Why This Cruise Line Is Betting Big On New York City

MSC Meraviglia – Coming to New York and the Caribbean in 2019!

MSC Cruises is the third largest cruise line in the world and the worlds fastest growing cruise line. The company recently christened its latest ship, MSC Seascape, during a glittering launch in New York Citymarking a new commitment to the city for the European-based line.

MSC loves New York and New Yorkers love MSC, says Rubén A. Rodríguez, president of MSC Cruises USA. The reason were naming Seascape in New York is to honor the city and also as a prelude to Meraviglia coming to New York as its new home.

In April 2023, MSC Meraviglia will be sailing from Brooklyns Red Hook cruise terminal year-round with a wide variety of itineraries to the Bahamas, Bermuda, Florida, Canada and New England. Meraviglia will also have longer winter sailings to the Caribbean that include stops at MSCs private island, Ocean Cay, a marine reserve in the Bahamas.

In recent years, New York City has become an increasingly competitive and important cruise market with terminals in Brooklyn and Manhattan. A number of ships sail from the city seasonallysuch as Norwegian Cruise Lines Breakaway. And like MSC, some lines are choosing to have ships based there year-round. Carnival recently announced that it will be basing the Carnival Venezia in New York starting in June 2023.

The MSC Seascape was recently christened in New York Citypart of MSC Cruises’ new commitment to the … city.

MSC Cruises has increased its emphasis on the New York and American cruise markets with the launch of its newest ship, the MSC Seascape. Founded 30 years ago, the cruise line has 21 ships and is working on two more.

The MSC Seascape, the largest cruise ship built in Italy and her sister ship, the MSC Seaview, is the final of four cruise ships built for MSC by Fincantieri. Fincantieris innovative design maximises indoor and outdoor space for both passengers and crew and boosts the ships earnings potential and popularity. With this design, the ships main engine rooms are moved to the ships centre of gravity, improving the vessels stability and hydrodynamics.

The MSC Seascape and the Seaside Evo Class sister ship are 1,112 feet long, making them around 11% longer than the previous class ships, which were launched in 2017 and 2018. With a combined passenger capacity of 2,270, the ships have a gross tonnage of 170,412. The MSC Yacht Club, located aboard the MSC Seaside and boasting 131 suites, is the largest private suite enclave on any MSC cruise ship, and it can accommodate a maximum of 5,877 passengers.

The MSC Seascape, built by Fincantieri, set sail on its maiden voyage across the Atlantic on 16 November and arrived in New York on 21 November. On 11 December began her maiden voyage out of Miami.

“New York City was the natural choice when we picked our next U.S. port because it’s so accessible, whether the guest is coming from somewhere nearby or from around the world,” Rubén Rodríguez, the president of MSC Cruises USA, said in a statement shared with T+L. “We designed our mix of itineraries to take advantage of New York’s geographic flexibility, so that you can soak up the springtime sun in the Caribbean, head to Bermuda over the summer, or go north to see Canada’s natural beauty in the fall.”

The MSC Meraviglia can hold up to 5,700 guests and offers 20 bars, 12 restaurants, and even a water park and ropes course to entertain passengers of all ages. The ship will sail six to 11-night cruises, including to MSC’s private island in the Bahamas, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve.
