Fastest Way To Get To Anguilla From A Cruise Ship
Me and another GF are coming on a cruise March 24. We are wanting to go over to Anguilla for the day if feasible. Would anyone be able to suggest the fastest and easiest way for us to go and spend a few hours on Shoal bay east. We will be in port from 7-5 on a Saturday we would like to spend maybe 4-5 hours there if possible

You would have to get a cab from port and take a 20 minute drive to Marigot then catch a ferry take a 20 minute ferry from Marigot , go through customs than get a cab to where you want to go . My personal opinion is you really don’t have enough time . You would be spending most of your day traveling . There are so many beautiful beaches and fun excursions on st Maarten . If you want suggestions let me know and I’m sure others who follow this forum will also give you some good suggestions .
I agree with Joanne. I don’t think you have time. I would not want to worry if something went wrong and you didn’t make it back to the ship.
She can even have more time Anguilla if she is willing to spring for the cost of a private water taxi to/from Anguilla.

Here, and in many other Caribbean destinations, there are risks that go along with allowing even vaccinated cruise ship passengers to visit. These seem especially significant when you consider that some Caribbean island ports, pre-pandemic, would see up to a dozen cruise ships each day, some carrying up to 5,400 guests.

Its getting harder to find a Caribbean cruise itinerary that doesnt include a stop on the Centers for Disease Control and Preventions Do Not Travel list. Over the past few weeks, the list of popular Caribbean cruise ports given the CDCs dreaded Level 4 designation has ballooned.
The CDC uses a four-level system to alert travelers to health threats around the world. Countries with a Level 4 travel health notice are deemed to have a very high risk of Covid-19 with a Do Not Travel recommendation for Americans.
The Caribbean islands at Level 4 now include: Aruba, the Bahamas, British Virgin Islands, Curacao, Dominica, Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique, Puerto Rico, St. Barts, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Martin/Sint Maarten and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Its an understatement to say that cruise lines and Caribbean nations share a common interest in navigating the murky waters of the Covid pandemic together. The North American cruise market is dominated by the easily accessible Caribbean, Bahamas, and Bermuda.
Likewise, cruising plays an outsized and growing role in the regions tourism. In 2019, nearly 12 million people visited the Caribbean on a cruise ship, roughly double the 6.2 million recorded in 2010.

Ferries run every 45 minutes between the French town of Marigot on the north coast of St. Martin on the French side and Blowing Point on the south coast of Anguilla.
One advantage of the ferry is the chance to see Marigot, which is a quaint French town with shopping and dining. Ferries are $20 one way plus a departure tax and security fee.
If Marigot isnt appealing, a cheaper way to visit Anguilla is by excursion boats to the beaches, snorkeling and other activities.
Taxis on Anguilla are fixed based on 10 zones around the island, according to the Anguilla Tourist Board. Rates are somewhat expensive. Rental cars require a temporary driving permit for $20. Visitors to the ferry terminal will find several car rental agencies there as well as plenty of taxis.

Anguillas government issued updated Covid-19 protocols that reduces traveler entry fees. Effective November 1, travelers will be charged a $50 per person arrival testing fee, down from the previous $200, when applying for entry via Anguillas visitor portal.
Anguilla requires all visitors 18 years and older, with the exception of pregnant women, to be fully vaccinated to enter the country. Mixed vaccines are accepted but must be a variation of the Pfizer, AstraZeneca and/or Moderna vaccines.
In addition, while a negative Covid-19 test result continues to be required for entry, the test must now be taken no less than two to five days prior to arrival, an extension of the previous period of three to five days, said Anguilla officials.
Visitors will be tested on arrival and required to stay in place at their hotel, licensed villa or other rental accommodations while their test is processed, . Visitors who test negative will be free to explore the island. Guests staying on Anguilla for more than eight days may be tested on the fourth day of their visit at no additional cost.
Vacationers will be able to travel Anguilla via direct flights departing from the U.S. for the first time this winter, as American Airlines will launch nonstop, twice-weekly flights departing from Miami International Airport on December 11.

Many Travelers Are Still Eager To Cruise
The mood onboard, however, remained positive.
“The ship has been wonderful,” said Star Breeze passenger Cindy Waldrop of Savannah, Georgia. “The itinerary change has not been that big of a deal. I just enjoy the chance to get away and cruise again.”
Cindy and her husband Lou who typically sail on Holland America decided to book the Star Breeze inaugural at least partly because it was one of the first ships back at sea after an unprecedented industry pause caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. When Windstar called two days ahead of sailing to inform them of the itinerary disruption, they didn’t consider canceling, and have been pleased with their experience despite the change.
“They’ve gone out of their way to make me feel content and happy,” said Cindy Waldrop.
Windstar has already made plans to remedy the issue that ultimately hobbled the Star Breeze inaugural its partially unvaccinated crew members.
Prelog said that, following the inaugural voyage, the ship will be sailing to Puerto Rico on June 28, where the line has secured enough vaccines to cover the remaining unvaccinated members of its crew. They’ll be given the Johnson & Johnson shot a more convenient option than the two-dose vaccines when your home is a cruise ship that’s in a different place every day. “I understand that the islands need to get their populations vaccinated first. So we had to wait,” said Prelog.
