We are a 40ish couple celebrating our 25th anniversary in 2008 and planning a cruise to Alaska. Neither of us want a “glitter and glitz” type of cruise. We enjoy luxury but want to prioritize the beauty of the scenery and opportunities to experience that over shipboard activities. Does anyone have recommendations for a cruise lines that would suit us and/or experiences that you can share?

Basically I use the cruise ship as my hotel and transportation in AK. Last year we did so much apart from the ship. Sure I went to an occasional show but basically was out on the deck a lot when the ship was moving watching the scenery go by and was off the ship at all ports almost the entire port time. I sailed Diamond Princess last year. Next month I am sailing Celebrity Summit and have even more intention of using the ship as my transportation and hotel. I am traveling alone this time and am not looking at the “glitter and glitz” of the ship. If it is there, so be it. It won’t bother me but I won’t be a big part of its activities.

So I would say for scenery Glacier Bay is a must for me and if I am on a round trip cruise I would try to get a ship that gets “inside” around Bella Bella.
But of the 5 Alaska cruises we have done, the worst one was Great!
