Are Disney Cruises Fun For Adults

Don't Miss

There Are Many Adults

Disney Cruise Fun for Adults! Disney Wonder 2016

Just as kids have pools and clubs, so do adults.

On every Disney Cruise ship, there are pools, sundecks, and hot tubs that are only allowed for 18 and up. And these arent small spaces either. DCL gives adults room to spread out and the design of the ship keeps these areas completely isolated from the rest of the ship. Truly, you will not see nor hear kids in these areas.

On Castaway Cay, an expansive section of the island called Serenity Bay has been designated as adults-only and it includes a private beach, restaurant, and bar

Eating at Serenity Bay BBQ on Castaway Cay has its perks too, such as the absence of kids and thus shorter lines. It also usually provides entrees like grilled steak that arent available at the family restaurants on the island.

Disney Cruise Line Features Palo One Of Disneys Best Eateries

One of Disneys very best restaurants is on board its cruise ships. Palo, an elegant Italian eatery, features oceanside views and rich mahogany interiors inspired by the Venetian canals. This upcharge experience features a la carte items for dinner, with highlights such as a shellfish ciuppin soup, a Dover sole filleted tableside and a slow-roasted veal shank that includes a surprise side of bone marrow. Palo also offers a brunch buffet with shellfish, charcuterie, pastries and an a la carte menu with soups, pancakes, egg dishes, pasta and more. Its indulgent, for sure, but its also a romantic escape perfect for honeymooners.

Dining On Disney Cruise Line

The dining experience aboard Disneys ships is different than at any other line, in that guests automatically rotate among several different restaurants, and bring their waiters with them. On one night, guests dine in the ships elegant main restaurant; on the next, theyre in a second, more whimsical restaurant with a tropical or enchanted-garden theme. And the next night, they dine in Animators Palate, a kid-oriented restaurant themed on a film animators studio. Theres also a romantic but casual, adults-only restaurant called Palo, serving Italian specialties. And, aboard the;Disney Dream;and;Disney Fantasy, theres Remy, a high-end dining spot that goes for a sublime, Parisian feel, with French-inspired cuisine.

Spend Time At The Quiet Cove Pool

Lets start our list of things for adults to do on a Disney Cruise with my favorite activity: spending time at the Quiet Cove Pool. This onboard adults-only oasis;is home to a pool, whirlpool spas, and bar. The padded lounge chairs are perfect for reading a book, taking a nap, or just relaxing. If you skip a cruise port and stay on the boat, you can often have the Quiet Cove Pool all to yourself, like we did.;

Dine And Play Program

Disney Cruises for Adults: How Adults Can Enjoy Disney Cruises

Want to have a family meal, but still keep everyone happy? The Dine and Play program is just the answer. You have dinner with your kids during the second seating, but the little ones meals are expedited so they come out with your appetizers. Then, 45 minutes into the meal, counselors come in to pick them up and bring them back to the club. They get to go play, and you get to finish your dinner in peace. Best of all, you can even have dessert and a nightcap before picking them up.

These People Will Love Disney Cruise Line

  • Families with children: This almost goes without saying with the Disney name, but a Disney cruise vacation obviously offers plenty of excitement and entertainment for the kids.
  • Adults too: Disney cruises are not just for kids, and there are sections of the ships, as well as activities, that are adults only.
  • Anybody who wants visit Walt Disney World: The obvious tie-in with the central Florida theme park is a huge tie-in for Disney as many guests go directly from Walt Disney World.

Relax At A Private Oasis

Serenity Bay is an adults-only oasis on Castaway Cay, Disneys private island in the Bahamas. If your cruise itinerary takes you to Castaway Cay, opt to spend your day at this peaceful beach. Whether you want to relax, engage in water activities, listen to live music or have a drink at the Open Air Bar, adults will love spending time at Serenity Bay.

Play Trivia And Make Some Friends

Fathom All-New Levels of Fun for Adults | Disney Cruise Line

We did trivia twice on this cruise and wished we had done them all! Each day there are different options for trivia from Disney to Pixar to TV Theme Songs and Music by decade. There are small prizes for the winning team but we just had a great time testing our memories!

You should have heard the groans in the room when we ALL realized we forgot the theme song to Home Improvement. Has it really been that long? Music trivia was even more fun as everyone sang along as we tallied up the scores.;

What I love about trivia is that it was during the day so parents could join in. Even though our kids stayed up way past their bedtimes, it was nice that the adult fun wasnt limited to nighttime.

Adults Love the Aquaduck Too

The big slide on the Disney Dream is called the Aquaduck and if you ask me, its a must-do for parents when the kids are being cared for.

Our youngest isnt quite ready for this slide so we always have to split up when the kids are with us. So when they were in the kids club, we threw on our suits and took the plunge together!

It was so awesome to ride on the double raft giggling and splashing like kids all the way around the ship. We may be grown up but we still know how to have fun!;

We had a great time on the Disney Dream with AND without our kids and this was just the beginning! I cant wait to share more.;

Do you think Disney cruises are awesome for adults? What are your favorite things to do at sea?

Disney World Unique Access Tours For Adults

Consider Travel Insurance For Your Disney Cruise

Because youre likely to book far in advance to secure better prices and popular adult Disney Cruise activities, travel insurance is especially important. A lot of unexpected things can happen between the time you book your cruise and when you take your trip, and having the right amount of coverage allows you to anticipate your trip with added peace of mind.

You may want to do a bit of research before opting for standard Disney Cruise insurance to ensure you have enough coverage for possible trip cancellations, missed connections and emergency medical evacuations based on your unique needs.

We offer three travel protection plans with coverages that fit well with any cruise trip, especially a Disney Cruise. You can pick the one that suits your needs best.

Serenity Bay At Castaway Cay

Disneys private island Castaway Cay has plenty of fun for everyone, and its the perfect place to have an adults-only beach day. Further away from the cruise pier, past the family beaches and shopping area, youll find another beach just for cruisers 18 and older. Its called Serenity Bay, and this relaxing oasis comes complete with cabanas, a bar, and its very own BBQ buffet with all of the same dishes that are offered at the family beach BBQs. If youre traveling as a group of adults and your voyage stops at this Bahamian island, Serenity Bay is the perfect spot to kick back and relax with a cocktail in hand.;

Tip: If you enjoy running or want to start your Castaway Cay day bright and early, consider signing up for the Castaway Cay 5K. Its completely free, but spots fill up quickly so sign up as soon as you can on embarkation day. This is a family event, but for avid runners or those who just want a challenge, its a great way to get onto the island before the masses and get your heart pumping.

Disney Cruise Loyalty Program

The Adult Pool on Disney Magic

Disney Cruise Line has a simple loyalty program, the Castaway Club, with three elite status levels that you earn based on how many cruises youve taken with Disney. A three-night and 10-night cruise both just count as one sailing for these purposes.

Silver Castaway: One completed cruiseGold Castaway: Five completed cruisesPlatinum Castaway: 10 completed cruises

Related:;The TPG guide to cruise line loyalty programs

This isnt the kind of loyalty program where you earn free cruises the way you earn free flights with airline miles. Instead, as you go up in status, you earn perks and earlier access to booking cruises and activities which is key for getting those hard-to-snag adult dining or Castaway Cay cabana reservations.

Silver members can book new cruise itineraries one day before the general public, can book onboard activities 90 days before sailing, get a welcome back aboard gift , have access to a Castaway Club members-only line when boarding and access to a Castaway Club direct phone number.

Gold members have all of those perks but can book new sailings two days before the general public and can book onboard activities 105 days before sailing. Gold members also;can select their preferred port arrival time upon completion of eDocuments, which can mean more time to enjoy the ship that first day.

Coffee Shops And Snack Shops

Whats interesting about a Disney Cruise is that the snacks and pastries youll see in the coffee shop or kiosk are all included, but the specialty coffee will cost a little extra.

Drink prices are roughly similar to Starbucks, if not a notch lower. Be sure and ask for the Cafe Fanatic card if youre a regular as your sixth drink will be free.

In addition to the included ice cream, your ship may have some shops with ice cream that costs extra. This can get confusing to kids, so I want to warn you a bit ahead of time. On the Dream youll find Vanellopes, which is stuffed with candies, gelato and ice cream all for an extra charge.

Theres a juice bar on the Dream and Fantasy, but know that it also costs extra.

Can Adults Have Fun On A Disney Cruise

Yes, absolutely. Disney cruise ships have many areas reserved for adults. There are stylish bars and lounges, adult-oriented entertainment, and more, enough to keep the over-18s happy.

Now that you know the approximate cost of a Disney cruise, are you tempted to book one right away? Let us know in the comments if youve been on a Disney cruise or are planning to go on one soon. How much did the Disney cruise cost? And was it worth it?

Your Heart Might Just Melt

We went into our adult Disney cruise adventure extremely skeptical and prepared for the worst. We expected to be annoyed by kids and characters and glittery, sweet-talking princesses. Instead, we found there’s an odd sense of peace in watching those three elements combine. We dare any adult to hold back a smile as little girls in poufy dresses hug Belle and Snow White. Just go ahead and try not to be happy as you witness excited little boys asking Mickey for his autograph. By the end of our three days onboard, two grumpy, jaded grownups had remembered what it’s like to believe in magic.

Disneys Night Time Shows Will Entertain Them

DISNEY DREAM CRUISE FOR ADULTS – A Disney Cruise is fun for Adults Traveling Without Kids

Every night there is a different live show to entertain the guests. We had three shows, one for each night. The first night was The Golden Mickeys, then Beauty and the Beast, followed up by Disneys Believe. Beauty and the Beast is a Broadway caliber production and teens and parents will be blown away by the performances. Its a great time every evening for families to come together and enjoy a show.

Best Cruise Experience: Holland America

;Courtesy of;Holland America

  • Ship Name: MS Koningsdam
  • Itinerary: Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta

Holland Americas mid-sized fleet offers a more sophisticated cruise experience than most mainstream vessels, and although not adults-only, the MS Koningsdam offers a musically-themed cruise voyage that appeals to an older demographic. In the evening, there are instrumental concerts at Lincoln Center Stage, the BB King Blues Club, the two-story World Stage to Music Walk, Rolling Stone Rock Room, and Billboard Onboard an interactive setting for rock music. The ship also focuses on food and drink with live cooking demonstrations in Americas Test Kitchen and at Blend, a hands-on cocktail class. The 2,650-passenger Koningsdam sails to several destinations from the U.S., including sun-filled itineraries to the Mexican Riviera.;

Make Sure To Relax At The Quiet Cove Pool

No matter how you plan your Disney Cruise, be sure to carve out some time to enjoy the Quiet Cove Pool, an exclusive adult area on one of the top decks.

Whether you decide to swim, relax in the hot tub, grab a drink or soak up the sun, this watery oasis is a definite must-visit on your cruise.

Although daytime is the best time to enjoy the pool area, it may be crowded so I would even recommend taking a dip at night. Nothing beats relaxing under the stars.

Edge Tween Club For Children Aged 1114

When your kid outgrows the fun in the main kid club, dont worry, Edge is waiting just upstairs. Technically, Edge is for kids 11-14, but you can get your 10-year-old in with permission and once they figure that out, its probably all over for the little kid club.

Edge is a much smaller space, but tweens have tons of fun here playing video games, having dance parties, doing crafts, playing trivia games, etc., with their newfound cruise friends.

This club does not utilize parent sign-in and -out, so you need to trust your kid if they are coming to Edge.

The Food Options On Board Are Plentiful

Fun Cruises For Adults

Whether your teens are health conscious or love to eat, theres something for them on board. Buffet breakfasts, sit down dinners, take-and-carry pizza and burgers, a fantasy dessert shop, endless soft serve ice cream, there is food in abundance for growing teens. If you have picky eaters, they are sure to find something too.

Teens with food allergies should know that Disney takes allergies very seriously. Every dinner we had the same server who was aware of our tables food allergies. If our son wasnt sure about a certain food, he could always ask a staff member and they would find out if a food was safe. Disney is tops in my book when it comes to food allergies.

You Can Be A Kidif You Want

There ARE opportunities to see characters the most obvious is the Sail Away party. There’s another opportunity to see characters when you get to Castaway Cay, if it’s on your itinerary. But otherwise you have to look at the daily Navigator schedule to really find characters.

There have been cruises I hardly see any characters at all. You don’t see them unless you’re specifically on the prowl and in the exact designated location at the exact time the Cruise Navigator says they’ll be appearing. Which, if you think about it, is kind of the same way it is at the Disney theme parks.

Reasons A Disney Cruise Is Perfect For Teens

As children grow older and family dynamics change, it isnt easy to find a vacation that appeals to all ages. Teens dont always want to spend time with mom and dad, and sometimes its the other way around. Thankfully, a Disney Cruise is the best of both worlds. A Disney Cruise with teens offers a healthy balance of family time and independence, leaving everyone happy.

*We enjoyed a cruise on the Disney Dream as part of the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration. All of these opinions are 100% my own.

We recently spent three days on the Disney Dream and our kids loved. Both our teen and tween did not want to leave the ship , and they made new friends they now want to travel with everywhere we go. My husband and myself enjoyed some fun moments without kids at the adult pool and margarita making class. Every evening we came together for movies or a show and a family dinner, but the kids couldnt wait to get back to their friends. I asked my son what his favorite reasons were for taking the cruise and together we came up with this list with reasons teens will love a Disney cruise.
