Alaska is Americas largest state, a land of snow-capped mountains, amazing wildlife and massive glaciers. Its breathtaking beauty will take your breath away. One of the best ways to see this impressive scenery is from a deck of a cruise ship. Watch the ever changing vistas from your veranda, see glaciers calving icebergs, and watch out for wildlife bald eagles, seals, whales, or even bears.

Main ports for Pacific Coastal cruises are San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego. Voyages depart to Baja California, the Mexican Riviera or even Hawaii. A popular time is spring or fall at the end or beginning of the Alaska season when several ships reposition to and from Alaska.

Make your tropical escape to the azure waters and white sands of the Caribbean, or to the Mexican and Central American ports on the Gulf of Mexico from American cities such as Miami, Ft Lauderdale, Port Canaveral, New Orleans, Galvaston, and Tampa. From Florida To Alaska

This Insane New Cruise Ship Will Hit Alaska and Florida Next Year ...

Hi There,

Yes, that is a long trip..Planning on next year sometime end of July-August . I am reaching out now since, you have traveled the state and would have the best and greatest suggestions.

My questions so far:

is travel month still ok? cannot travel end of August .

which airline and best arrival location? no car rental – other ways of getting around .

is a cruise ship worth it ? or too much money? yikes!

hotels? or bnb? places to eat?

can I take the rail depending on location? and round-trip?

my wish list is to see the Gulf of Alaska by boat – is this possible?

well, that’s it for now..I know it is a lot but trying to weigh my options plus the best budget. again yikes!

thank you in advance, me

Alaska.

What do you mean by “see the Gulf of Alaska”? Just a short view or hours? If the former, do a Kenai Fjords cruise out of Seward that is at least 6 hrs. long. They go briefly into open ocean as they round Aialik Cape. Here are typical cruise routes: . If you want to spend hours crossing the Gulf, you’d have to go by ferry or cruise ship.

Buses and trains are very limited in Alaska, but you can still have a nice trip using them. You will see far more if you rent a car.

It would help if you told us what you were interested in seeing and doing.

thx to each of you for your great advice..

Thanks again for taking the time to read and reply!

Royal Caribbean App Key To Onboard Bookings

In addition to packing their passports, COVID-19 vaccination certificates and cruise documents, there is another important necessity cruisers should familiarize themselves with: the Royal Caribbean app.

The app will be key to making onboard dining and entertainment reservations, booking shore excursions, and more. It doesnt cost anything to use , but it is a good idea to download this to your smartphone at home prior to setting sail.

Passengers will also be able to choose a check-in time via the app. Passengers who arrive earlier than their check-in time will not be accommodated and will have to wait until their designated time. Passengers who miss their designated time slot will need to wait until they can be placed in a later group.

While Royal Caribbean has already sold out its July departures to Alaska, voyages aboard Serenade of the Seas and Ovation of the Seas are still available for booking this August and September.

And Then Theres The Good News

Wouldnt you know it? The Orlando Amtrak station did not let me down, nor did the hords of theme park people who boarded. By the time Pepe dropped me off, the train was a fabulous 25 minutes late. I had time to check my bag and sit and try to decompress. Getting to Alaska from Florida just got a bit easier.

So now Im happily ensconced in my teeny tiny roomette aboard Amtrak Silver Meteor, with a bag of Pepperidge Farm Goldfish, an ice-cold ginger ale and my laptop fully charged. Im waiting for my 7:15pm dinner reservation. When called, Ill carefully make my way two cars forward in this 11-car train and wait to be seated. With whom Ill dine is a total mystery.

Ive always met interesting, quirky and fellow train enthusiasts in the Amtrak dining car. Wed rather spend days and nights chugging across America, sleep in train cars that are at least 30 years old, than zoom through the skies in a metal tube.

Theres only a short layover at Washington, D.C.s Union Station from the Silver Meteor to the Capitol Limited for Chicago. This beautifully re-done art deco station is the districts major transportation hub, bustling with people hurrying to catch their commuter trains. With a sleeping compartment, you can relax in the Acela Lounge. Simply check in at the desk, stow your luggage in the closet and explore Union Station.

Cdc Says Florida Lawsuit Imperils Summer Cruises To Alaska As Standoff Continues

U.S. officials say Floridas lawsuit against the federal government over conditions for cruise lines to resume sailing could threaten plans to restart cruising in Alaska after a court-ordered mediation failed to end the standoff.

The state of Florida and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention failed to reach an agreement on cruise guidelines Thursday after the federal judge overseeing Floridas lawsuit against the Biden administration ordered both sides into mediation.

The Sunshine State has sued to throw out requirements, called a conditional sailing order, that were imposed on cruise lines before they can sail in U.S. water for the first time since March 2020.

The CDC says cruise ships will be allowed to sail with passengers as long as 98% of crew members and 95% of the passengers are fully vaccinated. But an order signed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis in April bars businesses from questioning a customers vaccination status. Cruise ships are not exempt from the rule.

DeSantis said he wasnt budging on a new state law-based that authorizes a $5,000 fine per passenger against cruise lines that ask for proof of vaccination reported NewsNation affiliate WFLA.

The CDC says that Congress effectively ratified the conditional sailing order when it passed a law last month to let large cruise ships resume trips from Washington state to Alaska this summer.

Is It Worth It To Cruise To Alaska In The Shoulder Season

While prices may be cheaper in May and September compared to June, July, and August, its important to consider the pros and cons of each month before selecting a sail date.

If an Alaska cruise is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for you and you want the warmest temperatures and most daylight, booking the cheapest fare in, say, late September, may lead to disappointment.

Read more: Why you shouldnt book the cheapest cruise you can find

Temperatures on an Alaska can actually be quite comfortable in late spring, so while its of course recommended to pack a jacket, hat, and gloves, you may be surprised with sunny skies and somewhat warm weather.

Regardless of the month you book an Alaska cruise, its important to remain flexible. Temperature, precipitation, port changes, and unexpected mishaps can happen at any time of year in Alaska, so keeping an open mind will help you have the best experience possible.

Benefits Of Booking An Alaska Cruise During The Cheapest Months

Booking an Alaska cruise during shoulder season can lead to benefits beyond a cheaper cruise fare.

Cruising to Alaska in the early season of late April and May can come with a lower chance of rain than late summer and fall. In addition, daylight hours are from around 4AM to 10PM in May, giving visitors plenty of time to enjoy Alaskas attractions. Temperatures can be quite comfortable as summer approaches, with highs in the 60s common in mid to late-May.

The early season also brings the chance to spot gray whales, bears, and orcas.

Cruising in September brings the start of fall foliage and snow capped mountain peaks. You may also have the chance to spot the northern lights in late September, although this is not guaranteed.
