Designing The Disney Wish: New Experiences For Kids | Disney Cruise Line

If youre thinking a Disney Cruise is all character meet and greets and pirate dance parties, think again. Whether youre adults traveling with kids, a solo traveler, or just traveling with friends you will be surprised to see loads of activities curated especially for Disney Adults. Adult Programs on a Disney Cruise are more plentiful than you think. From programs for foodies to bingo to trivia to specialty bars. Heres everything you can find on a Disney Cruise Ship as a Disney Adult.

Do I Need To Include My Child That Is Under 3 When Making Fastpass Reservations

No. For those rides without height restrictions, it is simply assumed that your child will be riding with you. Therefore they fall under the FastPass reservations of the parent or guardian visiting with them. If you are travelling with a child under the age of 3 and go to make your FastPass reservation Disney will not even give you the option of including them. An error message will come up asking you to take them off the reservation. But dont worry theyll be covered. And in the event that there are height restrictions on a ride consider taking advantage of Disneys Rider Switch system!

Why Consider A Disney Cruise

I am going to put it in one word: Disney. When it comes to fanatical attention to detail, top-notch service, and family-friendliness, no one does it like a Disney vacation.

But you may be trying to decide, is a Disney Cruise worth it? After all, a Disney cruise can be a more expensive family vacation and more expensive than other cruise lines. And, you are not getting the full Disney theme park experience.

But, whether it’s Disney or other cruise lines, most of these cruises are all-inclusive. So, you will pay a bit more for that experience.

That said, a Disney Cruise offers a completely different type of vacation than the Disney theme parks and other cruises. And, what stands Disney cruise line part is that they immerse you in the Disney experience.

Here’s why you should look into if a Disney Cruise is worth it for your family.

The Kids Are Well Behaved When You See Them

disney

Were there a lot of kids on our cruise? Yes, but Disney’s kids clubs are so stellar that many parents with whom we spoke said their little ones didn’t want to leave. For anyone who doesn’t relish the idea of screaming youngsters on the pool deck, that’s a good thing. When we did encounter children, they were well-mannered and pleasant, which is a far cry from what we expected.

Thinking of doing a cruise with a baby? Disney offers the ultimate in baby-friendly cruise amenities. We just returned from our first Disney Cruise with a baby on board the Disney Dream! Our cruise was the 3 night Bahamas itinerary with one day in Castaway Cay . We traveled with our 3.5-year-old and 8-month-old sons. The trip was a blast and you can read my full review of the pros and cons here. Cruising with a baby is easy, and Disney goes out of their way to provide you will LOTS of baby amenities on board.

Cruising with an infant is a super easy way to travel. Its great to be able to unpack only once, especially when I end up bringing the entire house for one 8-month-old baby! A Disney cruise with an infant is really the ultimate for a carefree vacation with a little one. Disney offers so much for every age and I found their cruise daycare to be absolutely top-notch.

There are a few tips that I think will make your cruise easier with a baby on board.

Your Heart Might Just Melt

We went into our adult Disney cruise adventure extremely skeptical and prepared for the worst. We expected to be annoyed by kids and characters and glittery, sweet-talking princesses. Instead, we found there’s an odd sense of peace in watching those three elements combine. We dare any adult to hold back a smile as little girls in poufy dresses hug Belle and Snow White. Just go ahead and try not to be happy as you witness excited little boys asking Mickey for his autograph. By the end of our three days onboard, two grumpy, jaded grownups had remembered what it’s like to believe in magic.

Have you always wanted to sail on a Disney Cruise Line ship that wasnt overrun with kids? Nows your chance.

The family-focused cruise operator on Friday announced plans to only allow passengers vaccinated for COVID-19 on an upcoming Disney Wonder sailing through the Panama Canal. That means that assuming vaccination eligibility rules dont change in the coming weeks no children under the age of 12 would be allowed on the voyage.

Children under the age of 12 currently are not eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine.

The vaccination policy for this one sailing, which kicks off Nov. 5 in San Diego, is far more restrictive than what Disney has implemented on other voyages since it resumed limited operations in July.

For all other sailings, Disney is allowing children under the age of 12 to sail without a COVID-19 vaccine as long as they test negative before boarding. Passengers 12 and older must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 on Disney ships.

The combination of these factors could make it more difficult for the line to contain a COVID-19 outbreak among unvaccinated passengers than on a more typical Disney voyage.

Choose The Best Time For Your Family To Dine

You can choose the best dining time for your family ahead, but if you need to change it, you can usually do it once you board the ship. If you have young kids, the earlier dining time is recommended. But if you require flexible dining, don’t worry. You can order room service or visit one of the quick service options on board.

What Should I Pack For A Baby On A Disney Cruise

Disney Cruise Line: Kids

5. Pack These Baby Essentials: Theyre Expensive on the Ship

Many regular supplies for babies are available on your Disney cruise ship, but don’t plan on buying them once you’re checked into your stateroom.

These everyday items are expensive when you buy them onboard! A little bit of planning goes a long way in being prepared and saving money.

This is my suggested packing list for what to pack for your baby on your Disney cruise.

How Old Does A Baby Have To Be To Cruise

You are able to bring your baby on a cruise as long as he or she is at least 6 months of age by the day you set sail. This is the infant policy for MOST Disney Cruise Line sailings.

However, if you are sailing on a Transatlantic or Panama Canal cruise itinerary, your baby must be at least 1 year old to sail.

Characters Are Not Everywhere

Worried the Donald and Goofy sightings will be overkill? Don’t be. Yes, there are characters onboard, but they appear mainly at set times in specific locations, which are noted in each day’s schedule. That means you can generally avoid them if you so choose. Adults who actually want to encounter Minnie, Pluto and the rest of the gang will be pleased to know that they’re far more accessible onboard than they are at any of the land-based Disney parks.

Kids Splash Areas And Pools

A Disney Cruise is worth it for the kids’ splash pads and pools. One nice thing about Disney Cruises is there are splash plads for young kids and pools like Mickey’s Pool and Nemo’s Reef, and separate adults’ only pools. The Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy have the AquaDuck waterslide and the Disney Magic has the AquaDunk waterslide.

Bring A Stroller For Your Disney Cruise With A Baby

Before going on my cruise I joined a few Disney facebook groups and read a whole bunch of blog posts on Cruising with a baby. MANY people said not to bother with a stroller and just bring a carrier. When I mentioned on a facebook group that I was thinking of bringing a DOUBLE stroller I got a lot of comments about how it was really NOT a good idea. Of course, I didnt listen and I brought a double stroller on the cruise and ABSOLUTELY DO NOT REGRET IT!

My kids love the stroller and I love the stroller too. Both of my kids will sleep in a stroller, and if the kids are asleep in the stroller, the adults can be outside enjoying the fresh air and not cramped up in a small stateroom. Yes having a double stroller was a bit awkward in the tight hallways on the trip, and yes getting it into and out of the room required fully folding it up, but I WILL BRING IT BACK AGAIN AND AGAIN!

We chose the ZoeXL2, which is a great double travel stroller. It folds up super small but still has a lot of the features of a full-size stroller . If I did it again, I might consider taking two super compact travel strollers as it would have been easier to navigate the halls.

Disney Knows How To Entertain Children And Young Families

It may seem odd to include this on our list of reasons, but its a good thing for those traveling without kids. Ive traveled on other cruise lines, and I have found one thing to be true. No one entertains kids better than Disney! On my first non-Disney cruise with my husband, we saw more bored kids walking around the ship than we saw on Disney. Why? Because there was nowhere decent for them to go, and they werent having much fun. Now, I do know that some cruise lines are better than others when it comes to their kid activities, but theres no arguing that Disney has a way of engaging children that simply cant be matched.

Dont get me wrong, there are TONS of kids on a Disney Cruise. I would be lying if I said that Disneys main customer base was anything but families with children. But Disney does such a good job of keeping them happy, well-fed, and entertained with activities onboard in their designated kids clubs as well as family activities for everyone to enjoy together.
