The Great Cruise Shutdown is finally coming to an end.
A growing number of cruise ships also;are restarting operations in Europe and other destinations around the world, and small vessels;have resumed operations on U.S. rivers and intracoastal waterways.
Still, only a very small fraction of the worlds cruise vessels are currently back to sailing. It could be many months before a majority of cruise vessels are operating, and some lines already have said it could be well into 2022 before they return to normal service.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 pandemic has thrown a wrench into the launch plans for startup lines Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection and Virgin Voyages. Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection has now pushed back its inaugural voyage to Nov. 10. Virgin Voyages has pushed back its big debut in Miami to the fall . Both lines were originally due to debut in 2020.

Also in the Los Angeles metro, the Long Beach Cruise Terminal is owned and operated by the Carnival Corporation. Most of the Carnival cruises departing from Los Angeles sail out of this facility. Before boarding your ship, you may want to check out the Long Beach Waterfront, which offers many attractions. You can take a guided tour aboard the Queen Mary, which has served as both a luxury liner and a World War II troop carrier. The Aquarium of the Pacific is also located on the waterfront, along with plenty of opportunities for shopping, dining and strolling along the coast.

The port’s largest cruise liner so far is NCL‘s Alaskan ship;Norwegian Bliss;. The maiden call was scheduled for October 3, 2018. San Francisco was the only call port on the 4-day Alaska repositioning cruise from Vancouver BC to Los Angeles CA. NCL Bliss arrived at 9 am and left port at 7 pm.
In 2017, the port handled a total of 286,352 cruise passengers. For 2018 were scheduled a total of 82 ship calls and estimated around 300,000 passengers.
Port San Francisco provides shore-to-ship power capabilities. The technology enables docked vessels to receive electricity from the city’s power grid. From the berth, vessels can plugin directly to the grid which allows full onboard operations without using the diesel engines . Unlike other cruise destinations from San Francisco, which can be visited on a roundtrip cruise, a Panama Canal cruise is always a one-way journey. These sailings typically are 15 days or more.
