Safety First For Charleston Port
According to the South Carolina ports authority, guests can rest assured that they will find the cruise terminal fully prepared to deal with the thousands of guests who will pass through during embarkation days.
Liz Crumley with the South Carolina Ports Authority said in a statement: Following a long-term pause in cruise operations since March 2020 in response to the global pandemic, SC Ports has worked with cruise partners and DHEC to align with all CDC requirements and cruise line protocols as cruise operations resume,
When a ship is in the port, a team of people will disinfect high-touch areas constantly, including handrails, doorknobs, and other surfaces. Face masks will be mandatory inside the terminal and onboard the vessel at all times.

All guests will be required to be fully vaccinated at least 14 days before sailing, except if they received a vaccine exemption from Carnival Cruise Line in advance. The cruise line has also implemented extensive health and safety measures such as social distancing, increased sanitation, mask-wearing policies, and more.
Carnival is the only major cruise line to offer cruises departing from Charleston. In the upcoming months, Royal Caribbean does call on the southern city on occasional port calls onboard Enchantment of the Seas.

Savannah Says No To New $70m Cruise Terminal
The news late last month that Carnival Cruises will end its trips out of Norfolk was a blow to city leaders whoâd banked on the $37.4 million Half Moone terminal being a cruise ship center for decades to come.
In Savannah, Ga., it was an affirmation to those fighting a proposed new $70 million cruise terminal that the business wasnât worth chasing.
Savannahâs City Council effectively killed the terminal idea on the same day that Carnival announced it would pull out of Norfolk after October.
The Georgia seaport had spent $327,000 to study the proposal. That, the council decided, was enough.
âI am extremely concerned about the experience of other cities making such a large investment in something that, as far as Iâm concerned, is speculative,â Alderwoman-at-large Carol Bell was quoted by the Savannah Morning News as saying. âAnd the other thing, Iâm not sure a real business case has been made.â
âI thought this was a dumb idea before I got into office, and the closer I got to it as I sat on council, I thought it was a worse idea,â Alderman Tom Bordeaux added.
So Savannah is one port that Norfolk officials wonât have to worry about competing with as they work to lure Carnival back.

About The Carnival Fantasy
The leader of the Fantasy Class group of ships, the Carnival Fantasy is presently the cruise lines oldest working vessel. For those that dont know, the Carnival Fantasy debuted in 1990, scheduled during its first few years from Miami. At the time, the ship was the first to offer three- to four-night cruises from the Florida city to the Bahamas.
Three years later, the Carnival Fantasy would be based out of Mobile, Ala., and sent to Charleston, where it has since remained to the present.

At this time, other health and safety protocols remain in place aboard the cruise lines single ship, Grand Classica. This includes reduced capacity sailings to promote greater social distancing, upgraded cleaning and sanitation, staggered embarkation times, and other measures to protect both guests and crew members.

Return To The Seas: Carnival Sunshine To Set Sail From Charleston Beginning January 2022
CHARLESTON, S.C. Carnival Cruises will once again set sail from Charleston in early 2022 after being greatly impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
Carnival Cruise Line announced Wednesday they plan to have more ships restarts in January and February, with a goal of having its full fleet moving from U.S. homeports in Spring 2022.
In Charleston, Carnival Sunshine will restart on January 13th.
Our restart plan continues to excel across all metrics, and we are looking forward to completing the restart of the fleet in the new year, said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line. We appreciate the support and patience of our guests, travel agents and port and destination partners who have been key to this successful restart.
Duffy said the company will carefully monitor the status of public health and adjust its operating protocol as needed.
We are optimistic that vaccines will be approved for children between the ages of 5-11 before the end of the year and we look forward to welcoming more families back on board, she said.
Carnival will operate vaccinated cruises under its current protocols early next year.

Carnival Cruise Line is returning to Charleston after a 22-month hiatus.
As the first cruise ship to sail from South Carolina since the pandemic started, the Carnival Sunshine is resuming service from the homeport today.
Sailing from Charleston, the 2,964-guest vessel is kicking off a program of four- to ten-night cruises to the Bahamas and the Caribbean.
The first voyage includes a visit to Nassau, in the Bahamas, in addition to two days at sea for its four-night journey
The Sunshine is also visiting other destinations in the Bahamas during its year-round, including Bimini, Half Moon Cay and Princess Cays.
During the Caribbean itineraries, the vessel is set to call in other ports too, such as Turks and Caicos, Puerto Rico, Antigua, St. Maarten and St. Kitts.
The Carnival Sunshine entered service in 1996, as the Carnival Destiny. The largest cruise ship in the world at the time, the vessel holds another distinction it is the first cruise ship to exceed 100,000 tons.
In 2013, . The $155 million makeover included the complete rebuild of all public areas, in addition to the introduction of new partial decks, other features and more capacity.
