The company has taken every lesson its learned from its parks and resort operations and implemented that into its four cruise ships, the 2,400-passenger Disney Magic and Disney Wonder, and the 4,000-passenger Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. “Flag State” is the ship’s registration country under whose laws it is registered/licensed. Just like any marine vessel, a passenger ship operates under its flag state laws . Flag states have the authority and responsibility for a ship, exercising control over the ships. They inspect the ships regularly, certify equipment and crew, issue safety and pollution-related documents, etc.
Each of the flag states has its own ship register where all ships sailing under its flag need to be registered. Some countries even have more than one ship register.

Cunard is one of the oldest cruise lines with a history dating back to 1840. On the earliest cruises, cows were kept on board to supply fresh milk before being slaughtered and eaten on the final day of the voyage.
These days, over 40,000 pints of milk are brought on to a cruise ship for a two-week cruise. To produce that amount of milk in two weeks would require 25 dairy cows.

Its all about the food on Oceania Cruises. Its 1,250-passenger MS Marina and MS Riviera offer restaurants by Jaques Pepin, a six-course Dom Perignon dinner with a pairing of three vintages, a cooking center where passengers of all cooking skill levels can take classes, and culinary-themed excursions, like a visit to the market in Nice with a chef. Its four smaller Regatta-class ships, each accommodating 684 passengers, also have excellent dining options, like the Polo Grill and the Italian eatery Toscana. Two new 1,200-passenger ships are on the way for Oceania, set for delivery in 2023 and 2025.

Closed Registries
Most countries have closed registries which means that the ship usually has to be owned and/or constructed by the country in order to fly the flag. This also affects employment with a certain amount of the employees working onboard having to be from that country.
Open Registries
On the other hand, some countries have what is called open registries. This means that almost anybody can register a ship to the country in question and in some situations youre able to just apply online. Some countries that have had open registries in the past have since changed to closed registries due to problems with crime.
There are still plenty of countries with open registries where its relatively easy to register a ship there if youd like to.

Norwegian Cruise Line, which falls under the Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings umbrella, has a home base in Miami. Its ships are largely Bahamas-flagged, with others registered in Panama. A growing number of cruise lines are dropping calls at Russian and Ukrainian ports in the wake of Russias invasion of Ukraine, citing worries about the safety of passengers and crew.
The worlds third largest cruise company, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, late Thursday canceled all calls at St. Petersburg, Russia, through the end of the year becoming the biggest cruise operator so far to drop Russia from itineraries.
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings is the parent company of Norwegian Cruise Line, Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Oceania Cruises. Together, the three lines had about 50 sailings on their schedules for the year that included stops in the Baltic port.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings announcement came hours after small-ship specialist Atlas Ocean Voyages became the first cruise line to cancel calls at Russian ports, removing St. Petersburg from two Baltic sailings scheduled for the summer.
In addition, river and ocean cruise operator Viking late Thursday canceled its entire summer season of Kiev, Black Sea & Bucharest sailings that include travel across the Black Sea and up Ukraines Dnieper River. British line Saga Cruises on Thursday removed a call at Odessa, Ukraine, from a Black Sea cruise scheduled to take place in May.

Will See A New Biggest Cruise Ship In The World
In March 2022, Royal Caribbeans new ship, Wonder of the Seas, will make her maiden voyage and become the biggest cruise ship ever to set sail. At 236,857 gross tons, this ship is about 4% larger than the current largest ship, Symphony of the Seas.
Until 2022, Royal Caribbeans Symphony of the Seas has been the biggest cruise ship in the world with an internal volume of 228,000 gross tons .
Wonder of the Seas will also become the joint-longest cruise ship in the world. Both Wonder and Harmony of the Seas measure 1,118 feet in length three-and-a-half feet longer than Symphony of the Seas.
Each of these ships is longer than the Eiffel Tower is tall, and each weighs more than 10,000 adult elephants.

The refined ships sail to destinations across the world, but one of the most popular destinations for the cruise line is Alaska. When cruising resumes, check out the Noordam, which was refurbished in 2019, as it sails itineraries around the Japanese archipelago, China, and Southeast Asia.

While it’s true that Royal Caribbean is better known for its large and mega-ships, the cruise line also has a fair number of medium-size ships whose maximum capacities are just shy of 2,500 guests. In 2019, the global cruise industry welcomed 29.7 million passengers, created jobs for 1.8 million people around the world and contributed over $154 billion to the global economy.
Cruising was suspended worldwide in mid-March 2020. July 2020 saw a resumption of sailing in parts of Europe, Asia and the South Pacific with around 200 cruises departing in the second half of the year.
In 2021, the cruise industry bounced back further, welcoming almost 13.9 million passengers worldwide. However, this is still only 46% of the passengers that cruised in 2019.

% More Cruise Ships Were Built In 2021 Than 2020
Work on building new cruise ships slowed in 2020 and some ships such as Royal Caribbeans Odyssey of the Seas which were due to be completed in 2020 were delayed until 2021.
Fewer shipyard closures in 2021 meant that 24 brand new cruise ships were delivered, compared to just 15 in 2020. However, this is still behind the target of 28, as the builds of four new ships were pushed back into 2022.

Do Cruise Lines Permit Registered Sexual Offenders To Cruise
There are around 750,000 sexual offenders registered in the United States. Many thousands of these sexual offenders go on cruises each year. Some cruise lines do not permit registered offenders to cruise, but many if not most cruise lines do.
Another lawyer here in Miami recently wrote an interesting article for the Huffington Post about this important issue, titled Should Cruise Ships Allow Sexual Offenders to Sail?
The article points out, believe it or not, that there is a travel-related resource which caters to registered sexual offenders called Resources for RSO Travels, which published a blog post Can Registered Sex Offenders Go on a Cruise? The article answers its own question, writing the answer is YES! but further explains that there are some cruise line which block sexual offenders from cruising:
. . . here are the two cruise lines that are notoriously known for denying registered sex offenders: Royal Caribbean and Carnival. Here are the cruise lines that allow registered sex offenders to board the ship: Norwegian, MSC, Holland America.
I have represented far too many people sexually assaulted on cruise ships, including dozens of children sexually abused during cruises, to have any tolerance for sexual offenders protesting that they were not permitted to cruise.

Cunards Queen Mary 2 is the only cruise ship that allows passengers to bring their pet dogs and cats on board. This ship has 24 kennels, space to play and it even has lampposts and fire hydrants for dogs to relieve themselves.
Service dogs such as guide dogs for visually impaired people and hearing dogs for the deaf are welcome on most cruise ships. However, certain types of working dogs such as emotional support dogs are not recognised as official service dogs and are not allowed on board. The rules have become stricter since people began to bring untrained pet dogs on board under the guise of being an assistance dog.
Cat lovers may also be interested in the Meow Meow Cruise, a cat-themed cruise. Unfortunately, no cats are permitted onboard.

But thats soon about to change. Norwegian currently has six ships on order as part of Project Leonardo, each of which will hold about 3,300 passengers. In early 2015, Crystal brought a yacht into its fleet for the first time, and following its success, the cruise line decided to custom-build a polar-class expedition megayacht. The ultra-luxe Crystal Endeavor, which sails to remote locations like the Arctic and the Antarctic, as well as urban ports around the world, launched in 2021, and can carry up to 200 passengers.
