When it comes to departure ports, its tough to beat a destination like Seattle. As a world-class city tucked into one of the most beautiful regions on the planet, theres a ton to see and do in the area. And thats before you even set foot on a cruise ship.

If youre sailing from Seattle, then you are almost assuredly headed to Alaska. The port serves as a jumping off point for Alaskan cruises, most of them lasting a week. Over the past decade or so Alaskan cruises have boomed in popularity, and with that so has traffic at the Port of Seattle.

Today the two terminals serve more than 1.2 million passengers in a year most of that during the busy summer Alaskan cruise season.

Hotels Near The Seattle Port

If youre flying in for your cruise, its always a good idea to plan to arrive a day early. This way if anything goes awry with your flights delays, weather, computer issues, etc. then you still have plenty of time to get to the port on cruise day.

But when flying into Seattle, we suggest everyone arrive an extra day or two, simply because there is a lot to see and do in the area.

Because Seattle sees a large number of tourists and because the cruise ports are located near downtown, there are a number of hotels in the area. One thing to note is that downtown hotels can be more expensive than staying outside of the city center. If you are trying to save a few bucks, you can stay near the airport, which often has cheaper rates.

Alaska Cruises From Seattle

Cruise & Tour Tips – Seattle Washington in “One Day” Part 1 – The Cruise Dudes

Alaska is the major destination for cruises departing from Seattle, which head out of Puget Sound and follow the Inside Passage along the coasts of British Columbia and Alaska. The island-dotted landscape, lined by majestic snow-capped mountains all the way to Alaska, makes every day of these popular voyages spectacular. Seven-day, round-trip cruises generally feature three or four ports of call, which are commonly Juneau, Sitka, Skagway or Ketchikan, and Victoria, BC, as well as scenic cruising around Glacier Bay or Tracy Arm Fjord. Seven-day, one-way cruises from Seattle venture into the Gulf of Alaska, reaching as far north as Seward. One-way cruises mean seeing more of the state, but they require a return flight from Alaska, which can be more costly and less convenient than returning to Seattle. Another option for cruise-goers who want a more in-depth experience is a longer cruise. Oceania has a 10-night Alaska cruise from Seattle, and Holland America has a 12-day itinerary.

What Should Visitors See During Their Time In Seattle

Seattle is such an amazing city. Due to its unique proximity to Alaska and Canada, it offers tourists the opportunity to travel to unique travel destinations. Seattle is one of the few ports that offers cruises that travel through the Pacific Northwest, Canada, and Alaska.

Although Seattle is just a starting point, view it as an additional destination for your trip. When you arrive, take the opportunity to travel through the Pike Place Market. This market is home to many vendors that sell unique foods and souvenirs to travelers. After visiting this market, try the infamous clam chowder that can be found in restaurants around the city. From there, consider visiting the Space Needle, the downtown district, or a nearby national or state park. With so many large mountains in close proximity, there are many places that allow you to see immense beauty.

People often enjoy taking the opportunity to eat amazing seafood during their time in Seattle. In addition to the attractions listed above, people enjoy venturing to see the Ballard Locks, Chihuly Gardens, the Pop Culture Museum, and Bainbridge.
