BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, December 13, 2021: The Seven Seas Splendor, of the luxurious Regent Seven Seas Cruises, made its inaugural call to St. Kitts today, December 12th, 2021, at 11:00 am, making it two consecutive days the destination has received inaugural cruise calls Yesterday having been visited by the magnificent MSC Seaview for the first time.

Like all lines, the luxury cruise lines are growing and they need new passengers to fill their suites. That’s what they’re called on a luxury ship by the way: Suites. Not cabins. So the luxury lines are trying their best to get you to make the jump to the world of small ships and big prices. But is it worth all that extra money?
Taking a luxury cruise is a bit like going to the “Cheers” bar, everybody knows your name except this bar is at the Ritz-Carlton.
I’m writing this story from my cruise vacation, a 17-night Atlantic crossing from Monte Carlo to Rio de Janeiro on the Regent Seven Seas Mariner. Regent Seven Seas Cruises is one of the four top-rated luxury cruise lines along with Silversea, Seabourn, and Crystal. In 20 years of cruising and more than 30 cruises I’ve sailed about 10 times on Regent. Most of the other cruises have been on Princess and Holland America, two very popular premium cruise lines, the ones that fall just below the luxury classification and include most of the lines on which Americans like to sail. Regent is the only luxury line I have taken, although all four luxury brands are excellent and have loyal followings.
Sailing on a luxury line usually costs anywhere from $400-$900 per person, per day depending on the itinerary. A similar cabin on Princess would cost half as much or less. So what’s the difference?
Is There A Minimum Age To Sail
Infants must be one year of age as of the first day of the cruise. Guests travelling with a young infant that does not meet the infant policy will be denied boarding. No refunds or other compensation shall be due from Regent Seven Seas Cruises to anyone as a result of the denial of boarding to an underage infant or any accompanying guests. Any guest under the age of 18 must be accompanied by and occupy the same suite as an adult 18 years or older. Regent Seven Seas Cruises does not provide for the care, entertainment or supervision of children. Guests under the age of 16 are not permitted to use the spa or fitness facilities, even if supervised by an adult.

Menus may appear to include the usual beef Wellington and Maine lobster, but in the hands of Regent Seven Seas chefs the results are some of the most outstanding meals at sea. Specialty dining varies within the fleet, but Seven Seas Voyager and Seven Seas Mariner,

Do I have to dress up on a Regent Seven Seas cruise?
Regardless of the actual dress code, Regent passengers do dress up for dinner. Daytime wear is casual , up until 6 p.m., when it changes to “elegant casual” except on the final night of the cruise or when dining at the pool grill or bar. T-shirts, shorts, baseball caps and sneakers are not allowed in any public area in the evening, but you’ll usually find people take the dress code further, favoring the “elegant” part of the dress code over the “casual,” with skirts or slacks paired with blouses or sweaters, pant suits or dresses for ladies and slacks and collared shirts for men. Jackets are optional, but they’re fairly common.
On cruises longer than two weeks, there will also be two optional formal nights, when many passengers opt for even more formal dress.
