Royal Caribbean Unseats Carnival As Cruise Line With The Largest Fleet
Cruise Line & Cruise ShipRoyal Caribbean InternationalLaurie Baratti April 04, 2021
Royal Caribbean has just come to dominate the ocean-going cruise scene by surpassing longtime industry leader, Carnival Cruise Line, in terms of its fleet size. Upon taking delivery of its new Odyssey of the Seas on March 31, Royal Caribbean boosted its ship count to 25 operational vessels edging out Carnival, which is currently sailing with 24.
Prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and resulting global shutdown of cruising, Carnival boasted 27 vessels, while Royal Caribbean was sailing with 26. But, the financial toll of such an extended pause in operations prompted both companies to downsize their fleets as part of cost-cutting efforts.
Carnival sold off some of its older Fantasy Class ships in July 2020. Carnival Fascination was purchased by Century Harmony Cruises and renamed Century Harmony, while Carnival Fantasy, Carnival Inspiration and Carnival Imagination suffered the more ignominious fate of being sent to a scrapyard in Turkey. The cruise line also took delivery of one new ship, the 5,200-passenger , in December of last year.
While the lines first Quantum Ultra Class ship, Spectrum of the Seas, which debuted in 2019, sails out of Shanghai and serves the burgeoning Chinese cruise market, Odyssey of the Seas will be dedicated to sailing in Europe and the U.S.
Small Ship Line #: Metropolitan Touring
Operating three expedition vessels in the Galápagos, Metropolitan Touring is the ideal cruise line for those seeking a casual experience in the wildlife hotspot. The tiny ships, which only accommodate between 40 and 78 passengers, have a laid-back atmosphere where the focus is very much on wildlife spotting. The company also offers land-based tours in mainland Ecuador, Peru, and Colombia that can be combined with a Galápagos expedition.

Your butler will make you feel right at home as you settle into the living room, which features subtle recessed lighting and a flat-screen TV as well as a work area with writing desk. You’ll enjoy meals in the separate dining room and get a good night’s sleep in the master bedroom, home to a sinfully comfortable queen-size Savoir bed dressed with Pratesi bed linens, down duvet and a pillow menu with nine separate choices.
The master bathroom has marble throughout, plus a double vanity, shower and separate, full-size whirlpool tub, and a choice of Bulgari luxury bath amenities. There’s also a powder room for guests.

The Worlds Largest Cruise Ships
The cruise industry has proven itself to be incredibly lucrative, with weeks at sea a favoured holiday destination. As cruise operators pack people aboard, the largest cruise ships are often the most popular. Ship-technology.com lists the worlds largest.
With the cruise industry booming, cruise operators are actively pursuing newer and larger ships to cater for demand. Combining increasingly larger capacities with luxury can often prove to be a daunting, but ultimately profitable endeavour.
Although Royal Caribbean International possess the majority of the worlds largest cruise vessels, ships such as the Queen Mary 2 and appropriately named Norwegian Epic post valiant attempts to enter the list.

Outlook for Cruise Shipping Industry in 2021-2022
Last year the Internet was full of cheerful videos listing the top 10 cruise ships able to fairytale any holiday or promising new cruise liner launch. What did they have in common? All of them were made in 2019 when nobody could have imagined that the whole pleasure cruise industry would remain under the no-sail order for a year and jobs at sea on cruise ships would become redundant all over the world.
The largest cruise provider, Carnival Corporation, pointed in their 2020 report: We have never previously experienced a complete cessation of our cruising operations. Indeed, cruise companies have struggled through the exorbitant costs of passengers repatriation, supporting quarantined crew and guests and still face lawsuits from customers and employees.
David Bernstein, chief financial officer of Carnival Corporation reported at the end of its fiscal Q that the company had built a healthy liquidity to sustain it up to the 2022 season . Meanwhile, he projected a monthly cash burn of approximately $550 million for the first half of 2021. Therefore, cash generation must become the primary goal once the cruise industry is allowed to operate at a full capacity.
It has been a year since the historical lockdown started in the USA and Europe, so lets have a closer look at the cruise ship industry today while checking the top largest 10 cruise ships in 2021.

This was supposed to be a big year for big-ship cruise fans.
Back in January, before COVID-19 halted cruising around the world, two of the biggest big-ship cruise lines Norwegian Cruise Line and MSC Cruises were just starting up sailings with their biggest ships ever. Another major brand, Carnival Cruise Line, was just months away from rolling out its own record-sized vessel.
Royal Caribbean, too, had just brought out a new giant of the seas just 21 months earlier.

Worlds Largest Cruise Ship Information For Travelers
Royal Caribbean has enjoyed a busy summer. Cruises have resumed in earnest, with a host of cruise options departing from American ports such as those in Florida and Texas and heading for exotic locations such as the Caribbean, whilst the cruise line has been hard at work tweaking its restrictions in the wake of positive cases detected on board. However, its not new cases that have seen the cruise line in the news this week, but news of a new ship.
No stranger to huge cruise ships, the current largest ship in the world Symphony of the Seas is currently touring the Caribbean on a seven-night package, but it is soon to be overshadowed by a new largest ship in the world, Wonder of the Seas. Set to debut for the first time on March 4th, Wonder of the Seas will set sail for the first time from Fort Lauderdale, heading to the Caribbean as its first port of call. After a stint in the US, the ship will then make its way to Barcelona and Rome for European tours. However, this wasnt always on the cards for the ship.
Wonder of the Seas was originally penciled in to be sailing from China. In April, details about tours departing from Shanghai and Hong Kong were released to the public, and the ship was set to be the first of its kind to be homeported in China. However, the appetite and demand for cruises from the US and Europe led Royal Caribbean to change its plans.
Speaking about his ships inaugural itinerary, Royal Caribbeans President and CEO Michael Bayley said:

Best Standard Family Insides: Disney Cruise Line
Always in a category of its own, Disney just does things differently than the other lines. Its Standard Inside staterooms are family friendly without being special family cabins. On all four ships, they offer the line’s famous bath-and-a-half, featuring a room with a shower/tub and sink, and another with a toilet and sink — great for avoiding fuss at bed- and bath time.
A convertible sofa and a pull-down upper berth house the extra guests, and a curtain divides the room in half so Mom and Dad can stay up reading or chatting with the lights on while the wee ones snore away. While Disney Magic and Wonder have the bigger cabins , Fantasy and Dream get the nod for their fantastic touches: raised beds for easier luggage storage, iPod docking stations and “magical portholes” — faux windows that show a real-time video of the view outside the ship, enhanced with animation of Disney characters swimming or flying by.
