Does Disney Cruise To Alaska

Choose Royal Caribbean If You Love Broadway Shows

A Momâs Take: Packing for a Disney Cruise to Alaska

Six ships feature Broadway or London West End musicals on every sailing. You can watch “Hairspray” on Symphony of the Seas, “We Will Rock You” on Anthem of the Seas, “Cats” on Oasis of the Seas, “Mamma Mia!” on Allure of the Seas and “Grease” on Independence of the Seas and Harmony of the Seas. And if you love the theater, don’t worry; in rotation with the big production are guest acts and song-and-dance shows developed for the cruise line.

Request A Window Seat For Dining From Your Disney Cruise Planner

Why get a window seat for dinner? So you can look out of the window! Also, a lot of the bigger tables are more towards the inside, and if you are a small party, you have less of a chance of having to share a table with dinner mates.

When we travel, we are usually a party of 3, and luckily for us, we didnt have to share a table with other people.

If Youre Ready To Book I Suggest Checking Out Disney Cruise Deals At Three Places:

  • Costco Travel: If youre already a Costco member, they might have the best Disney cruise deal for you. Instead of an onboard credit, you get a Costco gift card. Their online interface is great, immediately showing you how much your gift card will be, based on your sail date and cabin type.
  • Cruise Direct: A very popular, well-established website for booking cruises. Their search function is fantastic, including ship features and customer ratings. Quickly compare cruise prices, sailings and companies. Cruise Direct also offers competitive onboard credits, no booking fees and flexible payment plans.
  • Dreams Unlimited Travel: Where I booked our upcoming May 2021 Disney cruise, because they clearly include taxes with their onboard credit. This bumped us up to the higher onboard credit. Plus, they offer a gift basket with cruise essentials, which I think is a nice touch. Their website isnt nearly as easy to use as Cruise Direct, though, so I mostly did my research elsewhere. So far, Ive had excellent personal customer service.

Arent you excited?! My goodness, we sure are!

Alaska Disney Cruise Ships

Sail to Alaska aboard the Disney Wonder, a 2,700-passenger ship with 11 decks of fun to explore. The Disney Wonder exemplifies Disney’s standard of sleek style and dashes of fun; the ship itself is painted in colors you’ll recognize – red, gold and black – along with those famous Mickey ears. Renovated in 2006, the ship is filled with delicious restaurants, whimsical entertainment spaces, comfortable and spacious staterooms, and so much more. Most rooms are built for family travel, and can accommodate 3 to 5 guests, and many offer ocean views or private verandahs. The fun never stops onboard a Disney Cruise – would you expect anything less from a company known for spreading joy?

Alaska Cruise Do #8 Late Dinner Seating Means You Wont Feel Rushed While Ashore

Travel Deals: Disney puts Alaska cruises on sale

Late seating for dinner for our cruise was 8:15PM but when you factor in what time zone you came from, it may feel even later. Another universal truth when cruising is there is no shortage of food.

My recommendations on the Disney Wonder include Boiler Bites, Pinocchios Pizzeria, or even room service. This will get you over the late afternoon/early evening cravings. Our favorites were the gyros at Boiler Bites.

On disembarkation day, those with the late seating at dinner also enjoyed a later breakfast before leaving the ship.

And I mentioned that there was 1 Dont:

Attend The Muster Drill You Have To

After all, guests are on board, right before the Sail Away Party, all services on the Ship cease and everyone must go to their respective evacuation spots for the Muster Drill.

Do. Not. Show. Up. Late. The quicker everyone is in their spots and accounted for, the quicker you can get to the sail away party.

Book Your Flight To Arrive 1

The worst, most stressful thing you can do is arrive in Vancouver the same day as the cruise. So many things can go wrong while flying.

You miss your connection. Your luggage gets lost. Your flight is delayed. You dont want to deal with any of these things on Embarkation day.

Instead, get to Vancouver 1-4 days before your cruise. There are so many things to see and do in Vancouver that you will not miss out! Check out this 4 day itinerary We stayed at the Delta Vancouver Hotel and Suites Downtown.

Choose Disney Cruise Line If You Are More Interested In The Destination And Disney Cruise Experience

A Momâs Take: An Alaska Cruise Like Only Disney Can Do

While there are some nuanced differences among the four Disney cruise ships, you will get most of the same entertainment opportunities, dining venues and cabin types fleetwide. Most people decide they want to experience Disney’s superb attention to detail and entertainment mastery, choose a destination and end up on the ship that goes there — rather than selecting a ship first.

Prepare With Your Mobility Device

If you are bringing on a mobility device on board, make sure to email Disney to let them know by filling out this form 60 days before departing.

One of the best things about registering your mobility device is that any of the Port Adventures you pre-booked Disney Cruise Line will ensure that the adventure is suitable for your individual needs.

Take Advantage Of All There Is To Learn

Almost every day of your cruise, there will be some opportunity to learn about Alaskan culture, history, or wildlife. Plan to attend one of the expert presentations offered in the Walt Disney Theater or you can view many of them on the TV in your stateroom.

These talks will help give you a new perspective on everything that is going on around you and can be a great way to make the cruise an educational experience for you and your family.

There is a naturist onboard who will come on the PA system to teach cruisers about the wildlife in Alaska. They will also point out where to stand on the ship if you want to catch a glimpse of whales and eagles. Make sure you have waterproof and fog-proof binoculars nearby to get a better look at these amazing animals. We recommend purchasing binoculars prior to your cruise as they are very pricey on board or at the ports.

Disney Cruises: Onboard Activities

Theres enough to do aboard a Disney cruise to keep everyone entertained from early in the morning until late at night. So much to do, in fact, that youll have to make choices about what to attend and what to give up.

Laid upon your bed each evening, beside the chocolates, is a TV Guide-style sheet called the Personal Navigator, which lets you plan the following day in detail.

First up is the Adventures Away partyafter you check out your stateroom and attend a mandatory assembly drill, you head up to the top deck for a high-energy bon voyage celebration, starring Mickey, Minnie, and friends. ;Then, for the remainder of the cruise, youre constantly choosing from a long list of activities.

There are character greetings around the boat . There are free, first-run movie screenings at the theaters. Theres an outdoor splash zone and swimming pool , plus a huge waterslideworth it especially for the exhilarating view from the topand a top-floor gym, which also affords a wide-ocean view. You can get a spa treatment, play Bingo, or make crafts. You can take your kids to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, where they get transformed into princesses and pirates . Or you can send them off to the kids clubs while you enjoy the nightlife at After Hours, the stylish and boozy adult district.

You can also, of course, eat.

And The One Dont: Dont Overpack

Disney Vacations: Find the Perfect Disney Package for Your ...

We packed way too much. This is easy to do. After all, when encouraged to bring lots of layers and preparing for varying weather, boots and bulky jackets/coats take up a lot of luggage space. Yes, to that extent, packing for changes in weather and the range of 30-80 degrees can be tricky. But heres the secret to save money on checked bag feesDo laundry onboard.

When To Get The Best Disney Cruise Deals

While you typically wont see many Disney cruise deals directly from Disney Cruise Lines, they do offer a few. Here are four that may apply to Disney cruises to Alaska:

  • 50% deposit: Offered in January to mid-February on new reservations , for bookings between June of the same year through May of the following year.
  • 25% Canadian reduction: Typically offered when new sail dates are released, but for higher-priced sail dates in the same year and specific cabin types; occasionally for Vancouver to Alaska cruises, but for pricier sail dates .
  • Military rate: Typically offered when new sail dates are released, but for higher-priced sail dates in the same year and specific cabin types; occasionally for Vancouver to Alaska cruises, but only on the first four sailings of the season.
  • Up to 25% on select sailings: Offered periodically, but typically for shorter cruises in the Bahamas and Caribbean and for specific cabin types with restrictions. This means that they choose the room for you, you must pay in full when booking, payment is non-refundable, and both the sail date and stateroom category cant be changed. I still havent seen this deal for Disney cruises to Alaska, but Ill keep checking.

Book Your Alcohol Tastings Online

You can book your alcohol tastings online, just like any other excursion! When we traveled to Alaska, I had to run to Guest Relations and beat down all the other guests to get to book my alcohol tastings.

The Alcohol tastings fill up fast, but many people do not even know about the tastings.

My favorite days to book an Alcohol tasting is on a sea day. I booked a few tastings at 10 pm while we were in Alaska, and it was rough.

Days At Sea And Evenings On The Disney Wonder

The best part of all these Port Adventures was that we knew at the end of the day wed be going back to the Disney Wonder, where there would be a wonderful meal and show, and all the things our Disney hearts could want and more.

First of all, I made it my mission to take a photo with every character I could find, and I think I succeeded. This is one of my faves with my pal Mickey:

And here is a bunch of photos of all the other characters I metproof that I took my mission seriously:

The Disney Wonder had so many amazing dining options, and every meal was memorable. Tritons Restaurant is themed after The Little Mermaid, just inside the ships atrium. Cabanas is more casual dining where I had many of my breakfasts. The deck outside of Cabanas is a great place to take in the view of the water and snack on all the things.

Tianas Place is a step inside New Orleans, with amazing gumbo and beignets. At one point during our meal, Tiana stopped by to ask how we were enjoying the food, and I was speechless and starstruck and shook, all at the same time.

Theres also live music throughout the evening that will have you dancing and smiling!

Fans of animation will love the dining experience at Animators Palate! Everyone at my table got to draw their own character, and at the end of the meal we saw those drawings come to life. Sorcerer Mickey even showed up as a surprise! Also, the entire room is covered in moving animations and sketches from Disney films, and its so beautiful!

Cruise Line & Cruise ShipDisney Cruise LineLauren Bowman August 13, 2019

Cruising Alaska is a dream vacation for most, and Disney Cruise Lines Disney Wonder offers the perfect itinerary to explore the 49th state. From the magnificent one-of-a-kind excursions to fantastic entertainment and the attentiveness of the staff, youll wish this cruise lasted longer.

If youre an adult wanting to plan your dream vacation, you may be thinking, Why would I want to spend this once in a lifetime trip on a kids ship? But thats the beauty of Disney Cruise Lines. There is such a strong focus on kids and the kids areas that many times throughout the day you can walk around the upper deck without seeing any kids at alltheyre too busy being entertained in their own unique areas.

Plus, the ship features special 24/7 adult-only areasincluding an upper deck pool, bar area, coffee shop and the exquisite restaurant, Palo. At night, even more areas aboard the ship transform into adult-only areasincluding the whole front portion of deck 3 known as After Hours.

Families traveling aboard the Disney Wonder have the option to interact with their kids as much or as little as they choose. Disneys Oceaneer Club and Lab is specially designed for children aged 3-12 and immerses them in the world of Disney.

The daycare areas are open from 9 amor will even open sooner if there is an earlier morning excursion on port daysand close at 11 pm.

Tide Pods And Dryer Sheets

We brought a couple of Tide Pods and dryer sheets to do laundry. Tide Pods came in handy for when we wanted to re-wear something or just had some spills. Also, doing laundry on board will help you pack fewer clothes in the long run. You can also do your dry cleaning while on the cruise by using Dryel as I did!

The Rooms On Disney Cruise Ships

Our accommodations were bigger than expected, with an extraordinarily comfortable platform bed. Seriously, I havent slept that well in ages. It may have been the ships gentle rocking that lulled me to sleep so quickly, or maybe it was the melty-soft bedding, but whatever the trick, man, I want that at home.

The best part of our room, though, was our glassed-in balcony, where we sat with drinks and watched the ocean go by. We saw dolphins, tugboats, oil rigs, rain, birds, Mexico, clouds, and sunsets. Our hours on the balcony were beautifulby far the most tranquil part of our Disney cruise.

Our room had enough space for all three of us to hang out, sleep, bathe, and store our luggage. Though not huge, we never felt cramped, thanks to the clever layout and a few key features: While you have dinner, your room attendant turns the couch into a comfy kids bed and adds a guard rail.

We kind of fell in love with our room attendant, actually. Every night hed leave little gifts on our bedMickey bandannas for the pirate party one night, Ghirardelli squares the nextand every night, hed fold our towels into amusing figures. But more than the stuff he left and the diligent care he took of our room, he was genuinely kind, sincere, and a very hard worker. My daughter still talks about Mr. Bhonghe became as cherished to her as the Disney characters.

Book Your Excursions As Early As Possible

Do

Shore excursions, or Port Adventures as Disney likes to call them, are one of the best ways for you to make the most of your time at each port of call. Browse the selection of available excursions in each port, and you will likely be overwhelmed by all the choices.

While you can wait to book some of your Port Adventures until you are onboard the ship, you should realize that the Disney-exclusive excursions are likely to fill up before you sail.

As a general rule, if you think something sounds so exciting that you would hate to miss it, you should book excursions before your trip so that you guarantee your entire family gets a spot.

The same applies for private excursions. We decided to do Skagway on our own and booked a private tour in February for our August cruise. Private tour companies fill up quickly as well as there are many ships sailing from Seattle to Alaska during May to September.
