4 critically hurt after Carnival Cruise tour bus wrecks in ...

Bermuda is a former British colony, with a more formal vibe than youll find in the laid-back Bahamas. Though its made up of more than 100 islands, its largest and most populated islands are connected by bridges to form the destination we think of as Bermuda. Cruise ships dont island-hop here. They pick one of three cruise ports and dock.

Cruise ships that dock in Hamilton are in the heart of the action the city is the nations capital. Visitors can choose from city pursuits like shopping and dining or head to the beaches and golf courses. The Royal Naval Dockyard, referred to as Kings Wharf by some cruise lines, is a historic naval site located at the western tip of Bermuda. St. Georges on Bermudas eastern end is a World Heritage Site with narrow, cobblestone streets and oodles of charm.

Cruises to the Bahamas will visit several Bahamian ports on a weeklong cruise, though a few itineraries feature two days at a cruise lines private island. These private islands such as Holland Americas Half Moon Cay, Disney Cruise Lines Castaway Cay and Royal Caribbeans Perfect Day at CocoCay are popular with cruisers for their pristine beaches and plentiful activities, all in a safe environment where your cruise card is accepted currency and a lunch buffet is free.

Bermuda Cruises Travel Tips

  • The main form of transportation in Bermuda is walking or by motorbike. It’s impossible to rent a car when you visit the island because the government banned car rentals.
  • The island of Bermuda is most well-known for its beaches, so make time to visit at least one beach during your trip. You truly won’t regret it because each beach is like paradise on earth. Keep in mind that some beaches are hidden-gems while others are a lot more popular!
  • Bermuda can be quite expensive, and you can quickly rack up a costly bill while you’re out at a restaurant. Make sure you pay close attention to the cost of things when you’re out and about!
  • Don’t drink the tap water in Bermuda because the water isn’t super clean or safe. Instead, be sure to purchase water bottles while you’re out to have something to drink during your trip.
  • If you go swimming, make sure to be on the lookout for jellyfish that can sting and other animals that might cause you harm in the water. It’s not likely that you’ll get stung, but it’s good to keep your eyes open just in case.
  • Make sure you pack your swimsuit, sunscreen, and sunglasses. Bermuda sees a lot of sun and you’ll want to protect yourself when you visit the beaches.

A Shift Away From The Us

Royal Caribbean has made it clear that its not betting on the U.S. cruise industry opening up any time soon. The focus is well and truly on introducing new homeport options out of other countries such as Israel, the Bahamas and now, Bermuda. Even sister line Celebrity Cruises will homeport out of St. Maarten.

As we get closer to Summer, the CDC is making the situation even more confusing, especially with the latest answers from the CDC Director in a recent senate hearing.

This might not be the end of new alternative homeports for Royal Caribbean. There have already been rumblings of Cozumel becoming a homeport, and there are plenty more Caribbean islands that would no doubt be happy to have more cruise ships to help their economy.

Cruising really is coming back, but not in the usual way. Domestic low-key sailings are the way to go at the moment. The UK has already announced its plan forallowing cruises to sail from May 17 but around the UK only.

What Is The Best Month To Cruise To Bermuda

Best Time To Cruise To Bermuda From Boston

Although Bermuda is only 600 miles off the North Carolina coast, it enjoys a semi-tropical climate.

By the time the first cruise ship arrives from Boston in late spring, air and water temperatures will reach the mid-70s, so you can enjoy swimming and snorkeling. During the evenings, you’ll enjoy the cool breeze that almost always blows at night.

During the summer, the outdoor temperature seldom goes above 85°, although the water temperature can be a degree or two higher. Temperatures begin to drop in late October and November, right after cruises from Boston have ended.

Hurricane season officially lasts from June through November, although Bermuda is much less likely to be hit than the Caribbean – or for that matter, Florida. If you’re concerned about trip disruptions related to hurricanes, you can buy reasonably priced insurance to protect you against this risk.

If you want to do everything possible to avoid a hurricane, select one of the earlier Bermuda cruises from Boston with April, May, or even early June departures.

Is It Dangerous To Cruise Through The Bermuda Triangle

Carnival Elation Cruise to Bermuda from Jacksonville in 2018

There is an element of danger with any form of travel but it isnt more dangerous to cruise through the Bermuda Triangle than to cruise in any other part of the world that might experience similar weather. There has never been a modern mega-ship that has gone missing in the triangle.

The weather in the Bermuda Triangle can be stormy. Cruises to the Caribbean, especially in hurricane season are known for having to avoid storms from time to time. Cruise Ship itineraries are often modified if a storm is approaching and cruise lines will do their best to miss the worst of the storm.

Due to improvements in weather forecasting, it is often possible to know quite far in advance if the weather is likely to be bad.

If a storm is likely to happen during a cruise the cruise line can:

  • Miss a port.

Core Covid Protocols Remain

While some Covid-19 protocols have been scaled back, the core Covid protocols are still in place.

Pre-cruise covid testing for all passengers and a requirement all cruisers 12 years old and above be fully vaccinated remains for all ships, and there is no indication these protocols are going anywhere.

Moreover, enhanced cleaning and sanitization protocols are being utilized onboard ships. Royal Caribbean already enhanced its air-filtration systems before cruises restarted in 2021 to ensure the airborne spread of Covid would be a nearly non-existent threat.

Thankfully, the emuster process remains unchanged as well. Guests complete most of the safety drill on their smartphone at their leisure on the first day, and simply have to report to their muster station so they know where it is located.

Bermudas Ports Of Call

  • Hamilton Harbour, located in the islands capital, the City of Hamilton.
  • St. George’s Port in St. George’s Harbour

Step right off the ship to explore historic towns, sample Bermudian cuisine, shop markets and boutiques, visit a huge variety of attractions, discover hidden natural wonders or head straight for our world-famous pink-sand beaches. The island is only 21-square miles, so anything you want to see and do should be within reach.
