As Carnival Cruise Returns To No; Passengers Must Be Vaccinated Or Pay Extra $150 For Testing
NEW ORLEANS Carnival Cruise Line plans on returning to New Orleans this Fall, with the Carnival Glory scheduled to leave New Orleans on Sept. 5, 2021.
This will be the first cruise ship to sail out of New Orleans since the CDC halted all cruise ships in March 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The CDC released a conditional framework that would allow cruises to resume if certain thresholds were met, including virus mitigation procedures on board and a simulated cruise to test them before embarking with regular passengers.
Vaccinated passengers must submit their original proof of vaccination card before they can enter the ship. Those passengers must be fully vaccinated and have received the final dose of their COVID-19 vaccinate at least 14 days before departure.
Non-vaccinated customers are still allowed onboard, but must test negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours of departure and take an antigen test on arrival as well as another COVID-19 test 24 hours after leaving shore, according to Carnival.
Unvaccinated customers will be charged $150 per person to cover the costs of testing, according to Carnival. Children under 2-years-old are exempt from testing requirement.
The cruise ship industry has been hard hit by the pandemic as it relies on full boats, plenty of trips and passengers are usually in crowded areas – all of which are problems with COVID restrictions.;

Two P&o Cruise Ships To Sail The Caribbean
P&O Cruises plans to have two ships sailing the Caribbean before the end of the year. The cruise line has experienced a hugely successful summer return with the launch of its newest flagship Iona and its popular summer seacations onboard Britannia. The cruise line is ready to expand its cruises and has chosen to do this in the Caribbean with;Britannia;and;Azura.
Britannia;will set off on her transatlantic voyage from Southampton in southern England on October 22. The vessel will take 14 days to sail to the Southern Caribbean island of Barbados before she starts the first of a series of 14-day cruises in the Caribbean.
Azura;will be the second ship sailing the Caribbean for the UK-based cruise line. Starting December 10, the cruise ship will also be sailing from Barbados on 14-day itineraries that include ports of call such as Trinidad and Tobago, Aruba, Bonaire, Dominica, and Martinique.
P&O Cruises are not yet sailing with the entire fleet and will not do so this year.;Aurora;is currently scheduled to return in February of next year and;Arcadia;is scheduled to return to sailing in March of next year.
Plenty to look forward to and this will be the first chance British cruisers will be able to enjoy a cruise in the Caribbean since the suspension started in 2020.
New Orleans Cruise Lines
Six cruise lines operate out of New Orleans: American Cruise Line, American Queen, Carnival Cruise Line, Disney Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line and Viking River Cruises. Take your pick and enjoy a voyage on a New Orleans cruise ship.
Carnival Cruise Line specializes in affordable cruises to the coast of Mexico from New Orleans. 4-, 5- and 7-day cruises sail to ports like Cozumel, Progreso and Jamaica. They also offer cruises to the Bahamas. Departures all year-round on “fun ships.”
Norwegian Cruise Line makes 7-day western Caribbean cruises leaving from New Orleans. You’ll visit Costa Maya, Belize, Roatan Island and Cozumel. A Norwegian “Freestyle Cruise” offers a variety of exciting restaurants, a relaxed dress code and lots of choices of things to see and do. Norwegian also offers a 15-day Panama Canal cruise to Los Angeles.
Disney Cruise Line is new to New Orleans. The famous family cruise line offers cruises from here to the Bahamas, Cozumel, Western Caribbean, and through the Panama Canal.
American Cruise Line has two riverboats making cruises up the Mississippi River that leave from New Orleans. These are real paddlewheel boats with spacious overnight staterooms.
The American Queen Steamboat Company offers luxury steamboat cruises on the Mississippi River out of New Orleans. Some are round-trips and others are one-way to Memphis.
Viking River Cruises will offer Mississippi River cruises starting in 2022.

New Orleans Cruise Moratorium Extended As Carnival Cruises Sail From Other States
Carnival Cruise Lines on Thursday extended the moratorium on sailings from the Port of New Orleans through August, despite the resumption of some sailings starting in July from Florida and Texas.
Carnival, the largest cruise ship operator in the U.S., previously announced the resumption of voyages from Miami, Canaveral and Galveston after it had negotiated terms with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that require stringent tests to ensure travelers and cruise ship staff are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus, as well as other safety measures.
The operator normally has two large ships sailing out of New Orleans: the Glory and Valor, each of which carry about 3,000 passengers and 1,200 crew. The Valor has been in dry dock for refurbishment and upgrades and wasn’t due back into service until November at the earliest, in any case.

Carnival Glory Arrives In New Orleans
With the Port of New Orleans reopening after Hurricane Ida hit last week, Carnival Glory has been allowed to make her way through the Mississippi River and dock at the cruise terminal in downtown New Orleans. It comes after the ship remained safely away from her homeport due to the impact of Hurricane Ida.
Port Nola posted, Effective September 1, 2021 at 3 p.m., the Captain of the Port New Orleans has set port condition NORMAL. Vessel movement and cargo operations are authorized with restrictions.

Ida approached the city on August 29 at a strong category 4 Hurricane and caused widespread flooding, heavy rainfall, and powerful winds. Isa also caused widespread power outages, with over 1 million homes and businesses without power. Our thoughts go out to all those who are suffering and impacted by the Hurricane.
Carnival Cruise Line canceled the ships first return voyage out of New Orleans as the city was still under emergency management and that the channel leading up to the cruise terminal remained closed. Carnival Glory was originally scheduled to depart on September 5 on a seven-day Bahamas cruise, including calls at Bimini, Freeport, and Nassau.

Shopping is located just a few blocks from the cruise terminal. Within a short walk, youll come to the Outlet Collection at Riverwalk, where youll find discounts on popular brands like Coach, Gap, and Steve Madden. There is also a Nordstrom Rack and Neiman Marcus Last Call.

New Orleans is an amazing city. We were lucky to be able spend some time in town after the cruise. We got a deal on a room at the Westin with some incredible views of the Mississippi. Its also just off Canal St., and because of that its right on the Canal Street trolley lines that can connect you everywhere. Stopped at Ruby Slipper for breakfast. Use an app to pre-book your place in line or it will be a long wait. Food was fantastic. You must visit, the French Market, Frenchman Street, The Garden District, and of course Bourbon Street. For the garden district take a quick tour on the st Charles cable car and then go back for specific parts such as the Audubon park, etc.

Cruises From New Orleans On Hold In Wake Of Hurricane Ida

The comeback of cruising out of New Orleans is on hold for now, thanks to Hurricane Ida.
With electricity, drinking water and fuel still scarce across much of Louisiana in the wake of the storm, cruise giant Carnival has canceled a sailing out New Orleans scheduled for Sunday that would have been its first from the city in 17 months.
River cruise lines that operate Mississippi River sailings out of New Orleans also are steering clear of the city for now. Both American Cruise Lines and American Queen Steamboat Company will be operating river cruises in the coming days out of more northerly Mississippi River ports in Mississippi and Tennessee instead of New Orleans.

The Carnival sailing on Sunday the line canceled, on the 2,980-passenger Carnival Glory, would have been the first ocean cruise out of New Orleans by any line since the COVID-19 outbreak was declared a pandemic in March of 2020.
The vessel had been scheduled to operate a seven-day voyage to the Bahamas that would have featured calls at Bimini, Freeport and Nassau.
Carnival said passengers on the canceled sailing would receive a full refund of their cruise fare.
Culture & History Of The New Orleans Cruise Port
Theres no other city in the U.S. quite like New Orleans thanks to its unique heritage. The city was founded in 1718 by French colonists and was part of France until the Louisiana Purchase in 1803 when it joined with the U.S. Since then, it has gained a multi-cultural ambiance that combines French and Spanish Creole with southern roots and an eclectic arts and music scene. New Orleans Port Facilities & Location
New Orleans cruises pull into port at the Julia Street Cruise Terminal Complex, which was originally built for the 1984 Worlds Fair that took place in New Orleans. It became a cruise terminal in 1991 and has undergone many makeovers over the decades. Today, it has an air-conditioned gangway, covered drop-off and pick-up area, and two berths that span enough space to accommodate large cruise ships. Julia Street Cruise Terminal is located right by shops and restaurants and is just a mile away from Bourbon Street.

Oasis Of The Seas Restarting Operations
Royal Caribbeans Oasis of the Seas is finally restarting cruise operations and will be the first to do so out of the Cape Liberty Cruise Port in Bayonne, New Jersey. So the cruise ship is departing on September 5 on a seven-night Bahamas sailing including calls at Port Canaveral, Florida; the cruise lines private island of Perfect Day at CocoCay, Bahamas; and Nassau, also in the Bahamas. The ship will arrive back in New Jersey on September 12.
Oasis of the Seas will continue to sail seven-night Bahamas cruises and will also begin seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises from Miami in November 2021. Including Oasis of the Seas, 14 Royal Caribbean ships have restarted operations which is more than half the fleet. Liberty fo the Seas will be next with cruises from Galveston, Texas starting on October 3.
