Bermuda To Be Impacted
Hurricane Fiona is likely to make a slight eastern turn late Wednesday or early Thursday, putting Bermuda quite central to the storms predicted path. If the storm remains on its predicted track and at forecasted speeds, it will reach its closest approach to Bermuda early Friday morning, September 23.
The Breakaway-class Norwegian Getaway is scheduled to visit Bermuda on Saturday, September 24. The storm is forecast to be moving much more quickly at that time, however, and may be far from Bermuda at the scheduled port of call time.
Whether or not Norwegian Getaway changes its visit times or drops the call altogether will depend on how the storm behaves in the coming days, and any damage that may occur at port facilities.
No other ships are scheduled for Bermuda in the coming days while the storm is a concern.

Hurricane Fiona Strengthens Continues Cruise Impacts
Hurricane Fiona has had a significant impact on Puerto Rico, and will affect further cruise ports and itineraries throughout the week.
Hurricane Fiona continued to strengthen over the weekend, crossing over Puerto Rico and moving over the Dominican Republic as of Monday morning. The storm is now a strong Category 1 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 90 miles per hour , moving northwest at eight miles per hour .
The storm is forecast to continue turning north and strengthening in the next few days, with strong impacts on Bermuda expected by the end of the week.

What Does The Itinerary Change Mean For Guests
Norwegian began welcoming unvaccinated travelers on many sailings earlier this month, but those over the age of 12 traveling to Canada must be fully vaccinated due to its travel restrictions. The cruise line said in the letter that guests unable to sail due to the requirements would be given a future cruise credit for the entire amount of the fare they paid.
The credit will be available on Oct. 10, and can be used for any cruise through Aug. 31, 2023. The cruise line also gave guests continuing on the sailing a non-refundable credit of $100 per cabin to use on board.
“Additionally, we are working closely with the government of Bermuda to arrange all guests be refunded the Bermuda Travel Authorization fee,” the cruise line added. “We will share additional updates pertaining to this reimbursement after the completion of your sailing.”
Norwegian said Bermuda shore excursions booked through the cruise line would be automatically canceled and refunded to guests’ on-board accounts.

- Temperatures tend to be cooler earlier in the morning and later in the day and evening, so layer clothing accordingly.
- If you’re traveling in October, know that Canadian Thanksgiving is observed the second Monday of the month. This holiday could halt operations or reduce hours of operation in some though not all cities .

The first inhabitants of the area were the Iroquois and the Algonquin tribes, who farmed in the St. Lawrence Valley for centuries. Europeans didnt set foot in the area until the 16th century, and French settlers claimed the area as New France. In 1608, Samuel de Champlain founded Quebec City. However, its harsh, bitter winters made the area notoriously difficult to colonize, where disease and the cold kept the citys population from steadily rising. Upper and Lower Canada merged into one province in 1840, creating the provincial structure of Canada that continues into modern day.
Quebec City was originally a hub for forestry, farming, and trade, and the area gradually grew into a more metropolitan area. The Port of Quebec once transported thousands of ships and sailors in the 1860s, when the ports activity reached its peak. From there, Montreal slowly replaced the Port of Quebec in terms of strategic importance and trade.
Quebec City is predominantly French-speaking area, though an English-speaking population has gradually increased since the 18th century. Bermuda is expected to see hurricane conditions Thursday night into Friday morning, according to the National Hurricane Center. Large swells created by the storm “are expected to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions along much of the east coast of the United States, the Bahamas, Bermuda, and Atlantic Canada during the next few days,” the center said on its website.

Hurricane Fiona Hits Puerto Rico
The most impactful Caribbean hurricane yet in the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season, Hurricane Fiona passed over southwestern Puerto Rico on Sunday, causing widespread, complete-island power outages. Power was slowly being restored Monday morning.
The extent of damage on the island is not yet known, but the storm has been a significant rainmaker and widespread flooding is likely. Roads and bridges are reported to be washed out due to landslides, and the water supply is compromised for much of the island.
At the moment, only MSC Seashore is scheduled to call on the Puerto Rico today, September 19, 2022. That visit was canceled several days ago in anticipation of the storm. The next vessel scheduled to visit is Carnival Cruise Lines flagship, , on September 27, 2022. It is too early to determine whether that visit will be affected by any storm-related damage.
