Grand Turk Prepares As Carnival Cruise Ships To Return In December

Grand Turk in Turks & Caicos is preparing to welcome back cruise ships in December, including vessels from Carnival Cruise Line.

Its a busy few weeks for Grand Turk in Turks & Caicos as the island slowly but surely gets ready for the first cruise ships since the pause in operations in March last year. The islands waited for almost two years to welcome the first guests back soon enough, they will be able to welcome more than 6,000.

Preparations are focused mainly on the health and safety protocols that will need to be in place and training for vendors, and beautifying and cleaning up the islands after such a long time of economic inactivity.

Sixth Largest Us Cruise Homeport Estimates 285 Ship Calls For 2022

With cruise ships returning to service, Port of New Orleans in Louisiana expects 285 ship calls for 2022.

New Orleans has long been a favorite port to sail on cruises from with river cruises sailing the Mississippi River and ocean-going cruise ships sailing the Caribbean and Bahamas, the port is now the 6th largest cruise port in the US.

Shore Excursions Vendors And Fun

While everyone wants to be safe when going ashore and keep locals healthy, the main reason for the guests onboard to step ashore is to have fun. And that part is also being looked at, with Carnivals management team planning a visit within the next weeks for a final inspection and meet & greet with local vendors and tour operators who will also receive extra training and workshops on how to deliver the ultimate fun during a guests visit.

Minister of Tourism Hon.Josephine Connolly:

At the end of the month, I am going to have a meet and greet with all the carnival directors, theyre all coming in, were gonna have a meet and greet with all the vendors. And the next day, were gonna have a workshop and that workshop will go on for a day, and might go into a third day, so that we can get all our vendors up to speed.

Carnival Vista Heads To Port Canaveral

From November 13, 2023, Carnival Vista will call Port Canaveral her new home. Carnival Brand Ambassador John Heald announced this week that the vessel would be switching ports from her regular homeport of Galveston, Texas, to Port Canaveral, Florida.

Good morning again everyone and as you know my mates in Texas were very, very excited that Carnival Jubilee would be calling Galveston home. This is all part of our dancing of the ships and as you will see now we will move Carnival Vista to Port Canaveral in 2023/24 and this brilliant ship will operate 5, 6 and 8 day itineraries.

The itineraries for Carnival Vista sailing from Port Canaveral will include a 5-Day Exotic Eastern Caribbean Cruise, calling at Amber Cove, in the Dominican Republic, Grand Turk, in the Turks and Caicos Islands, and two fun days at sea after sailing from Port Canaveral, and before returning to port.

Another cruise on offer is a 6-day Exotic Eastern Caribbean Cruise which is essentially the same as the 5-day cruise however, it offers an additional day in either Half Moon Cay or Nassau, in the Bahamas. The cruise line also has a variety of 8-day cruises that call in places such as San Juan, Puerto Rico, St. Maarten, St. Kitts, Grand Turk, Amber Cove, and more.

Cruise Itineraries To And From Miami Florida

Follows a list of destinations visited by ships leaving out of Miami:

• World Cruises – around the world voyages from Miami are offered in January, as well as shorter itinerary segments part of the main round-trip itinerary.

Repositioning – Transatlantic crossings from Florida to Europe are offered in Spring. Ships on relocation routes from Miami usually include in the itineraries Canary Islands and Mediterranean ports, and often Bermuda . Longest relocation itineraries end in Baltic Sea turnaround ports .

Where To Get Tested And Which Tests To Get

There are two types of permitted tests: the rapid antigen test and the NAAT . The NAAT includes PCR tests, considered the gold standard for accuracy. The tests must take a specimen from your nose or mouth.

At-home tests are a no-go: International flights and cruises will not accept the home tests you can buy at your local pharmacy that offer immediate results. These tests will be most useful to test family visiting you for the holidays or if you fear you have contracted COVID and want to know right away. The Binax Now home tests are known for their accuracy and cost about $25.

Testing sites: There are numerous testing sites in South Florida that will provide you with the paperwork you need to travel. Holy Cross Urgent Care, which has sites throughout the region, says there is no cost for the test if you have insurance however, the centers require an appointment with a doctor, which can cost up to $262. Holy Cross says antigen results are available in 15 minutes and PCR results take up to 24 hours.

Many sites send the specimens to Quest Diagnostics to process. A Quest spokeswoman said the turnaround time is currently within one day for most PCR tests, and labs will remain open throughout the coming winter holidays.

Our labs run 24/7/365, spokeswoman Kimberly Gorode said. We will be processing specimens on all holidays.

There are also public drive-through sites offering testing in South Florida, but they dont guarantee results in time for your travel.

Bar Harbor Cruise Terminal Marine Atlantic

As tendering passengers increase cruise companies’ costs, there is a plan for the conversion of the old ferry terminal to a combined ferry-cruise terminal facility.

The town voted on June 13, 2017 to re-zone the old ferry terminal. Following the vote , the town purchased the state-owned Marine Atlantic property from the Maine Department of Transportation. This facility served two Bay Ferries ships connecting Bar Harbor with Nova Scotia Canada .

• In February 2019 was signed a 5-year lease deal with annual rent CAD 264,000.
• Customs Plaza’s renovation also includes installing new equipment , repairs to the existing docking pier, installing a new fixed bridge section , transfer of the floating ferry ramp from Portland to Bar Harbor.

Article 12’s zoning change allows cruise vessels to dock at the ferry terminal. Several lawsuits were against this port development project. As of 2019, Ferry Terminal Visioning Committee has approved the state-owned property to be used as a multi-use terminal. The current deal includes a 5-year lease for the CAT ferry providing daily connections Bar Harbor-Yarmouth. Other terminal uses could include a possible yacht marina, boat storage, overflow parking , cruise ship tendering.

Perched at the edge of a cliff, at the beginning of a 50-foot descent along a rugged canyon wall, I had no choice but to give in and trust my guide, Berani. He stood above me and assured me the harness around my waist would keep me safe. All I had to do was relax and start releasing the rope, bit by bit.

It felt unexpectedly good to let the fear wash over me. Not the harrowing kind we’ve lived with during the last two years, but the thrilling kind that adrenaline-spiking activities like canyoning can produce. For the next four hours, I rappelled down six more cliffs and jumped over waterfalls into deceptively deep pools, always bobbing along comfortably in my life jacket. Every now and then, I turned around to look back at the moss-covered boulders and cascading waters we had traversed. With the sun shining through the canyons, I felt like I could be on the set of an Avatar or Jurassic Park sequel.

To borrow a phrase from my Semester at Sea dean: The ship is the unexpected best port. And after months on land, canceled bookings, and changing rules and regulations, it’s the port many travelers are keenest to return to. Just ask the dozens of guests on my sailing who extended for a second week, rather than disembarking as originally scheduled.

Cruise Ship Calls Estimated For Port Of New Orleans In 2022

The Port of New Orleans has announced a big comeback for cruise ship operations with the Norwegian Breakaway arrival on Nov. 21, 2021. The Breakaway joins the Carnival Glory and Valor that successfully restarted ocean-going cruises in September and early November.

According to a press release, river cruises resumed successfully from the port in March 2021, and in September 2021 Carnival was the first to restart ocean-going cruises that have continued to consistently drive business back to the New Orleans market.

Port of New Orleans is forecasting 285 sailings during the 2022 calendar year and expecting nearly 1 million passenger movements, with the return of Norwegian Cruise Line and Disney Cruise Line slated for February.

All cruise lines operating from the port currently have vaccination, testing and mask wearing requirements in place as well as strict COVID-19 protocols beyond federal recommendations.

We are pleased ocean-going cruises are resuming and joining the successful restart of river cruises nine months ago, said Brandy D. Christian, president and CEO Port NOLA. Cruises from the Port of New Orleans are critical to the state and regional economy. Our cruise passengers make up more than 300,000 hotel room nights alone in our city and they spend more than $125 million locally.

Port NOLA said that it also looks forward to welcoming Viking Cruise Lines to New Orleans in 2022.
