I am looking to rent a car in Port Canaveral that has a free shuttle from cruise docks. The cruise boat arrives at 12pm so hoping to get a rental about that time and return at 8pm . Most car rental places close at 5 or 6pm . Any guidance/suggestions??

All of the following companies have offices in Cape Canaveral and provide free shuttle service to and from the cruise terminals at the port during open hours: Avis, Budget, Dollar/Thrifty, Enterprise/Alamo/National, Hertz, and Payless. Most do close in the late afternoon however, some do have the drop boxes for car returns. We have personally used the one at the Enterprise/Alamo/National office just drop all the passengers at the port, drive to the office to park and lock the car, enter the time and ending mileage on the form, and drop the keys and paperwork into the locked box.
Because the shuttle isnt running when the office is closed, it will be necessary to arrange for a taxi to get the driver back to the ship, as none of the offices are close enough to allow for a safe and convenient walk back. There are several taxi companies that can do this, including AAA Taxi.
Be sure to confirm the continuing availability of the drop box process in advance.
