Carnival Announces Additional Ship Restarts But Jacksonville Isnt On Sept Oct List

Carnival Cruise Line is planning to continue ramping its operations back up in September and October, but so far Jacksonvilles Carnival Ecstasy doesnt have a firm back-in-service date.

Carnival announced Monday that sailings from Jacksonville will be canceled through Oct. 31, implying that sometime in November would be the earliest that cruises from JAXPORT might resume.

In September, Carnival is planning to put three ships back in service: Carnival Glory from New Orleans, starting Sept. 5, Carnival Pride from Baltimore, starting Sept. 12, and Carnival Dream from Galveston, starting Sept. 19.

Then in October, four additional ships are scheduled to restart: Carnival Conquest from Miami, effective Oct. 8, Carnival Freedom from Miami, effective Oct. 9, Carnival Elation from Port Canaveral, effective Oct. 11, and Carnival Sensation from Mobile, effective Oct. 21.

“We are very excited about our restart and greatly appreciate the support of our guests, travel agents and port and destination partners,” said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, in a news release. “By the end of July, we will have five ships in our restart plan, including the introduction of service on Mardi Gras, and we are seeing a great combination of strong demand and strong guest satisfaction scores tied to the positive guest experience on board.”

Carnival didnt address the Florida/CDC dispute in its Monday update, but did say:

Cruise Options To The Bahamas

Cruise passengers can choose from different itineraries. The four-day cruises make stops in Freeport, which is the second largest island in the Bahamas and is known for its national parks, underwater caves and Lucayan archaeological sites. In Freeport, tourists can go on a Jeep adventure, get up close to dolphins, or go sailing or kayaking. One of the four-day cruise itineraries also includes a day at Princess Cays, where passengers can rent private beach bungalows, go snorkeling, shop Bahamian crafts or tour the area on a dune buggy. Other four-day cruises have a one-day stop in Nassau, where passengers can swim with dolphins, sail on a catamaran and go snorkeling, or explore the capital city.

Those taking the five-day cruise can choose routes that stop in Nassau and Half Moon Cay or Nassau and Princess Cays. Half Moon Cay excursions include horseback riding, stingray experiences, snorkeling or going on a bike tour.

While rare, Carnival occasionally offers six or eight-day Bahamian cruises from Jacksonville. Cruise dates can be found on Carnivals website. Travelers coming to Florida should keep hurricane season in mind.

Travel Expert Expects Cruises Out Of Jacksonville To Resume In Late July

What cruise ships sail out of jacksonville fl, MISHKANET.COM

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. Cruises leaving from Florida are expected to resume this summer.

In the United States, cruise companies are still talking with federal, state and local officials about health measures and trial sailings. Royal Caribbean plans trial voyages starting later this month. Those pilot trips are required before cruise lines can operate regular sailings with less than 95% of passengers being vaccinated.

Test cruises will last for the next few weeks, said Scott Lara, The Cruise Genius and travel expert. Once these test cruises are over and all the protocols are met, looks like we are going to revenue cruises.

Lara is optimistic with cruises resuming.

I believe cruising is going to be very safe, safer than before because of everything thats going on, Lara said. The enhanced ventilation, the sanitation and everything is going to be great.

RELATED: Cruises from Florida may need to wait a little longer

Lara said there will be some changes to cruises due to the coronavirus pandemic.

We are going to be to do the same fun things, however, it is going to be staggered boarding — a little different because of COVID — and we all have to be safe on cruises, Lara said.

Lara said he expects cruises out of Jacksonville to resume by this summer.

The first cruise out of Jacksonville is scheduled for July 31.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Cruising With Carnival Elation

The ship that sails out of Jacksonville’s JAXPORT is the Elation, owned by Carnival Cruise Lines. The Elation debuted in 1998, and is part of Carnival’s Fantasy-class, which was concluded shortly after the Elation’s launch. While Carnival is concentrating on their bigger and newer vessels, Cruise Critic noted that the Elation has not been neglected.

In fact, it has undergone extensive upgrades under Carnival’s $350 million “Evolutions of Fun” program. In addition to upgrades with decks and buffet additions, Elation was also the first ship to be equipped with Azipod Propulsion. This state-of-the-art system helps with the ship’s maneuverability with the bonus of saving hull space.

The Elation can hold up to 2,130 passengers and is 855 feet in length. It operates itineraries that range from 2-5 days and 6-9 days. Part of the ship’s last upgrade included the addition of Guy’s Burger Joint , BlueIguana Cantina, the RedFrog Rum Bar, Build-A-Bear Workshop, and WaterWorks, Carnival’s onboard water park.

Not surprisingly, the itineraries out of Jacksonville are geared towards popular Caribbean spots, a specialty area for Carnival. There are also longer cruises to Bermuda.
