Carnival Cruise Lines: Resumed Sailing July 3

Port Canaveral sees cruise industry ramp up as sailings go out

Carnival — arguably the world’s most famous cruise line — wasn’t the first cruise line to return to sailing from the United States. However, it was among the earliest to return.

Its first cruise from the U.S. departed Galveston on July 3, 2021 aboard Carnival Vista. It was followed the next day by Carnival Horizon, sailing from Miami. Now the cruise line plans to have 15 ships sailing by the end of October, with the vast majority of passengers sailing vaccinated.

  • Carnival Vista from Galveston sailing July 3
  • Carnival Horizon from Miami sailing July 4
  • Carnival Breeze from Galveston sailing July 15
  • Carnival Miracle from Seattle sailing July 27 through September 14
  • Carnival Magic from Port Canaveral sailing August 7
  • Carnival Sunrise from Miami sailing August 14
  • Carnival Panorama from Long Beach sailing August 21
  • Carnival Glory from New Orleans sailing September 5
  • Carnival Pride from Baltimore sailing September 12
  • Carnival Dream from Galveston sailing September 19
  • Carnival Miracle from Long Beach sailing September 27
  • Carnival Conquest from Miami sailing October 8
  • Carnival Freedom from Miami sailing October 9
  • Carnival Elation from Port Canaveral sailing October 11
  • Carnival Sensation from Mobile sailing October 21

Further Changes Are Possible

The situation worldwide is changing weekly, and cruise lines are working with the relevant authorities for a safe return. Its all very fluid, and the restart dates may change even further. The CDC has been making some adjustments recently with relaxing masks and social distancing rules for vaccinated guests.

Norwegian Cruise Line still plans to restart in August from Florida but parent company Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings recently filed a lawsuit against Florida on the states vaccine passport ban. The result of this could have an impact on any protocols the line implements.

The ongoing saga between the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Florida has still not been resolved. In fact, just recently, the CDC successfully got a hold on Florida being allowed to overrule its Conditional Sailing Order. On July 19, the Florida Governor said it will come out on top and could take its lawsuit against the CDC as far as the supreme court.

Port Canaveral Sees Cruise Industry Ramp Up As Sailings Go Out

Port Canaveral sees cruise industry ramp up as sailings go out

This will be the busiest weekend for cruises from Port Canaveral as the industry tries to get back to business.

PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. – Port Canaveral has a busy week ahead as the cruise ship industry kicks back up. You can see the ships next to the dock: one sure sign that business, life, and travel are coming back.

Carnival’s Mardi Gras returned to Port Canaveral just this week from its first paid passenger cruise since the COVID-19 pandemic first started with all passengers vaccinated. During the seven-day cruise, guests visited the ports of San Juan, Amber Cove, and Nassau and had the opportunity to ride BOLT, the first roller coaster at sea.

Coming up, Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas will set sail from Port Canaveral on Sunday on its first revenue cruise with passengers. The ship successfully completed a test cruise just weeks ago.

Princess Cruises: Resume Sailing July 25

Princess has been the cruise line perhaps most impacted by the crisis. At least two of its ships had virus outbreaks in the early days of the crisis, leading to headlines around the world.

It also made the news by being the first major cruise line to announce a voluntary suspension of cruising, which was quickly followed by other lines. Princess originally announced it would stop all cruises from March 12 through May 10, 2020. Of course, that’s now been extended multiple times.

Princess paused operations through most of July, but now plans to sail from Alaska, departing Seattle starting July 25 aboard Majestic Princess — 500 days after stopping sailing in 2020.;

Getting To And From Port Canaveral

If you are traveling on the Disney Cruise Line, youll have some specific transportation options offered to you. These are available at an additional fee, but I find them to be so convenient. We always take the shuttle.

There are two options one leaving Orlando International Airport, and one leaving from the Walt Disney World resort hotels. Youll want to add these on your trip itinerary when you book, or later through DCL or the travel agent you booked with.

There are other options as well, including shuttles, private cars, Uber/Lyft, and cabs. Port Canaveral parking is also available. Its currently $17 per day, and youll park near your specific cruise terminal.

If you are hoping to get a rental car so you can continue to explore the area after your cruise, there are several options available. As always, I recommend booking in advance to make sure there is a car available when you need it.

Some of the worlds biggest cruise lines in recent weeks have finally begun announcing concrete plans to restart sailings out of U.S. ports.

MSC Cruises, for instance, on Monday said it would resume departures out of Miami on Aug. 2. The announcement came just hours after Carnival Cruise Line;said it would restart cruises out of Galveston, Texas, on July 3. Silversea, Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line, Princess Cruises and Holland America also have been revealing restart plans.

Still, even as they gear up for a U.S. restart, cruise lines are saying they only will operate a few ships out of U.S. ports at first. The plan at least for now is to bring additional ships into operation gradually over many months.

So, which cruise ships, specifically, will be restarting operations out of U.S. ports in the coming months and from which specific ports?

In the continuously updated guide below, we list every comeback cruise itinerary out of a U.S. port that has been announced so far for the summer months of June, July, August and September by a major, big-ship line, sorted first by home port and then line.

Carnival Cruise Terminal 3

Best Cruises Out of Port Canaveral 2021

In late-April 2017 at Port Canaveral started construction works of a new cruise terminal. The facility is on the site of “Cruise Terminal 3” , west of Jetty Park and east of The Cove . On June 7, 2017, engineering and design works for the new terminal were officially approved. Canaveral Port Authority Commissioners approved USD 1,2 million funding for CH2M Engineering’s project management contract. This was the first phase of the 2-year work plan to construct a modern facility with capacity to serve vessels up to 8,000 passengers. At the new passenger terminal can berth even the world’s largest cruise vessels of RCI’s Oasis-class. CH2M Engineering provided engineering, support services and waterside design for the new Terminal 3.

The project’s budget is USD 163 million , of which US$50M were contributed by Carnival Corporation. Ranked the USA’s largest single building project, it included demolition of port’s oldest terminal, construction of a brand new 2-story building , upgrading the existing berth and building a new parking garage, roadway and utility improvements. This 20-months long, multi-phased project included 5 separate contracts. Demolition works of the existing Terminal 3 building started in April 2018, at the cost of USD 210,000.

Construction works officially started on March 18, 2019, and the Terminal was completed in September 2020. At the new CT3 terminal was homeported Carnival’s largest vessel . The new liner is LNG-bunkered by a barge dockside.

Cdc Framework And Its Impact On The Resumption Of Cruises

With the new “Framework for Conditional Sailing,” cruise lines now have a much clearer path to getting back to sailing, though certainly not easy.

While the framework lays out a path, there are no actual dates specified within the process. There are, however, certain steps that the CDC says cruise lines must follow.;

The framework itself is a series of measures that cruise lines must take, falling into four categories:

  • Testing and protection of crew onboard cruise ships in U.S. waters
  • Simulated voyages with volunteer passengers to test new policies
  • Certification process through the CDC to be fit for sailing
  • Return of paid-passenger cruises in line with CDC protocols
  • Within each of these categories are multiple measures cruise lines must take in order to complete the framework. Once completed, then the cruise lines can apply for a “Conditional Sailing Certificate” to return to sailing.

For a full explanation of all the steps and their requirements, see our article here.

Recently, the CDC eased some rules for cruise lines if they sail fully vaccinated trips where 98% of crew and 95% of passengers have the shot. For instance, if a cruise ship sails a fully vaccinated trip, they can skip the simulated voyages, drastically cutting down the time needed to meet the CDC requirements.

Cruise Lines That Sail From Port Canaveral

The Port Canaveral Cruise Port has five main cruise terminals, with the new Terminal 3 scheduled to debut. This terminal is ready and waiting to process passengers sailing on the brand new Carnival Mardi Gras once cruising resumes.

When arriving at the Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal for your cruise, there will be large electronic signs directing passengers to the correct terminals.

For a general sense of the area, the port is divided into North and South sides. The North side, or A terminals, include terminals 5, 6, 8, and 10. The South side, or B terminals, include 1, 2, and 3.

Cruise Terminal 1 is the location for most Royal Caribbean cruise ships that sail from Port Canaveral. Currently, Royal Caribbean has plans for Allure of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas, Independence of the Seas, and to cruise from Port Canaveral.

Cruise Terminal 3 is the brand new cruise terminal set to process Carnival Mardi Gras passengers. This $163 million project includes a 188,000 square foot terminal and an adjacent garage accommodating 1,800 cars.

Cruise Terminals 5 and 6 also primarily service Carnival Cruise Line, as this brand usually has the most ships sailing out of Port Canaveral. Currently, Carnival plans to have Elation, Liberty, and Magic sailing from this cruise port.

This is of course in addition to the brand new Mardi Gras.

Currently, Disney Cruise Line is scheduled to sail Disney Dream and Fantasy from Port Canaveral.
