The ship was the idea of Knut Kloster, whose family had a long history in the marine industry. The hull was built in Landskrona, Sweden, by Öresundsvarvet, and it was then towed to Fosen Mekaniske Verksted in Rissa, Norway, for completion. The vessel was launched in March 2002 and purchased by its residents in October 2003.
The management company is responsible for operations and administration of the ship, including hiring the employees. The residents, through their elected board of directors and a network of committees, provide guidance to the management about the ship’s itinerary, finances, and lifestyle.

I’ve always been a go-big-or-go-home type of person, so taking the maiden voyage on Royal Caribbean’s Wonder of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, in April was an absolute must. Funny thing is, I’d never been a cruise person, despite having never been on one that is, until this Caribbean sailing.
The trip was scheduled for late March 2020, so needless to say, it was put on ice as the COVID-19 pandemic halted the industry. But fast-forward almost exactly two years later, I decided to give it a go again on Royal Caribbean’s new 1,188-foot-long ship.
It turns out, the things I initially thought I disliked about cruising are what I enjoyed most during the seven-day journey that sailed from Fort Lauderdale to Haiti, Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas.
Perhaps the result of my travel being paused for nearly two years, but coordinating a trip itinerary felt overwhelming. On Wonder of the Seas, however, all of that was taken care of to an extent.
Before embarkation everyone was encouraged to download the Royal Caribbean app, which essentially became my social lifeline. It had everything laid out, from activities to the calendar to a breakdown of the dining room’s rotating menus.
I have a notoriously horrible sense of direction, so navigating not just a ship, but the world’s largest, was challenging on the first day. That said, the spaciousness meant I didn’t have to feel overwhelmed.

The Oasis Of The Seas
The Oasis of the Seas is the worlds largest cruise ship. It can carry up to 6,200 passengers, who are served by over 2000 crew members. The vessel is 40% bigger than any other cruise ship in the world , has a weight of 225,000 tons and is five times the size if the Titanic. It has a total of 15 decks and is as high as a twenty- storey building.
The ship was built in Finland and is owned by Royal Caribbean International. Its maiden voyage is scheduled for early December 2009. The ship is stationed in Fort Lauderdale Florida, from where it will go on week-long cruises of the Caribbean Sea.
The Oasis of the Seas has virtually everything a tourist can dream of. Biggest attraction is a giant open-air theatre for 750 passengers that is a swimming pool by day and an entertainment arena at night. Royal Caribbeans Wonder of the Seas made its maiden voyage last month, becoming the largest cruise liner at sea with a capacity for almost 7,000 passengers and weighing in at more than 237,000 gross tonnes.

The Oasis-class ship is the latest of Royal Caribbean’s vessels to dominate the rankings of the world’s biggest ships.
And the cruise line has already unveiled plans for Utopia of the Seas, which will be the next biggest in the world when it sets sail in 2024.

The first of Royal Caribbeans Oasis-class ships, hence its name, this vessel debuted in 2009 when she set a new capacity record for carrying more than 6,000 passengers and became the largest cruise ship in the world at that time with a gross tonnage of 225,282, identical with her sister Allure of the Seas.
In 2019, the ship underwent a major refurbishment, with Royal Caribbean adding lots of new facilities including an escape room game, a music hall and 30 ultimate panoramic suites located above the navigation bridge.
The ship currently sails from Miami and New York to the Caribbean, Canada, Bermuda and the Bahamas, and also has transatlantic crossings to the UK.
Since her maiden voyage, Oasis of the Seas has been involved in more than a few unlucky incidents including crashing into the dock during her float-out, an almost collision with a Carnival cruise liner in 2019 and partially sinking in the Bahamas after two cranes collapsed on top of her.

As the largest and cleanest cruise ship ever built in Germany, the ship has space for 5,200 passengers, is 337 metres long and has a registered gross tonnage capacity just shy of 184,000.
With 2,600 staterooms, the ship was also the first in Aida’s fleet to offer rooms for single travellers. Travellers can also enjoy the ship’s multi-deck luxury day spa, three giant water slides, a water park, climbing garden and a mini golf course.
