How Does Our Ticket Pricing Work

Beginning in 2020, Circle Line switched to a dynamic pricing approach to setting ticket prices. What does this mean? It means that generally speaking you will find our tickets priced lower during times with less demand, like Monday through Thursday and during the colder months of October through February. We do this because our boats have a limited capacity of 600 people. We’d rather encourage everyone to be spread out among all days of the week, rather than having completely packed boats on the weekends and nearly empty boats during the week. We didn’t think of this, of course. This idea comes from airlines and hotels. We do not use dyanmic pricing with our special events like New Year’s Eve, 4th of July and Hudson River Fall Foliage Cruises.

River Cruises To West Point

Where do I look for a cruise up the Hudson to or above West Point? I have taken the Circle Line cruise around the Island 2-3 times and would like to see West Point and the Hyde Park area if at all possible. We will probably be there in Sept or early Oct. Thanks in advance.

You might get better answers by posting in the Hudson Valley travel forum.

Historically that product was called Hudson River Dayliner or Day Line. You can still get hits on Google from that, although I don’t know how many companies actually offer the trip. It would not be every day of the week, to be sure.

NYC formerly had an operation called the Day Line that would leave Manhattan in morning, stop at Bear Mountain, West Point, proceed further north and then turn about making the same stops on the return. Unfortunately, this ended many years ago and this historic side wheel ship sank in Staten Island. The cruises I see start much further north and you would have to find a way to get there. West Point became far less accessible after 9-11 and I believe you are still required to be on a guided tour to enter the grounds. Of course, you are always able to view it from the water. Hyde Park is quite a ways up river and a boat from NYC would take a long time to get there. There are trains up the east side of the Hudson with car/van service to the Hyde Park attractions. There are no trains currently on the west side of the Hudson.

Probably easier to do by train or rental car – esp if Hyde Park is important.

Bringing Food/drink On Circle Line Cruise

I’ve done a search and can’t seem to find my answer….

Does anyone have any experience bringing food and drinks on a Circle Line cruise? I’m not referring to a meal with wine, just a snack and something cold to drink.

We are doing the 2 1/2 hour cruise Friday afternoon.

Thanks in advance.

I dont know of a 2 1/2 hr. Circle Line cruise. If you mean the full 3 hr. cruise, I found this page which states you can bring your own food and non alcoholic drinks.

nywhiz – According to the Circle Line website, the cruise is 2 1/2 hours. You had me doubting myself, so I double checked. The time is noted to the left of the prices.

I think I’ve read somewhere that they may check bags on boarding. Hence the reason for me asking.

When I did the full island tour in June I took a bottle of water and a meal/snack bar . No one checked bags that I recall, but if they did they didn’t mind.

Thanks george00. Think we will do the same and just play innocent if found out.

There was no bag check and I strongly recommend taking your own snacks & drinks on board, the offerings were basic and expensive

We took the chance and bought a bottled water and 2 small, personal sized bottles of cold prosecco . Tucked them all in our bag.

There was a “bag search” and I use that term VERY loosely.

We enjoyed our prosecco discreetly, not that there was any staff around to notice.

We saw others with “food” . I would highly recommend bringing a few snacks.

How did you like the cruise, btw? Was it the full island one?

Ecosystem Collapse Pollution And Health

Throughout most of the history of New York City, and before it, the East River has been the receptacle for the city’s garbage and sewage. “Night men” who collected “night soil” from outdoor privies would dump their loads into the river, and even after the construction of the and then the gave rise to , the waste that was flushed away into the , where it mixed with ground runoff, ran directly into the river, untreated. The sewers terminated at the slips where ships docked, until the waste began to build up, preventing dockage, after which the outfalls were moved to the end of the piers. The “landfill” which created new land along the shoreline when the river was “wharfed out” by the sale of “water lots” was largely garbage such as bones, offal, and even whole dead animals, along with excrement human and animal. The result was that by the 1850s, if not before, the East River, like the other waterways around the city, was undergoing the process of where the increase in from excrement and other sources led to a decrease in free , which in turn led to an increase in such as and a decrease in other life forms, breaking the area’s established food chain. The East River became very polluted, and its animal life decreased drastically.
