-sleeved collared shirts for men.

On one night during every voyage of six nights or fewer — two nights for sailings of a week or longer — Celebrity has replaced its formal nights with “evening chic” attire.

Although passengers can still dress to the nines in tuxes and ball gowns if they want to, cocktail dresses, skirts or jeans with elegant tops are still permitted for women, while men can choose to wear dressy jeans or slacks with button-down shirts with optional sweaters or jackets.
