Princess Cruises Out Of Los Angeles

Guests To Be Tested During Their Voyage

Princess Launches First Cruise Ship Since Start Of Pandemic Out Of LA Port

Besides testing before the cruise starts, guests will likely also undergo testing onboard the ship during longer voyages. This will be done on select cruises, including Panama Canal Full Transit and trips of 15 days or longer. The onboard test will likely occur 3-5 days into the cruise. For voyages 15 days and longer specifically, Princess Cruises will test guests every seven days.

These onboard tests will be comforting for guests booked on longer cruises, keeping in mind the issues that Princess Cruises experienced at the beginning of the pandemic onboard multiple ships on longer voyages.

Should a guest be tested positive onboard, the cruise line has an action plan ready to mitigate the effects a positive case has on others onboard the ship.

Guests found positive will be treated inside their stateroom or the medical facilities onboard guests will be quarantined in a single ward or cabin, depending on the medical care they require. Princess Cruises also offer positive guests, travel companions, and close contacts a full refund if they miss any days of their cruise due to a positive test result or a suspicion of infection.

Crafted At The Port Of Los Angeles

Crafted is a marketspecializing in handmade goods from local artisans. They also offer classesfrom those artisans. Its best feature, though, is its free parking. Youllhave to walk a bit to get from the parking lot here to the cruise terminal, butthe payoff is that you wont be paying for parking at all.

If you prefer not to walk, youcould simply park here and take an Uber, Lyft, or taxi up to the Cruise Center.Itll still be cheaper than paying for parking.

Los Angeles And Princess Cruises

Princess Cruises found its beginnings in Los Angeles back in 1965, and its no surprise the cruise line wanted to return to the city of angels as soon as possible. From 2010 until 2020, Princess cruises made more than 700 calls to LA, making it by far the most frequent cruise ship operator, something the city benefits greatly from.

Port of LA Executive Director Gene Seroka said earlier this year to the Daily Breeze: Here at the port, each time a cruise ship calls in Los Angeles, it brings more than $1 million to area restaurants, hotels and businesses. We expect to add more than $230 million into our local economy in 2022.

The benefits are therefore substantial both for the cruise line and the city itself. This year three Princess Cruise ships will set sail from the Port of Los Angeles World Cruise Center. These include Grand Princess, Majestic Princess, and Emerald Princess .

Princess Cruises has been operating three other vessels to date Majestic Princess is cruising Alaska from Seattle, Regal and Sky Princess are sailing scenic cruises in the UK.

West Coast Cruises On The Rise

Princess latest move reflects an ongoing trend, where more cruise ships are sailing out of West Coast ports, due to increased demand. Californian ports like Los Angeles, Long Beach, San Diego and San Francisco attract local cruisers from the most populous state in the U.S. as well as from neighboring Arizona and Nevada. These ports are also serviced by easily accessible airports with robust national and international connections, further increasing their appeal to cruisers.

Among West Coast ports, Los Angeles leads the way with more than 200 sailings in 2022, the highest number since 2008 and one thats sure to increase next year with Emerald Princess newly announced summer 2023 itineraries.

Princess has several ships already based in Los Angeles, including , which debuted earlier in 2022 and .

Other than Princess, cruise lines that currently homeport out of Los Angeles include Norwegian, Celebrity and Royal Caribbean. John Wayne Airport Orange County

Princess Cruises 2022 Offerings

The big positive about flying into Long Beach is that you are close to the port, and its a user-friendly airport. Still, your flight options are limited.

Flying into LAX means many more flight options, but it can be a major headache due to traffic and the number of people.

John Wayne Airport is a happy medium between the two. It offers more airline and flight options than Long Beach, without being as large as LAX.

Most major airlines serve the airport, including American, Delta, Southwest, and United. Non-stop cities include Atlanta, Dallas, and Newark, in addition to all major cities in the western part of the United States.

The one drawback is the distance to the port, which also takes you on the notorious 405 Freeway. You can expect the 35-mile drive to the World Cruise Center to take about 45 minutes to an hour. The ride to the Port of Long Beach would take about 10 minutes less.

John Wayne Airport

  • Time to Los Angeles World Cruise Center: 45-60 minutes
  • Time to Port of Long Beach: 35-55 minutes
  • Cost of an Uber/Lyft to the port: ~$42
