How Does The Free At Sea Promotions Work
Although considered a special promotion that could end at any time, Free At Sea is offered pretty much year-round. The program offers perks based on the level of stateroom you book.
Most of the time, inside and studio staterooms are allowed to pick one perk, balconies receive two, and guests staying in the exclusive Haven area may pick all 5 perks.
The changes are made to the program occasionally , the standard perks offered are as follows:
- Specialty dining
- $50 per port shore excursion credit
- 3rd and 4th guest sail free
These perks are offered to the first two guests in the room. Proving there is truly no such thing as free, guests must pay a 20 percent gratuity for the dining and beverage packages.

Theres No Way To Go Hungry While Youre Aboard A Norwegian Epic Cruise
One great thing about really any Norwegian cruise ship? The cruise line can be relied upon to outfit each of its ships with plenteous dining options. While some ships simply cant deliver when it comes to good eats and plenty of them, thats not the case here.
A Norwegian Epic cruise gives travelers more than a dozen different dining options, both complimentary and for a fee, with a range of European, American and Asian cuisines to choose from. The cruise line is also pretty great about adjusting for dietary needs, if thats a concern.
Complimentary dining includes dining in the two manning dining rooms, Manhattan Room and Taste. While the latter is open for three meals a day, the former is only open for dinner and has a more posh vibe. The good news? Neither works on fixed seatings, so you can dine whenever you please while the two are open.
You also have access to the buffet on a complimentary basis, as well as the pub, OSheehans, which offers more American-style food than pub fair.

What Is The Dress Code For Speciality Restaurants
The speciality restaurants on Norwegian ships usually have a slightly stricter code which requires men to wear a collared shirt, closed shoes and either pants/jeans.
For women, the dress code in speciality restaurants would be either a dress or a trouser/skirt combination.
Dress smart casual in our more formal dining room or in our more upscale speciality restaurants. For women, it includes slacks or jeans, dresses, skirts and tops. For men, its jeans or slacks with a collared shirt and closed-toed shoes. Kids 12 and under are welcome to wear nice shorts in all our restaurants.
Even for the speciality restaurants, the dress codes are very relaxed in comparison to other cruise lines.
This is one of the reasons why I constantly recommend Norwegian Cruise Line to families, to find out why I do check out our recommended cruise lines page here: Recommended Cruise Lines
Can I Bring Bottles Of Wine On Board
Yes! While guests are not allowed to bring other types of alcohol, soda or water on board, they can bring corked, sealed bottles of wine or champagne. At embarkation, passengers are charged a corkage fee for each bottle, whether the intent is to consume the wine in a restaurant or in the guests stateroom. The corkage fee is $15 for 750 ml bottles and $30 for 1,500 ml Magnums.
Wines gifted to passengers, whether by friends who arrange to have a bottle left in their stateroom or travel agents, is also subject to the same fee. The one exception to the no bottled water rule is in regard to factory-sealed purified water needed for medical devices or baby formula.

Cruise Ship Engine Power Propulsion Fuel
These are some of the most interesting cruise ship technology-related data and facts – engines, power, , fuel consumption of cruise ships, and something about pollution .
In 2020, IMO implements its global 0,5% sulfur cap on marine fuels. If not using scrubbers , owners of older vessels must use as ship fuels either MGO , ECA Category Fuels , new modified fuels and blends, LNG or electric/battery power. Each fuel option is based on vessel type and age, routes/itineraries and powerplant. Most newbuild passenger ships are LNG-powered. World’s largest seaports plus numerous smaller ports already have installed shoreside power capabilities providing shore-to-ship power supply to berthed vessels. In many ports, shorepower is in addition to LNG bunkering capabilities.

Does Norwegian Charge For Room Service
Yes. After introducing what they called an enhanced room service menu which offers a mix of complementary and for-fee items last year, NCL added a convenience charge of up to $7.95 per order.
Morning coffee and continental breakfast can be ordered without the service charge being attached. Also, guests of The Haven do not have to pay the convenience charge on their room service orders.
What Is The Dress Code On Regular Nights On A Norwegian Cruise Line Cruise
Norwegian have the most relaxed dress code of any cruise line that Ive ever cruised with. Jeans are acceptable at all times in the main dining room as long as they are not too ripped/faded.
Realistically as long as you are dressed and clean you wont be turned away from the main dining room on a Norwegian cruise.
Norwegians website says the following:
Dress cruise casual anytime during the day, in the buffet and in most speciality restaurants. For women, it includes summer and casual dresses, skirts, regular or capri pants, shorts, jeans and tops. Khakis, jeans, shorts and casual shirts are fine for men. Swimwear is acceptable at the buffet and outdoor restaurant, but a shirt or a cover-up and footwear are required.

Differences Among Ships Within The Sun Class
The main difference between the two Sun-class ships is that Norwegian Sun has just a little bit more of most things than Sky in the way of restaurants and cabin choices. Among these extras, Norwegian Sun boasts the Moderno Brazilian churrascaria restaurant, Teppanyaki hibachi eatery and Los Lobos Mexican venue.
As for cabins, the ship has family-designated balconies, ocean views and inside rooms, while Sun has only family-designated ocean view and inside cabins. Sky is the only one with mini-suites.
With that said, Sun has a Starbucks outlet, as well as the Sugarcane Mojito Bar, while Sky does not.
Fully Vaccinated Woman Reportedly Dies Of Covid
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings on Monday announced the launch of its first voyage since the COVID-19 pandemic brought the cruise industry to a grinding halt last year.
The company said its Norwegian Jade ship set sail from Athens, Greece, with a fully vaccinated population onboard as well as additional health measures including universal testing prior to boarding.
Our long-awaited Great Cruise Comeback has officially commenced with the return of Norwegian Jade, the first ship in our fleet to resume cruising, Frank Del Rio, CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, said in a statement.
He added that the company has announced further plans to resume cruising that extends into April 2022 for all 28 ships in its fleet.
We continue to see incredible pent-up demand for future cruise vacations and I look forward to welcoming our loyal guests back onboard, he said.
The first Norwegian cruise to start in the US is scheduled for Aug. 7 aboard Norwegian Encore. It will sail to Alaska from Seattle, the company said.
The cruise industry was among the first sectors to be hit hard by the coronavirus as it spread from Asia to Europe and across the world. Some of the earliest outbreaks outside China occurred on cruise ships, leading to at-sea quarantines and the deaths of some passengers.
Beginning in March 2020, data from the CDC showed more than 3,600 confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 on cruise ships in US waters, and at least 41 deaths.

Carnival Cruise Line currently has 26 cruise ships, with at least four more being added to the fleet in the next 5 years. The 3rd Vista class ship, Carnival Panorama, is scheduled to be completed in 2019.
This is now tied with Royal Caribbean, which currently has 25 cruise ships as well.

The Ship Has Received Expansive Revitalizations Over The Last Decade
Sure, when Norwegian Epic debuted, it offered a lot of glitz and glam to its passengers. For example, at the time, it offered the only tube and bowl water slide at sea. Other interesting amenities included a rappelling wall, bowling alley and an ice bar.
But over time, every cruise ship begins to show its wear and tear. As such, in 2015, Norwegian Cruise Line announced plans for a two-year, $400 million, fleet-wide refurbishment program, and Norwegian Epic was a part of this program, which was dubbed The Norwegian Edge.
Norwegian Epic was the first ship to receive renovations under the program, in October 2015. Changes included the addition of new dining and drinking venues, like The Cavern Club, as well as redesigns of popular restaurants and bars aboard the ship, including La Cucina, Le Bistro, The Manhattan Room and more.

Cruise Lines Dont Report Infections To Ports
Despite the Celebrity Edge sailing weekly from the port since its first return voyage on June 26, Royal Caribbean has not been providing weekly reports of onboard infection numbers to port officials, Broward County Mayor Steve Geller said.
The CDC does not currently require cruise lines to notify ports of infections if fewer than 11 passengers or crew members test positive during any voyage, Geller said. For numbers fewer than 11, cruise lines report infection numbers only to the Florida Health Department, the CDC and the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Florida Department of Health did not immediately respond on Friday to a request for cruise ships infection numbers. A spokesman for the Coast Guards Southeast Region said he would look into how and whether passenger ship infection data is collected.
Responding to a July 20 request for numbers of infections per cruise ship, a CDC spokesman said obtaining that information would require a formal request to the agencys Freedom of Information Act office. On Aug. 12, an official in the agencys FOIA office estimated the data would not be available until Sept. 2.
Other ports hosting cruise ships as the industry resumes said they dont receive regular reports of onboard infections either.
Can You Wear Shorts On A Norwegian Cruise Line Cruise
Norwegian do allow dress shorts in some of the main dining rooms onboard but shorts are usually not allowed in the speciality restaurants. Many of the cruise ships in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet will have a more formal main restaurant which will not allow shorts.
For example, on Norwegian Breakaway and Getaway, there are three main restaurants. Two of these, Taste and Savour, will allow shorts but the third, The Manhattan Room, will not.
Shorts are always allowed in the buffet and outdoor restaurants and children are allowed to wear shorts in all dining venues.

Cruise Ship Engine Room
The basic detail about the cruise ship engine room is its location. For stability, the ship’s heaviest weights are at its lowest possible deck, and usually, engines are mounted above the keel. Ship’s lowest decks are almost entirely full of machinery. An area creating enough power for driving such an enormous vessel through water needs to be really big – very often engine rooms occupy at least three decks. Rather than long halls stretching the length of hulls, machinery is almost always divided into smaller compartments – one for the main engines, another for the heating/air-conditioning system. This compartmentalization is for safety reasons. If a penetration to the hull or fire happens, multiple compartments help contain the damage. The next photo shows the engine room of RCI’s Oasis-Class vessels.
Rarely, engines are not placed at the ship’s bottom. RMS Queen Mary 2’s four main diesel engines are above the keel, with two smaller gas turbines on top-deck . It was not unusual older liners to have 2 engine rooms. Gradually, technology allowed the consolidation of these spaces. However, current maritime legislation requires vessels to have equipment duplication and 2 engine rooms.
Wartsila Marine technologies aim to optimize ship performance, but also allow to locate deviations from normal parameters of equipment and engines. This allows emerging problems and engine fault sources to be fixed before they occur.

Is It Safe To Take A Cruise
There is little doubt that unabated illness can spread in the close confines of a cruise ship. That said, the measures taken by cruise lines and the CDC are helping to limit cases so far.
In fact, the agency said on its website at late as mid-August thatdue to this thorough and structured process, which allowed ships to develop and assess onboard and shoreside protocols, including comprehensive plans for COVID-19 testing, CDC is confident that cruising can resume safely under the CSO .
Dr. Scott Gottlieb, former head of the FDA, also thinks ships can sail safely. Gottlieb is a leading expert on the pandemic and works with Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. as the co-chair of their Healthy Sail Panel. This group is a driving force behind the protocols put in place by cruise lines to keep passengers healthy.
In the meantime, the vaccines are highly effective, even against the Delta variant, and Norwegian is taking the extra step of coupling vaccines with multiple additional layers of protection against COVID-19, including universal testing before boarding the ship,Gottlieb recently said during quarterly investor call for NCLH.
This goes well beyond what were seeing in other travel and hospitality sectors. And with the controlled environment a cruise ship provides, it can offer one of the safest vacation options.
