GALVESTON, Texas A new Norwegian Cruise ship with the largest racetrack on the ocean is going to be sailing from Galveston in late 2023.

The Norwegian Prima is the first of six ships in the Norwegian Cruise Lines Prima Class and its set to embark on its maiden voyage next summer.

The massive boat is 965 feet long and can accommodate 3,215 guests at double occupancy, according to a press release.

In addition to the ships three-level racetrack, there will also be a 10-story, freefall dry slide called The Drop where guests will reach the highest G-forces of any cruise line, NCL officials said.

Two escape rooms, a Topgolf Swing Suite, mini-golf course, aqua park with Tidal Wave waterslide and infinity hot tubs will also be featured on the Norwegian Prima.

Norwegian Cruise Line Loyalty Program

Norwegian has a point-based frequent cruiser program, Latitudes Rewards, that has six tiers, ranging from Bronze to Ambassador .

Members earn points for every night they sail on one of the lines ships. They get an additional point for every night they stay in a Concierge room, a suite or a room in The Haven. They also get an additional point for every night booked through a Latitudes Rewards Insider Offer.

Hitting the first tier, Bronze, takes one cruise. Reaching the second tier, Silver , would take at the most five cruises if youre doing seven-night trips.

Lower tiers dont bring all that much in terms of truly valuable benefits. Youll get things like priority check-in and discounted spa treatments performed while ships are in port. But higher levels of the program start to be enticing.

Platinum brings free dinners at two extra-charge restaurants, free internet minutes, behind-the-scenes ship tours and concierge service.

The top Ambassador level brings a truly wonderful perk: A one-time complimentary seven-night cruise in a balcony cabin. You can pick almost any sailing except trips around Christmas and the new year.

A passenger staying in suites and booking through Latitudes Rewards Insider Offers could get to the Platinum level with just four seven-night cruises.

Understanding Cruise Ship Classes

Norwegian Epic: Cruise ship to become largest sailing from ...

Cruise lines are large companies that manage a fleet of ships. Some of the worlds largest cruise lines have dozens of ships.

Each cruise line has its own style. However, even within a brand, there are different dining options, entertainment options, and onboard amenities between ships.

It would take you hours to research each ship individually. Not to mention, Norwegian Cruise Line is just one of many cruise lines.

Hence, its important to note that each cruise line offers different groups of ships. These classes of cruise ships are of similar size and design. Further, they often feature similar amenities and venues.

Norwegian Cruise Line currently has five classes of ships in addition to a few ships in a class of their own. The brand is also expected to debut a series of ships in the new Leonardo Class beginning in 2022.

One of the worlds biggest cruise lines this week cancelled a wide swath of its soon-to-depart voyages as COVID-19 cases around the world continue to soar.

In a notice posted on its website, Norwegian Cruise Line said it had cancelled sailings as far out as April on eight vessels, including trips on many of its Florida-based and Hawaii-based ships.

The cancellations were announced just a day after Norwegian ended an 11-night voyage out of Miami one day after the trip had begun, citing COVID-19 cases among the ships crew. That sailing was taking place on the Miami-based lines 2,394-passenger Norwegian Pearl.

The cancellations come as cruise lines struggle along with all other types of travel providers to deal with the surge in COVID-19 cases sweeping the world. On Wednesday the U.K. reported 194,747 coronavirus cases and 334 deaths in their daily figures though the figure did include a backlog of data from NHS England from New Years day.

Some cruise ships also have had to contend with crew shortages that have resulted from the need to isolate crew who have tested positive for COVID-19.

Stunning Photos Of Norwegians Biggest And Baddest Ship Ever

Weighing around 153,000 tons, Norwegian Cruise Lines Epic is the 4th largest cruise ship operating in the world today. She made her maiden voyage in June of 2010, when she crossed the Atlantic to make a stop in New York City before taking up residence in Miami for a season of Caribbean cruises. Although there are newer cruise ships than the Epic, few of those ships are able to match the Epics commitment to innovation. This commitment is what makes a trip aboard her one of the most modern cruise experiences that money can buy.

From the water park above deck to the throbbing restaurants, bars and nightclubs below, a passenger on the Epic will never want for anything to tickle their senses. For those who privilege exclusivity in their vacations, there are even suites that come with access to exclusive areas aboard the ship. Not that you necessarily need that level of private access, because there are 20 restaurants and 20 bars aboard the Epic, including a comedy club and a jazz club!

Collected here, youll find 38 pictures that show why the Epic is Norwegians biggest and baddest ship. Be sure to stay tuned for #36 and #37, which offer a rare glimpse at the Epics most exclusive accommodations: the Owners Suites.

Pride Of America Class

Ships in class: Pride of America

Size: 80,439 tons

Like Norwegian Epic, Pride of America is an outlier in the Norwegian fleet. In fact, its perhaps an even bigger outlier than the former vessel.

Sporting a patriotic U.S. theme , and a distinct array of lounges and entertainment, its a ship specifically designed to sail year-round in Hawaii the only one of its kind at any line.

Pride of America notably flies a U.S. flag and operates with a mostly U.S. crew, in keeping with regulations governing cruise itineraries that only include U.S. ports. Thats a big difference from any other big cruise vessel in the world.

Its also the only Norwegian vessel without a casino, in keeping with local Hawaii regulations.

If you sail on Pride of America, youll find such one-of-a-kind eateries as the classic American car-themed Cadillac Diner. But youll also find some of Norwegians signature offerings, including a Cagneys steakhouse and Italian eatery La Cucina. The ships other onboard attractions include a showroom, lounges, bars and a top deck with extensive open-air pool and sun lounging areas.

Thanks to its ownership of Pride of America, Norwegian is the undisputed leader in Hawaii cruises. Most cruise lines that offer sailings to Hawaii only offer a limited number of such trips during a few months each year. Norwegian, by contrast, offers sailings around the Hawaiian Islands every week of the year the only cruise line in the world to do so.

An Introduction To Norwegian Cruise Line Ships

Smaller only than Royal Caribbean, Carnival Cruise Line and MSC Cruises, Norwegian has become increasingly known for some of the biggest, most amenity-filled vessels at sea. But as mentioned above, the line doesnt just operate giant ships. More than half its fleet comprises vessels that, by todays standards, are considered almost midsize.

Indeed, Norwegian essentially is two cruise lines in one. The lines seven newest ships are big, bustling floating megaresorts that can carry upwards of 4,000 passengers at double occupancy . At around 145,000 to nearly 170,000 tons, all seven currently rank among the 30 biggest cruise ships in the world .

But Norwegians 10 older ships are much more modest in size, measuring around 75,000 to 94,000 tons and carrying closer to 2,000 passengers at double occupancy.

Norwegian appeals both to cruisers who like a giant resort vibe and those who prefer something more modest. The key, depending on your tastes, is getting on the right ship in the fleet.

On the big-ship end of the spectrum, Norwegians four new Breakaway Plus vessels Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Joy and Norwegian Escape are the lines premier offerings.

One step down in size from the Breakaway Plus ships are the still-quite-large Breakaway Class ships Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Getaway and the one-of-a-kind Norwegian Epic.

Norwegians 10 smaller vessels break down among five classes. But many are roughly the same size and offer similar amenities.

Cruise Ship Capacity Growth Over Time

Cruise lines are well aware that more passengers equals more profit. Using “economies of scale,” these companies have been able to grow revenues disproportionately to the associated increase in costs. In nerd speak, the marginal returns can increase at a rate greater than marginal costs.

Consider this. Royal Caribbean decides to add their magnificent Central Park feature. That’s a fixed cost and occupies a fixed space. Whether the vessel has 100 guests or 1,000, the marginal expense is essentially $0 for each additional passenger taking advantage of that space. Adding more passengers adds a clear impact to the bottom line. RC is going to optimize for the greatest number of people feasible in the available space.

Norwegians newest, largest cruise ship sails into Seattle

The Norwegian Prima features a glass-bottom bridge, stunning infinity pools, and more space for passengers.

Norwegian Cruise Line is taking travel on the high seas to the next level with its latest class of ships, featuring a pair of 8-story-high glass bridges over the water and stunning ocean-facing infinity pools.

The focus on outdoor living is apparent throughout the Norwegian Prima, the first of the cruise lines six new ships in the Prima Class and set to debut in the summer of 2022, Norwegian shared with Travel + Leisure on Wednesday.

A combination of the space and the beauty of the design together really are apparent it just hits you,Norwegian Cruise Lines President and CEO Harry Sommer told T+L. Its not trying to cram as many things as possible into a small space with many flashing lights. Its a much more refined look.

The ship, which will be able to carry 3,215 guests, will offer more space per passenger with the companys largest-ever inside, oceanview, and balcony staterooms and the biggest bathrooms in standard staterooms as well as the largest variety of suite categories. Outside of the room, the ship will feature a full wrap-around deck complete with an open-air marketplace and food hall and an outdoor sculpture garden.

We think this is going to be a game changer in the contemporary premium space of the industry, he added.

It talks to the pent-up demand that people are looking to do more exotic locations, he said about Greece.
