New Disney Cruise Line Vaccine Requirements Now In Effect

Posted by: Krysten Swensen January 13, 2022

Back in November, Disney Cruise Line announced that they would soon be requiring all Guests who are able to receive the vaccine to be vaccinated before they are able to embark on one of DCLs amazing cruises. Originally, the vaccination requirement was only in place for those Guests 12 and over, but when the CDC approved vaccines for children as young as 5, Disney Cruise Line changed its policy as well. Disney gave Guests a couple of months notice and now the time is here Disney Cruise Lines new vaccine requirements officially go into effect today.

If you are going on a Disney Cruise or looking into booking a Disney Cruise here is what you need to know about the vaccination requirements. Per the Disney Cruise Line website:

Currently, Disney Cruise Line continues to require all vaccine-eligible Guests to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, as defined by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , at the time of sailing. This is a requirement for all Guests ages 5 and older. Guests who are not vaccine-eligible because of age must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test result taken between 3 days and 24 hours before their sail date. Guests ages 4 and under must complete the testing requirements. The test should be a NAAT test, rapid PCR test or lab-based PCR test. Rapid antigen tests are not accepted.

How Much Does A Disney Cruise Cost

Magic aint cheap, and Disney cruises are expensive. They arent the priciest voyages out there, but they will cost more than family-friendly competitors such as Royal Caribbean by a noticeable margin.

For a family of four, the cheapest Disney cruise currently available in 2021 or 2022 is just over $2,000 but both of the cheapest options are for two-night cruises on the West Coast. The cheapest price for a family of four on a three-night cruise from Port Canaveral to Nassau and Castaway Cay in an inside stateroom is currently about $2,500. An ocean view will add about $70 and a verandah will add about $200.

On these shortest cruises, concierge-level staterooms and access start at about $5,000 for a family of four.

Those sorts of prices will only be available during the offseason, such as in mid- to late January and early February. That same cruise during spring break can cost double, so the more date flexibility you have, the better.

A seven-night cruise, such as one going from Cape Canaveral to the Western Caribbean, or from San Diego to the Mexican Riviera, will likely start around $5,000 for a family of four. Expect Alaska and European cruises to start at $5,000 to $6,000 for inside cabins for a week, and go up in price for longer sailings and upgraded staterooms.

What You Need To Know Before Your First Disney Cruise ...

There are several places the Disney Cruise sails to around the world. As mentioned earlier, Disney cruises sail to the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Europe, Mediterranean, Denmark, Alaska, Canada, Bermuda, the British Isles, Pacific Coast, Panama Canal, and other Specialty destinations.

7 of the most popular ports of call for various Disney Cruise Lines are as follows:

  • Disney Castaway Cay
  • Port Canaveral, Florida

Or If You Like Your Dining Venues To Be Whimsical Rather Than Formal

Disney does a great job at making dinner fun for young cruisers, who might not have the patience for a multicourse meal. Animator’s Palate features different “shows” on the four ships, including conversations with Crush the Turtle from “Finding Nemo” and an animated sequence featuring diners’ drawings. Royal Court and Royal Palace take a Disney castle theme, wowing kids obsessed with Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast. Even Palo, the adults-only venue, allows people to wear jeans, and the upscale Remy, while requiring dressy attire, has an adorable rat motif, inspired by the movie “Ratatouille.”

    The Faroe Islands Cruise Boycott

In 2014, Disney was the first of all three cruise ship companies that banned Faroe Islands as destination part of their North European itineraries.

The boycott is due to the island nation’s traditional mass slaughter of pilot whales each year. The protected by Denmark gruesome practice of killing whales is called âGrindadrap Grind”. Locals use motorboats to drive a pod of whales into a harbor. The defenseless animals are dragged to the shallow water and brutally slaughtered by locals armed with knives while their families cheer them on. The killing party even rip out baby whales from their mothers.

The Faroe Islands have a population of ~50,000 and kill each year 1000+ pilot whales. You can see the cruise ship schedule of Torshavn – Faroe’s most visited port. All cruise lines with scheduled visits to the Faroes are accused of supporting the brutal whaling practices. Whaling is still officially approved and carried out by the “civilized” countries Japan, Norway, and Iceland, killing over 2000 whales each year and trading in whale products.

Disney’s response was to the “Faroese Pilot Whaling Act” by the local government, which continues to allow pilot whales to be culled or massacred. It also empowers local authorities to imprison people found guilty of impeding these whaling activities – despite all the international condemnations.

    Disney Signature Experiences Unit

Soon after a March 2018 conglomerate wide reorganization that formed Disney Parks, Experiences and Products segment division, Disney Cruise Line and New Vacation Operations was renamed Disney Signature Experiences along with a new president, Jeff Vahle.

Disney Cruise Line purchased in early March 2019 another Bahamas destination, Lighthouse Point property on the island of Eleuthera from the Bahamas Government. The cruise line was looking for another Bahamas location since the announcement of the third ship expansion in 2016.

In February 2020, Disney Wonder moved its home port to New Orleans. From March 14 until July 2021, Disney Cruise Line ships suspended operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sailings resumed in the form of “Staycation Cruises”, closed loop cruises of 2 to 4 nights from the United Kingdom ports of Liverpool, Southampton, Newcastle, and Tilbury for London.

    Disney Dream

The Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy entered service in January 2011 and March 2012, respectively. These ships were built at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. These new 129,690-ton ships are 339.5 m long and 36.8 m wide. They are two decks taller than the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder and have 1,250 staterooms each. You might find a science lab or animation studio, as well as areas for crafts, games and videos. Play areas for the youngest cruisers will be filled with toys, while tweens and teens will have dance floors, gaming stations and space to socialize. Both lines provide day and evening options for when families need to go their separate ways.

Both Disney and Royal Caribbean offer group babysitting in their respective kids clubs at nights, so parents can enjoy a late meal or some time in the bars and clubs. However, after 10 p.m., Royal Caribbean charges an hourly fee per kid, while Disney remains free of charge.

Choose Disney Cruise Line If You Are More Interested In The Destination And Disney Cruise Experience

While there are some nuanced differences among the four Disney cruise ships, you will get most of the same entertainment opportunities, dining venues and cabin types fleetwide. Most people decide they want to experience Disney’s superb attention to detail and entertainment mastery, choose a destination and end up on the ship that goes there — rather than selecting a ship first.

    Saving On A Disney Cruise

Do You Need a Passport to go on a Disney Cruise ...

With so many extra charges that are not included in a basic fare, the cruise vacation deal that may have seemed relatively inexpensive to start can quickly become much more costly than anticipated. Fortunately, there are also many ways to save, protecting a vacation budget without sacrificing the Disney magic of the getaway.

Working with an authorized Disney Vacation Planner is the best way to save, as these experts can access bonuses and promotional offers such as free stateroom upgrades, included ship credits, and more, which can all bring down the overall cost of the vacation. Expert planners can also help advise eager travelers on the best Disney cruise ships and itineraries to meet and exceed their cruise vacation dreams while working within practical budget expectations.

Guests should research their cruise plans thoroughly before booking, and be reasonable about their own budget and what they expect to purchase during the cruise. Looking at the cruise as an opportunity to unplug from the digital world can save money on WiFi connection plans, for example, or staying onboard the ship to enjoy all its amazing features instead of spending money on multiple Port Adventures can be a great savings. If the vacation can be planned at a less expensive time of year to set sail, that can also lead to significant savings.
